That. was. AWESOME. I have blindly fumbled around in AI for so long making it work but not really understanding and your tutorial was better than Adobe's! Sometimes you need a video that shows you exactly how to do something specific rather than learning EVERYTHING which gets overwhelming. Adobe's tutorials are great but so broad that it makes it hard to focus on one specific need. I can't wait to watch more of your videos. I'll check out your website and probably heading to Slack as well.
Thanks Kate!! I was trying to go just deep enough to cover 99% of the tasks that an ID would be expected to do in Illustrator 😃. Glad to hear that the content is helping!
This was really helpful. I was learning Adobe Illustrator but needed something more specific for e-learning materials, and this video was spot on. Thanks Devlin!
Thank you Dev for all your very beneficial input, are there any free substitute to Adobe Illustrator that can help in the ID field, if one can't afford it...
Thanks for watching! You could always use the free trial of illustrator to to create a few assets if it's for your portfolio, otherwise there's Krita, which has some similarities :D
Hi Priyanka! Thanks so much. I haven’t used Photoshop much as an eLearning developer, but for any tasks where it may be helpful, I’ll aim to create a video. I have one about how to make mock-up cover photos for your portfolio projects 😃
Hi, great video. Thanks! Is there any way to export the layers from Illustrator/Photoshop to Storyline? Sometimes I want to add triggers on layers of my project and saving all of them separately in png and later adding on Storyline seems frustrating to me :)
Hi, yes, you can export the entire artboard! But you would not be able to edit the individual elements within Storyline. It would be great if you could edit vector files in Storyline, but that's not an option yet.
Hi Anika! Good question. If you get comfortable with the tasks in this video, then you will be able to do 99% of illustrator tasks that IDs have to do. So this should be sufficient 😃
devlin. been following you for some time now. great inputs thanks. one question - how do i change the characters in the "scenarios" in Rise 360 to Indian characters. some of our Indian clients do not want white / latin characters
I am not sure what I am doing wrong but when I download from freepik I do not see any EPS files within the zip document. I only see JPG files and Encapsulated PostScript. Is it because I am using a free version?
Hi Devlin, thanks so much, this is a huge help for an Illustrator beginner like myself! One quick question if you would be comfortable sharing: what role do the vectors provided by Storyline assets (under icons) play in your workflow? I understand that they cannot be pulled out and edited in Illustrator (Storyline doesn't allow saving as a vector) but they can be edited within storyline. Does this mean that you sometimes use them when they work, or do you strictly use outside vectors because you prefer editing (potentially with more control?) in Illustrator? Thanks!
Hey Paul! Good question 😃. If you find an icon that you like in Storyline then go for it! Just keep in mind that if you add triggers around clicking icons then it will only work if you select the filled-in part. So a common workflow is to add a hotspot or transparent rectangle over the icon (and add the trigger to the overlay) to make it interactive
This is great Devlin! Quick q.. with regards to buttons do you create them outside storyline or create them in storyline? Do you use XD to develop screens?
Thanks! I often create them in Storyline, and yes, I usually use XD to do all of my visual prototyping. Once I land on the layouts that I like, then I bring things into Storyline.
@@DevlinPeckYT thanks. I used XD and it’s awesome for generating great visuals. My challenge is I find is the alignment grids and the text sizes do differ when going from xd to storyline. I think a video of that specific workflow would be so beneficial.
@@DevlinPeckYT oh! I watched just the initial part till vector graphics...I will watch entire video....thank you ☺️ your website and videos are very helpful

the character pack idea was awesome. thanks
Now to finally start on my visual mock-ups. I was procrastinating by study :)

What does "interfaced" mean? You can see that at 44:30, when you're exporting you can select transparency and interfaced for your png.
Hi Devlin, your videos are really very informative. Could you please make a video on photoshop skills for e-learning designers?

Hi Devlin. Do you think this tutorial is enough for beginners pivoting into ID or should it be supplemented with an intermediate course as well?

Hi Devlin, why don't you export this as a vector like EMF, WMF, SVG or something other than a PNG or JPG?
Hi Reina, Storyline doesn't play nicely with vector files.
