Kinda bummed at the haul but I still enjoyed myself and I try to stay optimistic. It was either turtles or mating season. They just weren't interested. It happens I guess. There's always next weekend!

Yup! Catfish like that stinky stuff too. I tried chicken livers one time when I was in Texas. I didn't have much luck. It's tough to work with. My mom got a huge roll of this sock stuff to put it in but it took too long to stuff it and tie it up so I just used worms. 😁

I was considering that. I think I started doing that because someone complained that they watched the video and I didn't catch anything. It was late winter so... Anyway, I do agree. I think I'll put the total only in the description. I really appreciate the feedback!

I guess they gotta do what they gotta do. Lol. I'll still be out there next Sunday, enjoying the fresh ocean air and the beautiful sights. When they've finished having their fun they can find my traps waiting for them. ☺

Yes. Incoming tide is best. I was there from outgoing tide to next outgoing tide. Water temp is 75 degrees, so I don’t think it’s too cold.

It was really strange. I usually catch a bunch of small ones no matter where I go. I think I only caught 6 between all 3 places after 13 hours of crabbing. I wonder if the turtles had something to do with it. That’s a LOT of turtles (terrapin).

Yep, not doing that again. There just isn't enough Fabreeze in the world and I just threw that cooler out. The smell will never come out of the vinyl.

Yea, I'm done with leaving chicken out. I felt like I was getting E-coli just looking at it. I'll check those places out on Google maps and see what I can find. Thanks!

I got a lapel mic. I'm just worried about the battery going dead on me. I'll need to make sure I test it often and carry spares.

The closest place I have tagged but I haven't had the chance to check out yet is 5th Ave. Bay Pier. Looks pretty clean. Has playground and benches. It's on the corner of 5th Ave and S. Bayview Ave. a little south of Seaside Heights in Seaside Park. Hope that helps and hope you and your grandson have a great time!

@@Brucie526 I actually marked a place in Avalon that I haven’t had the time to check out yet. 37th street dock. 5300 Ocean Dr, Avalon Nj 08202. Check it out. Looks small but might be a decent spot. They were some decent size crabs that day and I caught plenty for myself.

@@Brucie526 actually it’s closer to 3720 Ocean Drive. It’s hard to get an exact address for some of these places. Basically on the corner of Ocean Drive and 37th street. lol

@slingshotcrabbing The Mrs. and I went on a scouting trip last week to see any good spots. We 1st went to Absecon Creek boat ramp and it was green head heaven "so no thank you" lol... that 5300 Ocean drive was jammed packed with a roller hockey tournament. We picked 80th and 81st. It's a big parking lot with a city block wide bulkhead

@@Brucie526 If you happen to find a good spot let me know. I've always loved the Avalon and Stone Harbor areas. Green heads are always a challenge. Repel Max helps. Need something with a lot of Deet. Repel Max is 40% I think. The state animal of NJ should be the Green Head Fly, Lol!

They're pretty god traps, I like them. I got them at Amazon. Link is in the video description along with most of the stuff I use that I remember to put in there. I hop all around south jersey so maybe we will!

Just logistics. Last 2 places were far from my car and I needed to use the cart. Big trap would be the only thing in the cart. The weekend before that there was a 4 trap per person dock rule. I could have used it there but that would limit me to only getting to check 3 traps and checking the traps is the fun part. 😁 Next video will have the big trap again!

Where I was is defiantly Somers Point. I think they colloquially call it Higbee beach because the road to the parking lot is Higbee road. Not a hog ring, I need more of a tube. It's to join the two ends of the hoop together. I'd swear they used zinc on this one because all my other ones are fine.

My record Big Boy is still 6.25 inches. I think that will hold for some time. It did get a little crowded but everyone was nice. I started to compete for crabs and I had 10, which is more than enough for me. I'm the only one in my house that eats them. So I called it a day.

You'd be surprised how many people I meet crabbing who have never heard of crabs and spaghetti. I tell them you haven't lived until you've had it.

@@sharonb8714 Thanks for the encouragement! It really means a lot. There’s a lot more to learn when you start a channel than just camera angles and editing. You also need to not worry so much about your content. I still struggle thinking if anyone will like it or was it mostly just cringe. Your encouragement helps me to realize it’s fine, just do what you do.

@@slowburn_1725 I just wanted to label them for where I would like to go crabbing “Higbee Beach” for instance. That way when I plan my trip I can just look it up by crabbing locations rather than waterway names.

What a shame. First I was shocked then I was worried. I had just drove an hour and a half to get there, then realized the life guard wouldn’t be there for another 3 hours and I already had to use the bathroom. Relief set in when I found the unlocked one with the broken door that stayed open a few inches.

@@davemi3213 I try to review spots so new crabbers have choices. I hope you enjoy the videos and maybe even find some new places to try.

@@jameyrobinson2144 If that’s what ya gotta do. Is this like a hobby or something? Find obscure videos of minor violations and report them to fish and game? If and when they contact me I’ll just plead ignorance of all the rules, pay the fine and move on.

