Thank you for this video and the detail. First time rebuilding a saw. Wouldn’t have been able to do this without your help. Saved me $400 or more on buying a new saw. Thank you!
These videos are amazing! I bought a rebuild kit but didn't really know what I was doing. I followed your step by step instructions and my Rancher 55 runs like brand new now! BTW, it seems like the best tutorial videos on just about any subject always come from Canada. Thank you from your neighbor to the South.
Great tutorial Donyboy. I've got a 55 and i'm considering putting a piston and ring. It's amazing how much wood it's cut. It's 17 yrs old and still going strong. Thanks very much for sharing your expertise. Great channel.
Thanks for the series on this engine rebuild, it was a great help! I just rebuilt a Poulan 2150 LE predator, I replaced the piston and rings but instead of replacing the cylinder I bore out the cylinder with a break cylinder bore. I followed your sequence of taking apart and putting the saw back together. The saw started right up. Thanks for the post and keep them coming!
As far as HOW TO instruction videos or tutorials are concerned on ANY subject I think I have never encountered anything as good as what you have presented here. Congratulations on a job extremely well done.
Used this set of videos to rebuild an old 51 and the process was very simple using the videos. Good attention to detail and shown on camera very well. I used an NWP brand piston kit from Bailey's online and have probably 10 tanks of gas on it and it has been fine so far.
I have found the outcome from vid 1&2! All three are excellent quality sound and video! Someone said they are therapeutic and I agree! Could watch em over and over! Thank you!!!
Donyboy73 Is the real deal. What a great video. As a DIY'er its videos like this that get the job done. Well done Sir, and thank you for saving me a trip to the stuck up local saw shop.
Hi Don. Thanks for a very good instructional vid. I put in a new chinese carb and cylinder set and it ran perfectly. Now I just need to fix the oilpump to the chain which is leaking. Keep up the good work!
Very well assembled !!!! I was however, taught to run whatever I assemble as a motor first but that was with power tools,I do that with lawn equipment as well, when working in a business I had to do it that because it saves time pulling all that stuff off if a carby was plugged up with crap or something. When I did up a Stihl hedge trimmer, I fit the cutting blade last after testing it as a motor, the compression was 105 PSI with the new cylinder kit installed & 124 PSI when run in. That's because the cylinder & rings aren't perfectly round until the rings have bedded into the cylinder.
Thanks for the videos. I got my dead husq 435 running again with a new piston and cylinder kit. Your videos gave me a good idea of what to expect. If your in my neck of the woods, I'll buy the first round of maple syrup shots.
Your videos are so helpful! Thank you so much for the clean, clear, simple videos. It takes an intelligent person to make complicated things so simple! Thanks a whole bunch!
hey buddy thanks for the vid.probly the best video ive ever viewed on youtube.strait to the point.clear instructions step by step.im rebuilding a husky 51 & ordered the chinese piston & ring kit & you helped answer every question in my head.good job.thank you.
Nice one Dony. It will be interesting to see how your friend gets on with the saw when it does a bit of work. Most 2 strokes ive come across die early because of poor fuel mix as opposed to generally wearing out. Looking forward to the next one.....
Really nice series of three videos, very well presented. I've got a Husky 51 I've had part way down but it was interesting to see the cylinder/piston R&R. Thanks for making such a clean video.
Great work and great series of videos. Rebuilding my ‘98 55 and just looking to see if it’s as straight forward as I expect… seems it will be. After all these years of 10 cords/yr, the top end finally gave out. It’s a great saw. Awful sad Husqvarna stopped making them. Probably their best homeowner size saw ever.
You're an excellent teacher donyboy...your videos are great and easy to understand. Thank you and keep up the good work. I feel confident I could perform a repair as long as I follow your instructions.
I had no idea Husqvarna equipment were common overseas. That's cool to know! :) By the way, pronouce the "Q" like a K, and you'll be spot on with the name. "Huskvarna". :)
I have been watching your videos for a long time and must say you really know how to teach, Your video quality is great your pitch and pace is perfect. I have a rancher 55 that I needed some direction after I started to put it together. Which way the arrow was oriented to the saw. Thanks and by all means keep it up.
HI Don, I'm about to tackle refurbishing a 51 Husqvarna because it's difficult to start. I read many of the comments from subscribers and that all are spot on. Thanks for sharing your expertise and time! I'm wondering if you have a video that addresses possible carburetor issues.
