Thanks to the video, Fr Mike! Now it is clear, why we need to know the root of our Salvation. Jesus was born from imperfect family root. He is God and he chooses to be a part of our imperfection, and weaknesses to bring salvation to us. Wow! What an amazing revelation!!

    Amen to that Fr Mike, it's so true that our lives sometimes are so broken, at one point I almost couldn't get out of it until I found your videos and testimonies of some young priests whose life stories touched my heart; in the midst of our brokenness God uses it to bring out the good as you said, this is such a heartwarming reminder that God chose a crooked family tree to be Jesus' family line because of His grace and love. Looking forward to more video sermons from you. God bless you Fr Mike! :)

    It becomes even more mind blowing when you connect the nephelim bloodline corruption and how God had to preserve that family bloodline in order to get to Mary! People were chosen not necessarily because the were good or perfect but because the remained as he created them physically.

    This is literally the reason my father wouldn't read the bible. He kept complaining saying it was just "begat, begat, begat..." so I bought him one that had more an explanation written in it that discussed WHY it said those things and he's almost finished the new testament. Only took him 70 years to get to this point, but hey, I'm trying. Lol! I think I'll show him this video, he might enjoy knowing even more of what all the "begats" mean. Great video!

      CaliforniaKickZ start attending your local Catholic parish, and talk with the priest about getting into the classes. I'm not sure if they'll enroll you in the children's classes or in the adult classes. Your local parish may also have video series in their library that you can watch and take notes on. Symbolon ids a really good one, and many Catholic churches around the country use it for their adult classes for those interested in joining the Church, and for those interested in continuing to learn about their Catholic faith.

    The genealogies in the Bible are hugely important. They give a sense of scale and prevent the Bible being reduced to a body of timeless sayings, because they give the Bible anchorage in time and space. They also provide continuity - by taking the genealogy of Jesus back to Adam, St Luke takes the preparation for the Incarnation back to the beginning of the human race, and provides a commentary on the genealogies in Genesis 5 and 1 Chronicles 1, that begin from Adam.
    IOW, the NT genealogies, like the rest of the Gospel, are of great theological value, and not just because they reveal the continuity of the Gospel with the OT. The universality of St `Luke’s genealogy, and the tracing of Jesus’s descent back to Abraham by St Matthew, together take up themes in Genesis. on the universality of God’s dealings with mankind (Genesis 1-11), and the promise of a son to Abraham (Genesis 12 onward).
    The truth of the Bible is theological and Christ-centred - endless fussing about whether there were polar bears and bobcats in the Ark, and other Fundamentalist stuff, merely obscures this. The Fundamentalist obsession with historical accuracy takes attention away from the purpose of Scripture, which is with theology and meaning, not with trivia about exactly how many people died in plagues.

      James Cameron: I agree. The genealogists on our Lady's side and the one one St Joseph's side (Joseph being his step father) prove who Jesus is in his humanity. My favourite genealogy is in John and it gives me goosebumps "In the beginning was the Word" reflecting back to Generis showing Jesus is God, Jesus' divine genealogy.

I still talk to him, and he has never let me down. He is always with us if we like it or not. GOD is still helping me with my own demons. Just trust in him, that is all a person needs to do. You might wonder, what does Mary have in common with the four other women in this genealogy? I think it is that all of them risked their lives and reputations to do what they believed was right, even though they appeared sinful in the eyes of men (whether they actually sinned or not). It’s interesting that these are mentioned, and not the ‘good’ matriarchs like Sara, Rebecca, Rachel and Lea, etc.

    Travel with me to Revelation 2 and 3. Jesus gave a revelation to John about 7 churches. There were more than 7 churches that existed at this time, but he specifically gave a revelation to these churches. In this letter he gives them a compliment for what they are doing right, criticisms for what they are doing wrong, and suggestions for how to improve. Basically like a report card for the church. What's mind blowing, is that these letters are prophetic. The exact same struggles each of these churches had are the exact same struggles the church has had since Jesus resurrection until his second coming. The church of Ephesus represents the first church. The church from 30ad to around 70 ad. They had folks who tried to introduce false doctrine, but they didn't tolerate it. They were on fire for God, but they were losing sight of their first love. The second church was Smyrna. Smyrna is where we get the word MYRRH. The word MYRRH means suffering or death. This church was persecuted heavily under the 10 Roman Empires from 70ad to 300 ad. The next church was Pergamus. This is a compound word meaning PER- Mixed or objectionable and GAMUS meaning Marriage. It's where we get the words polyGAMY and monoGAMY. Anyway, this was the mixed marriage church. It's when paganism and Christianity mixed under the leadership of Constantine. Constantine converted pagan temples to Christian churches, Pagan priest to Christian priest, Pagan Celebrations to Christian celebrations. It's where we get the traditions of Easter, Christmas, etc. It's where SUNDAY comes from. Pagans worshiped their false God's on Sunday, but Christians worshiped on Saturday. Constantine merged the two and called in SUNDAY in honor of the SUN GOD. .... All this is historical and Biblical. Visit romancatholicism.com - Roman Catholicism history, doctrine, etc. for more info.

    • @Fabio99459
      @Fabio99459 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Mary was also the descendant of David.