It's one of the few spots good for fishing and crabbing. People said they caught striper and flounder, but last week. It always seems to be last week, so your milage may vary.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep any eye out for the Battle IV. The 3 was a pretty good rod so I trust the 4 will be even better. I did register and carry images of all my docs on my phone. Even got the non commercial pot permit on my fishing license but haven't had many chances to use the pot lately. I have a few places I plan to try again later in the year and did get the season pass for Barnegat.

@slingshotcrabbing if u decidecon the battle 4 take a look at the dx model that's all metal frame & side plates if u want that durability but is limited in sizes starting at the 3000 or 4000

Exactly what I was thinking at the time but I don't like to assume anything. I'd rather loose 30 minutes of crabbing than piss off the dockmaster. That's her domain and she has the final say. If it makes any difference I purchased a season pass and now I can crab any time I want weather she is there or not. It was worth loosing 30 minutes of crabbing to me than loosing a lifetime of respect from the dockmaster I would need to deal with every time I visited that place, if she wasn't OK with me crabbing until she arrived. Either way no one was catching much. I blame the abnormally high boat traffic happening that day.

Thanks! I usually just drop a pin on apple or Google maps at the closest road or point of interest and use the address it gives me. It's all I have to go by at the time.

It is Mantaloking on the east side of the bay but is still considered part of Brick Township. Much higher tax bracket in the Mantaloking area for sure! Beach homes are in the multi millions!

When you can check out Australian cray fish. Those things are huge.

@@timconnelly6340 it’s a place called Turkey Point. Apple Maps said it was in Fortescue, so that’s what I went with. I think I put the GPS coordinates in the description, copy and paste them in chrome should pull it up.

It's just called Tides on iPhone. It's OK but I need to find one that allows me to rename my favorites. The names are based on the closest charts from your search and you can't rename them to associate them with your crabbing spot.

I've tried it. If you Google you'll find a lot that says crabs are nocturnal. That may be true but they certainly don't eat at night. I crabbed from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. and didn't catch anything until sunrise. Your best bet is just before sunrise at an early incoming tide. you'll catch the most crabs between just after low tide to just before low tide. In my experience they really like that high tide swing. The trick is to match that with where you want to go and the cool early sunrise temperatures. Good luck. I always seem to miss it because I only focus on places I want to go, high or low tide isn't part of the plan. I get one shot a week to make it work so it is what it is. 3 crabs or 30, that was my one shot to make a video. Lol

@slingshotcrabbing my years of crabbing( over20) I have my hotspots in Atlantic Cumberland & Salem counties, ive never thought to nite crab them

I was debating for a long time if I should do the selfie intro like everyone else seems to do then I decided to give it a try. I think it turned out ok. Not gonna lie, I really thought Windward Beach was gonna be a sure thing. Just goes to show that every place has bad days and there are no sure things in crabbing or fishing. Just enjoy the day, catching a lot of crabs is just a bonus. Also, I'm a huge fan. I need to shout out my favorite crabbing youtube channel. 😁

I went on Sunday. It was an awesome day and a really nice place. I know it’s a great spot for crabbing after watching thandastones. That is one of their favorite places and they always catch a lot there.

Yea. You learn to spot it easily after awhile. Like how those fishing videos they can tell what kind of fish it is before it’s even at the surface just by the way it’s fighting.

I had a great time. Windward is one of the more accommodating places to go. Some places have nothing, like the bridges near Atlantic City and Brigantine or even Turkey point. It had bathrooms, which is a huge plus in my book. If your a solo crabber like I am though you need a lot of faith in God or man to leave all your stuff behind while you abandon it to head off to the bathrooms that aren't exactly near where you are crabbing. Thank God I've never had a problem yet.

@@brianarrabito4459 Yep. I can get them out pretty far. The trick is to keep a slight resistance drag to the rope as it slips through your fingers. It makes the trap go out nice and flat with the top facing towards you.

While I was there another person got their line caught too but it came off luckily. Then another guy got yelled at because he threw his trap and almost hit a passing boat. Lol😂

@@mrbilky Next trip I’m going to another place I got from watching them. They are like crabbing masters. They almost always get a decent haul. They also are really good with hand lines. I tried it a long time ago and I just kept loosing the crabs. Thinking of trying hand lining again but need a new net, one that will fit in the challenger.

@@slingshotcrabbing We have too many Asians pouring into our country and taking all of our fish and crabs. Thats what they do in the South China Sea. They will eat anything from that water. Even a toadfish.

Not the complete recipe but it will work. Spaghetti and crabs FTW! Yep, was checking a trap like I was in the video when a guy watching me yelled about my pole and we both tried to grab it. Last I saw it was shooting through the water like a torpedo. The guy that was watching me even asked a jet skier leaving for the parade to look out for the boat, but I knew that was a huge long shot. Still, very nice of the guy to help. Every one I met there was very friendly.

The boats are in the channel, you’re casting into the channel, where are boats supposed to go? 🤷‍♀️

@@edwardjanowiak Yea, I don't blame the boats at all, like I posted in the video text. They are just following the buoys. I blame whoever decided to dredge the channel right along the pier.
