    Never knew that. I just go by the card I get at the bait shops. The one that has all the fish sizes and the crab sizes and the limits. It does get tough when it gets cold. Some cool places you go to, I enjoy the videos.

      Thanks! I guess I really shouldn't have used the word "season". I used it more to describe when you can catch them more then when you can keep them.

    Talking about a small world , we were watching this video and the second location you were at , i noticed that you were at a location we were fishing a few days ago . Then I realized we were there when you were . I was there with my kids and wife. White truck and silver explore north of your location you can see in this video . Lol, good luck on your fishing and crabbing journey. Great video !!!

    How about Lavallette for crabbing?

    Yeah the only weights I use since I do live on Staten Island and the currents always strong and moving I used 3 to 4 oz sinkers I'll be doing that this weekend including crabbing see if the blue crabs are around

      I don't have 4oz but 3 and 5 seemed to work. it was really straining my to though.

      That's what I was hoping for. I need heavier jig heads though. I only had small ones and couldn't cast very far. I even have scent I tried adding. it's hard to have everything for every situation, especially considering I've never been to either of these locations, but I do what I can.

    You should try Matt’s Landing in Heislerville wildlife management area NJ.
    Always had good luck there.

      I can try. you and @glenndavis6120 both suggested Matt's Landing. Have a particular spot in mind in Matt's Landing? Can post GPS coordinate if you can find it.

    Have you tried Reeds Beach, East pointer or Matts Landing? We used to crabbing these spots when I was a kid. They produced crabs into nov.

    I agree, I think there is no closed season for crabbing although like you said you probably won’t catch many when it gets too cold

    • @slingshotcrabbing
      @slingshotcrabbing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to the recreational anglers cheat sheet I got online it says "Delaware Bay Apr 6 - Dec 4 all other waters Mar 15 - Nov 30" so there is a season. I just choose Nov 1 because I just won't catch anything. Can you catch them? Certainly, but in all the years I've been crabbing I've barely caught anything between Oct and May. I've tried, just like I've tried night crabbing. They go dormant around 50 deg water temp and its almost there. I forget but I think the water was 55 deg at the first spot. It changes with the tide but it's just splitting hairs at that point. Technically the crabs have been unhappy since it dropped below 70 deg. Next Sunday it will be a lot colder. 46-59 deg air temp. I really doubt I'll catch anything, but I'll still try.

      Thanks Mike! Technically I caught 20+ fish if you count the minnows. Could never understand why people buy them. I had 3 in the trap in minutes. I used one of those to fish with and by the time I came back for another there was over a dozen in the trap.

      Always enjoy getting out and seeing different places. Really wish something would click with fishing. I actually do know a lot about fishing but it's all random basic things. I have no idea how to read the water and know what fish should be there and how to catch them.

    At least the fluke are still around I've been doing that all summer picking up fluke in my crab traps

    • @slingshotcrabbing
      @slingshotcrabbing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep. that was my first but I've seen people catch them all the time. It might have been out of season, I can't tell the difference between summer or winter flounder. Guess I should look it up considering if it was a winter flounder I could have kept it. They only need to be 12".

    Full moon last few days why the tide was up .. Past 2 years there's been an exploding amount of Blowfish which eat small crabs it's a naturally cycle .. When the blowfish aren't around as much crabbing is way better .. I'm retired now and seen crabbing go up n downs over the decades with those large amounts of blowfish .... good video .. MB ..

    P.s.
    Who told you there is a " crab season " meaning it closes after a certain date for recreational crabbing with collapsible traps? That's bad info & not true read the laws in the marine section of fish & wildlife booklet or online

    • @ItAintMeBabe99
      @ItAintMeBabe99 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You may be right. I checked the regulations and it said “no closed season” for recreational crabbing. Who knew ! Oh wait. . . . You did !

      @@ItAintMeBabe99 gota read the rules & regs🤣🤣 this hasn't changed in years along with crab size limits, if anything they should regulate commercial crabbers tighter

      I just googled it. "when does recreational crab season end in NJ?". "The recreational crab season in New Jersey ends on November 30 in all waters except Delaware Bay and its tributaries, where the season ends on December 4". I choose to end mine on Nov 1 because it's usually pretty pointless to crab in cold water, which is part of the reason why I've been taking measurements. Unless you get a crab dredge license you won't catch much, but by all means, go for it. Let me know when you post the video.

    • @wayned5872
      @wayned5872 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @slingshotcrabbing you need to read that further , tha t rule is for commercial style traps, not collapsible style recreational traps for which there is no start or end date

    • @slingshotcrabbing
      @slingshotcrabbing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wayned5872 You do you. The sheet I'm looking at right now says "2024 NJ Recreational Size Limits, Possession Limits and Seasons". It's the same sheet shown in my video titled Sunset Park - Harvey Cedars, NJ (40 minutes 58 seconds). It was posted at the fishing pier. These are the rules I choose to follow. If you want to follow other rules then I won't stop you. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying these are what I'm following, if I wasn't clear.

    Crabbing that area has been dead for a few years. Commercial guys saturate that area in the spring. Tons of rays in the summer problem finish what is left.
    You dont want to hold one spot when flounder fishing. Bait shoud be moving. Lighter tackle and cast into the current, jig it back.
