Sim's Country BBQ has been a local favorite since 1979, and features not only two types of BBQ and chicken, but also square dancing, clogging, and bluegrass music.
My high school class of 1973 actually had our 50th reunion there last year. It was a good time with old friends. They actually had the room to the right as you come in set up for us with tea and water set out for us.
I've been going there since soon after they opened. I always enjoy it. They have a variety of can drinks for $1. You really can't beat the price !! We was there about a month ago and will be there again soon. Thanks for the video.
I think its great that there is a place to go where people can still learn how to square dance! It takes me back to a simpler time. Im in Randolph County NC. If there's a place similar near here i dont know about it. My mom used to tell of square dances and corn huskings here. Love the music too! Thanks for sharing!😊
This is such an awesome restaurant. This is our kind of place. We love good bbq and chicken. The bluegrass music, square dancing, and clogging was so much fun. Would like to see more clogging like you mentioned. I LOVE how there is no alcohol served here. Wish more restaurants and places would have a no alcohol policy. The pancake looking thing was a corn fritter probably. David's grandmother used to fix them like that. That's a fine idea of videoing you two square dancing. Spin your partner- Do si Do! Nice video!
Thank you for watching. As close as this place is to our house, we're ashamed to say we hadn't been in about 20 years. We decided last night, it was time to change that. I don't know if you all have ever seen Zeb Ross, but if you enjoy clogging, he's the greatest clogger I've ever seen. We saw him at Darnell Farms in Bryson City on our first visit, and didn't know who he was. Next thing we know, he's all over the internet on stage with Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan, performing in front of thousands of people. We are planning to go see him do some clogging this summer, and I think the dates are sometime in July. Hopefully, we can bring a good video then.
I can't recall ever eating beef bbq before. I'll stick with pork bbq . Love bluegrass music and I've always wanted to learn to play the banjo. Neat place !
I think Zeb Ross and JCreekcloggers are going to be at Darnell Farms on May 19th for Strawberry Jam Fest! They are also going to be in Maggie Valley and Townsend before July as well.
Yes, the Maggie Valley date is the one we are looking at. We're not sure about being able to make it to Darnell Farms at that time in May. We'll just have to see. But you are correct, that he is going to be there for the Strawberry Jam Festival.
You may have just found my long lost kinfolk’s as my last name is Sims 😂. You never know, I’ll have to check this place out looks and sounds like my kinda place.
Hey I’ve been wanting to come to this place. My last name is Sims. I make a bbq sauce I bet yall would like. 👍🏻 Also I agree with you about them not allowing alcohol, it’s just better and like you said good family fun. I’m glad I saw your video , it’s a ride for us , we live off I-95.
I'm sure we would like it. Is it tomato-based, or vinegar-based? If you're off I-95, I guess it would be more eastern North Carolina style. Hope you get to visit it soon. Thanks for watching!
The corn pancakes are usually called “Hoe Cakes”. Farm workers would actually cook them on a hoe over an open fire. I’ve always liked them. Great video as usual!! Thanks!
Man that bluegrass music and clogging brings back some great memories from my childhood, brought a tear to my eye, looks like a good place to eat, dance and fish. But sadly no fishing. 😢 That pond looks awesome. Love me some good bluegrass music. Thanks for the video, enjoyed you message at Sunday School. Hope y’all have a blessed week.
Thank you so much for watching the video, and for commenting. Glad it brought back some fond memories for you. Also, thank you for watching Sunday School this morning.
I've been wanting to go there! I took clogging lessons there back in the day. Before they had the building, we learned clogging inside the restaurant on Saturday mornings!
Hey! If you go back to Siesta Key/Sarasota area, you have to check out Owen’s Fish Camp! We just went there a couple nights ago and it was amazing! I’d love to hear your take on it!
We go to that area every single summer. We are planning to go back in August. We've actually driven by and looked at it several times, but just have never gone in. It is something on our list to do at some point. Thank you for letting us know that it is good. I know it is right downtown, and I'm trying to remember the parking situation there. Do they have their own parking lot?
They do, but it’s small and the place fills up quickly. They open at 4 pm every day. We arrived around 4:15 pm and were lucky to find a parking place. They have additional parking across the street, but that parking is paid. We were told when we arrived at 4:15 that it’d be a 45 min wait for a table for 2. It was well worth the wait though! Love the videos! We were able to stop at some locations this past week that you guys stopped at in the Sarasota area! Siesta Key is beautiful! Appreciate you and your honest reviews!
@davidberry9753 We certainly appreciate you watching. Glad you found some of our recommendations helpful. We have thought about going to Owens for a couple of years now, but we might try to make that happen this August. I would want to be able to get a parking space, though. Will probably have to show up early.
Looks Good.. I don’t think I could handle the constant LOUD music tho.. this was the first video I had a hard time getting through.. It’s terribly loud. Nothing you guys can help but it’s just loudly obnoxious.. (I suffer from migraines)
I'm sorry about the migraines. I know that must be uncomfortable. We actually have microphones, which tend to muffle the background music. But we actually decided against using them this time, even though we knew it would be loud, because we wanted to feature the music and the band that would be playing that night. You are correct, that parts of it were loud and hard to hear. We just felt that using the microphones, would kind of drown out our muffle what are the features of the place that we wanted to show. We knew that a lot of our listeners would enjoy the Bluegrass music, and we just wanted them to be able to hear it.
I've had beef bbq before, and actually liked it. But this beef bbq just tasted a little different, and I really don't know how to describe it. It had a very strong taste to it. I prefer the pork here, but that may not be the case in other places. I actually like beef bbq.
So our plastic water bottles everything that we buy at the store like mustard, ketchup there’s a lot of things that are still in plastic pop bottles even milk cartons milk is in plastic too, so it’s all a government control. I thought it was a very nice that they had plastic in that they could just throw them away instead of having to do dishes.
I'm guessing that they might find it cheaper than hiring a dishwasher. We don't make their policy for them, and I don't know their reasoning, and we didn't mind it. It really has nothing to do with the quality of the food whatsoever. The food tastes the same, no matter what kind of plate it's on. Thank you for watching. Have a blessed evening.
Fun to watch. Thank you friends 😊 God bless
Thanks for watching!