    • @jamesb.8940
      @jamesb.8940 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mary is the mother of Jesus by bodily descent - which is what St Luke is concerned with,.
      St Joseph, a descendant of King David, is the adoptive and legal father of Jesus, son of David, the new and greater Solomon, the King of Israel - which is what St Matthew is concerned with.
      Both evangelists trace the descent of Jesus through St Joseph, but for different reasons: St Matthew, in order to emphasise that Jesus is the rightful inheritor of David’s Kingship, and St Luke, in order to emphasise the universality of Christ. Both Evangelists show thereby that Jesus is the Son of Man and the Messiah, who is is to rule all “tribes and nations and peoples and tongues” (Daniel 7.10-14; compare Rev 5.5) and that His Kingdom is to last forever (Daniel 4).
      Both Evangelists are drawing on Psalm 72, but from different parts of it. For St Luke, Jesus is the Universal King who savee the poor and defenceless; for St Matthew, He is the Messiah-King descended from David, Whose Kingdom shall endure for ever, and to Whom the kings of the remotest lands shall pay homage (as we see them doing in St Matthew 2).
      All the Gospels, with the possible exception of St Mark, emphasise the Kingship of Jesus, in different ways. Tracing His descent is one way, as St Matthew does. Emphasisng the universality of His commitment to the outcast and defenceless, is another. Emphasising His Divine origin, is another.
      He is not a mere earthly king, but the King sent by God to bring in the New Age of God’s Kingship/Kingdom/Reign of Righteousness and Peace (Psalm 72 again), which is to bring an end to all earthly kingdoms and powers, and to last forever. The Church is the seed of this Kingdom; that is one of the reasons the Church of Christ is, and must be, universal.

    But isn't this actually the genealogy of Joseph? Mary conceived of Jesus via the Holy Spirit, not by Joseph. Joseph was actually Jesus' step-father! Sorry but I guess I don't exactly get it.....But I do like Father Mike's expanding on the reading (and most priest's skip reading the entire genealogy, partly I suspect because of the difficulty of pronouncing many of the names!)

  • @francovillegaschirinos5335
    @francovillegaschirinos5335 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't understand why focus in Joseph's family, when he is not the biological father of Jesus. Why not focusing in Mary's side of the family, who are her ancestors? I can see that Jesus was raised within the family of Joseph, and He is a son of Joseph in the sense that Joseph took care of him and raised him, and he married Jesus' mother. But why is it important who are the ancestors of Joseph when there is no blood connection with him? Whereas there is a undeniable blood connection with Mary.

    • @jamesb.8940
      @jamesb.8940 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Because St Joseph is the legal father of Christ, and therefore, the father whose descent from King David ensured the Davidic descent of Jesus, so that Jesus can be seen to be the son of David “greater than Solomon”, the son Who is the King described in Psalm 72. That St Joseph did not beget Christ, but is His father by a legal fiction, that of adoption, does not make St Joseph any less truly His father, in Jewish law. Fatherhood did not have to be biological, in order to be real. The Gospels take that thought further: the family Jesus acknowledges, is defined by its character, of “do[ing] the Will of [His] Father in Heaven”; just as those who withstand Him, and seek to kill Him, “are of [their] father the devil”. It is very telling that St Matthew calls St Joseph “a just man” -in the light of the rest of this Gospel, that is astronomically high praise of St Joseph, for it marks him out as being of a character that equipped him to be the adoptive father of Christ. He did not beget Christ, but he was chosen to do for Him everything else that an earthly father could.
      His legal descent from David by virtue of His adoption by St Joseph ensures the reality of His Davidic descent, and His Identity as Son of David. His birth from Mary has the same result, because she was betrothed to be the wife of St Joseph. This means that His Heavenly Origin as “the Son of the Father” & “the Word of God” is in no way the result of human desire or action; Mary is the mother who conceived and bore Him, but she does so by the gracious, unasked-for, initiative of God. Her being chosen to be His mother, is a sheer hift of God, with no basis in human descent, human willing, or human desire.
      That St Joseph was the adoptive father of Jesus, both ensures the Davidic descent of Jesus, and, emphasises that ties of blood are far less important for being related to Jesus than likeness in character to Jesus. There is a constant tension in the Gospels, a very fruitful one, between these two ways of being related to Him. And this tension persists: it is very important to belong to His Body, the Church, for He has made it important; but it is no less important to have His Character and do His Works, which one can do through the Grace of His Holy Spirit, even if one is outside His Church.

      Thank you for the answer. I understand the part of Joseph been the father of Jesus by the law, and that a person don´t need to be the biological progenitor to be considered a father. I will look into the rest. Thank you for your time very much.

      Tupac Amaru He is father by covenant. Covenants were family bonds that by virtue of exchange of life, one becomes equal to a blood relative. Contract is different, if you screw up a contract, you lose money, if in the ancient world, you screw aound with a Covenant, you can lose your life.

    ..I (not these guys) just finished two "Netflix" series that were (somewhat) biblically based ....similar to this discussion..oh...my..goodness (spoiler...very adult)...that said...the "tangled webs" are, as my mom would say, "as old as Methusa"......if only this "stuff" could be crammed into the "teenage brain" so that we could avoid these pitfalls...oh, how much easier life could be! God's timing...not ours...#HappyHolidays!

    Personally, the genealogy through Joseph is not my favorite. Joseph was not the father of Jesus; he was the step-dad. I would like to see the genealogy through the Blessed Virgin Mary.

    Ask any Jew why they reject Jesus.. the first reason is that God did NOT have a son, that is a pagan blasphemy borrowed from Apollo being the son of Zeus and a mortal woman, second reason is that Jesus didn't tick any of the boxes for being the prophesied Messiah..and thirdly..and this is in your own Catholic D-R Bible, Psalm 95:5, All the Gods of the Gentiles are Devils..

    Christmas date is not the exact birth date of Lord Jesus it is just the random number that Vatican came up with.👍

      INFINITY & BEYOND The Vatican didn't exist in the second century, which is where we find evidence that the Church was celebrating Christmas on December 25.
