(thoughts on sword relative to $400 price)
    The good:
    Flat planes
    Very sharp edge
    Tight ito
    Easy to dissasemble
    Well made Mikugi
    Excellent nakago
Distal taper through the blade and nakago (missed mentioning that in the review)
    Well made habaki
    No saya rattle
    The bad:
Little paint overspray on the kurikata (missed mentioning that in the review)
The yakote is not crisp (though it is nice that it even has an attempt at one)
    Slight ledge on the fuchi
    Other notes:
The fittings look like copies from some sold at Yamato. Assuming they are clear to resell them, they look pretty nice. Not original but still very nice.
This blade has what looks like koshi sori. The blade is closer to a cross between koshi and tori but the shape of the tsuka push it to koshi (imo). It was not a problem to move and I liked it.
I could not get a swishing sound while doing iaido, maybe it is just me.. Probably, but know it is a quiet one.

I don't remember whether I was the one who asked you about Huawei, but I've been eyeing these for a while and am very happy you reviewed this. I'm quite excited how good it looks. I think your review seems really fair as well. I can spot some imperfections in the shapes etc., but you mention them.
16:30 The point you make here about the attention put into the nakago suggesting they put an equal or more amount of attention into other stuff is one of the reasons I like looking at the mine of the kissaki. They can easily get away with providing a bad nakago or nontraditional sugata, so when they do it well, it really tells you about their skill, knowledge, and effort.
    As usual, great video. 10/10.

I truly love watching your videos. You claim in many of your videos that you are not an expert, however your knowledge of and experience with so many brands and models of katanas and your ability to explain what you are looking at, and looking for, in a quality build, puts you in the "expert" category for me. This model is the second katana I've purchased based on your detailed discussion and thorough review of both the good qualities and not so good qualities of this katana. I've especially enjoyed your "drunken" reviews. They are both informative and entertaining! Keep up the great work!

I've been a fan of your videos for a while, they have helped me a lot in my initial purchases. I recommend the Dragon King "War Horse", despite the cheesie name, it is a piece that has gone unnoticed but is even better in performance than the Fletching Katana (got them both) which from that line is the one with better online reviews. I think that the War Horse Katana can be a "hidden gem" In the 400-500 usd price range, It's shorter than the Fletching, better cutter, faster and the geometry of the blade is better (pictures online are pretty bad for what It really si).

I have not worked with Hauwei directly so it is hard to compare the two in terms of service. In fairness I did not really work with SoN either, they sent me a sample and I would guess my experience is different than most. Personally I did not think there was anything from a product perspective that was overly compelling from an SoN perspective. They were good, don't get me wrong but nothing stood out. The service and customization options were really what did the job from an SoN perspective. That might not sound like much but it really means a lot. Most people in the US have pretty lofty expectations for service and fining a company that meats them more times than not is impressive. Hauwei is different, they seem to have a number of complaints about service but the product may be worth the struggle to get if you value the things they do well.

I only tell you that because, out of all review videos,.. your stuff feels honest, and organic.
You have a good disposition sir.
However.. it has become more of a frustrating experience while drinking coffee and making breakfast, to have to stop, and run run for the phone to skip up p another midrole advertisement.
I tried to ignore it. But, its bad.
Is there anyway, you could monetize 8n a way that dosen't have 12 midroles in a 15 minute video? I really want to keep watching you, and not stomp around the kitchen cursind a 30 minute shampoo commercial

    • @Matthew_Jensen
      @Matthew_Jensen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have not really looked at the monetization section and I usually just leave it on whatever default happens to be. I did not know it was so irritating. Do you have any idea what options to check?

@@Matthew_Jensen thank you for responding. I do not now how to change monetization, unfortunately. I'm subscribed to a TH-camr that was able to tho.

No, to my knowledge it's owned by a single person called Jacky. I don't know why he chose the name. Maybe the name "huawei" comes from some term or region in China, or something.

This one happens to have a traditional style of blade that lacks a bo-hi (what causes the swish sound). There are pros and cons to having a bo-hi or not. If you want a bo-hi, they have plenty in this price range with one.