Wow! That's really nice. I'm sure it was nice to see your former schoolmates after all of those years. That sounds like a lot of fun.
@@NCMemoryMakers it really was. The ones that can still get together every couple of months.
Loved this place!!! It is our family-friendly kind of place. Next time I will be bringing my clogging shoes. Loved the vlog!!!

Putting bluegrass and barbecue together does and a like a good idea. Enjoyed your video!

Yeah, the pork was far better.
This place looked really cool! I will be in this area Mid-May, but will be in Virginia on Friday. Maybe next time! Great job on the video.

Never know. It certainly would be worth looking into. The guy who founded it, was named Keith Sims.
We’ve been eating there for a long time. One of my favorite places.
Nice. So, you must be local to this area?

Love the video and would like to visit now! The cakes were “hoecakes”. My grandma made them all the time!!
Thanks for the information about the cakes. Somebody else said the same thing. We weren't aware of what they were called. We appreciate it.
Great place. Have not been in a while. Thanks for sharing. God bless and safe travels.
You are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
I believe.
That it's called hot water corn bread. And goes with barbecue
Some other commenters also referred to them as "hoe cakes". Said they used to actually be cooked on a hoe. I wasn't sure what they were, to be honest.
That is a scale they had in county store's back in the fifty's they weigh meats on it every thing looks good music sounds good enjoy God bless you all

I don’t like the vinegar sauce either but my husband does…
People have different tastes, I guess. I have always liked tomato-based sauce better.
Yall try to smoke pit in salisbury
@dannypatterson3791 I'm sorry, but I do not understand the comment. You want us to try to smoke pit in Salisbury?
What do you mean by 'to smoke pit"?
I think after my trying to look on Google, you mean there's a place in Salisbury, called "The Smoke Pit"?
We call them ho cake corn bread in Kentucky not pancakes
I wasn't sure what they were at first.

Tomato-based?
It’s not Lexington style either. It’s an over 100yr old recipe that I’ve added to make it my own.
@b.l.secret2400 Well, I'd love to try it.

They shouldnt be using plastic forks and styro plates. They have to keep buying them and its bad for the environment. It cheapens the food.