Thank you so much for your informative videos. You have helped me out numerous times! When I wasn't sure of something I always turn to your videos...awesome job.
Great work on the video, very helpful, informative, and comprehensible. I am currently opening up my STIHL saw. Hoping that only piston and rings are gone and not anything in the crank case. ...........I will try my hand and documenting the project, and will let all you guys and gals how the project goes. >Thanks again Dony
i have a husqvarna 55 and its broken, i took to the shop and they say it can't be fixed. i was thinking to take it to someone to rebuild it but now im so excited to try it for myself, when i started to watch the first part, i thought was so hard to put it together again, but its so easy to follow you step by step even my english is not to good. gracias Dany.
Dony, I'm just getting started in this field, and after finding your site I have learned a great deal of information. The videos you do are AWESOME!!!! I enjoy the way you explain things please keep up the good work. Mike
Sounds very strong. Great Job i really enjoy these rebuild videos, btw you should rename the video Engine Rebuild On Husqvarna 55/51 Chainsaw. because I think that they have the same crankcase and one is 2 ccs bigger
Hi there, I've just rebuilt my 55 thanks to your video and it's awesome. Thanks sooooo much for the idiot proof instructions ! My friend has a 51 that's broken, similar problem but also I think the crank bearings may be a little wobbly. Can u do a video showing how to get at the crank bearings please. Cheers. Al
the best repair woulb be to get a new carb, or try adjusting the butterfly inside and sand down the mark inside the carb with emery paper. remember to use loctite or get a new screw for the butterfly
Don, You said you have never had a cylinder that would leak. Me either, but there is a first time for everything. My Echo CS-670. I've had it together at least three times with the new cylinder on there and got bubbles around the cylinder base bolt on the flywheel side rear. I've got it to seal with red threadlock on that bolt, but that's just wrong. There is no visible reason for this. Email me with your thoughts if you want. I am going to reassemble it another time with the bolt head spacer contact surfaces in mind. we'll see. Great work you do Don. Thanks for all the time and effort.
very rarely but yes there could be crud in there, in all my years of experience i've rarely had a problem when not taking them off, but it is recommended to take them off, i will make a revised video
Great series on Husqvarna 55 rebuild. Do you have a video of throttle lockout and trigger (spring) replacement on a 55 Rancher (2003 model). I have been unable to find one specific to a Rancher 55. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a Rancher 50 1989 model and am going to put a new Chinese cylinder kit in it now. An old hand me down from when Dad bought it for the farm. I've noticed the aftermarket piston needle bearing seems to have a bit looser tolerance than the old genuine one, considering using the old one which seems fine? I can't get the original 44mm cylinder for this saw, had to get the next size up 45mm which is a straight fit in and the original cylinder doesn't have a decompression port but this new one does. So the seller is sending me a plug to screw into the side of the cylinder so it's not an issue. So much you can't get for this saw now. I'm missing the plastic flywheel cover that got smashed when the starter spring decided to come loose while at full noise smashing all the plastic everywhere. I hope the saw doesn't overheat because of it because you can't get that part anywhere. Many thanks for the video Donyboy, takes a lot of guess work out of the equation. Cheers!

I have a 350 with a stripped head for the muffler bolts thread. I just got a free 55 and 41 for free, the 41 needs throttle trigger and operator presence switch kit parts on order. Very excited about my two free saws. Great videos dony, great info in cause i need to rebuild. I do have a Briggs and Stratton 16hp opposed twin cylinder 402417 0676 01 that i think have completely worn out compression rings, do you have any suggestions about a rebuild kit for these engines? I cant find one anywhere. If anything could i just install new rings?
I am currently rebuilding my stihl ms660 with a new big bore kit when I go to start it for the first time should I adjust the carb settings or leave them at the stock settings
thanks for the video, I have just finished installing new piston & rings & cylinder on my BlueMax chainsaw. When I tried to start it up, I noticed it make loud metallic clank sounds when I pulled the starter. It did start, but only briefly. I called it quits for the day, and am hoping to get it running tomorrow. As in your video, I made certain the piston moved smoothly by turning the flywheel before re- assembling the saw, but I used 3 in 1 oil to lube it, as it was handy. Any ideas on the clanks? Or what should my next steps be? I appreciate your help, I'd not know what to do with my chainsaw otherwise. -Peter
I have a 55 husky and on the chain side of the saw there is a case with two screws ;close to the trigger. Can you tell me what this is for? always look forward to your vids!!
