I can’t even imagine how long this took. Firs you gotta hire a band for the background music, singers for backing vocals, a producer to mix the song, a camera and lighting crew, lets not forget about all of the actors, locations and sound stages, and wardrobe for the actors, just so much stuff I can’t even wrap my head around it. I know this is common for films and tv, but seeing where Jon started, it’s really cool to see. Big props to everyone, so proud of Jon, seeing how far he’s come, etc.
The golden times of youtube are (probably) over. But this guy was one of the big great ones who made the platform so fcking great. It was people doing this for fun and not for the money. He hasnt even placed ads before the videos ❤
This is a really great song. But I wonder how many people took the time to really give it an introspective. The video reflects the song, which is summed up by the final lines; about how the music industry is dying, but commercialism only grows stronger day by day. But the "character" singing the song mentions about how he needs money and lost his house. So it's also a statement about the economy. He's pleading with corporations to use the song for any sort of ad campaign. So there is a necessity for cash. Let's put a pin in that and save it for a moment. Throughout the video, as the various company mascots begin to form a dance party around the band, we see more of the "Suicidal Hotline" guy. At first glance, it would seem a little out of place. Sure, one could argue late night television tends to show those sorts of commercials, but all of the other campaigns are common and happy-go-lucky. So bringing back the pinned concept from before, the "Suicidal Hotline" guy represents, I think, the "singer's" (obviously not Jon Lajoie, but the character he's portraying in the song's), depression and desperation. The idea is "If I can't make the money, if I don't make it. I might as well kill myself." I'm not asking anyone to support that notion or agree with it, but it's very clear that's what the 'character' is feeling. But even if one were to put all of their figurative eggs in one figurative basket, and end it all if things don't work out, the world will keep spinning. Life goes on with or without you. And the companies that you're begging to support you or even just pay attention, will likely just use your death to make themselves even more money. And that's why after the guy shoots himself, you've got "Flo" standing over his corpse selling life insurance. Despite this being intended as a comedy track, I feel like there's enough irony and poignant commentary to make this a legitimate criticism of the music industry, commercialism, and Hollywood. I mean there's a whole wealth of concepts I have not even touched on such as the chords and drum beats used to play the song. This song is absolutely genius. As another commentator said below, I can not even fathom how there are any dislikes to this song. The only valid reasoning would be if people saw through the upbeat tempo and saw the hopelessness and pointlessness of a life in the industry. Viewers should remember that Likes and Dislikes are for quality and concept, not simply how it made you feel emotionally. Bravo, Jon. Bravo.
While it's a great song, the fact that this song was released on TH-cam shows that the industry has changed. The internet basically gave everyone access to pick and choose what they wanted, and you know what? People want that ability more than anything else. So from napster grew Spotify and Pandora, and while those companies pay they artists, they pay them millionths or thousandths of a cent per play, again, set by the new market. People know they can still get it for free but, hey, I'll pay out of a little guilt I feel for basically stealing so here's some money and now everyone is happy, supposedly.Beyond that, most of the money comes from ads, and given the actual success rates of online ads, it's not surprising that the advertising doesn't pay as much per play as they used to. People still buy CD's and Vinyl is making a resurgence, but it's too late. Most of the record stores (except for a few niche, popular ones) disappeared, and ticket sales will always be good, if the band is good. Now. That all being said, in order for an industry to be 'dying' it has to actually be failing, and it's not. It could easily be argued that the music industry exploded with the advent of TH-cam and MySpace, but we are talking about local bands, and independents thriving, not necessarily big name labels (though most do through their stars anyway). What's happening is that some artists are getting paid less, and really, that's ok. Because overall music is growing and open to more of an audience than ever before as well. Edit: One last note. Merch sales can now be totally done by the band independently if they need/want, and take the middleman producer out - providing more funds to the band.
While I agree with you on some points, the music industry is not dying. It is changing. Instead of CDs and Records it's now mp3's. Just how the media is not dying it is just changing, from TV to Internet.

Actually, NOFX did this theme first with "Please play this song on the radio". But that song WAS tongue-in-cheek.. not to say NOFX didn't sell out too in the end. I think Jon Lajoie has been a great comedy mind/talent for quite some time now!!! I guarantee you that this song will be used within the next year by some major corporation trying to tell you they are better than the other peoples out there because 'They Care about the Consumer". Also, his house isn't in foreclosure people... he made a ton of money on selling his Math Equations... ;-)
Absolute best and most brilliant line: The music industry's dying, But consumerism is thriving. I weep for our future, but at least Mr. Lajoie brings some laughs to cut the pain.

i would like to thank you john for being in my teenage years really helped out with focusing on something different than depression, forever the best and ahead of his time!
I was starting to think Jon Lajoie had sold out... How could I be more wrong? The amount of subtle messages in the song! Why haven't you released more videos this year. Sincerely, you're awesome!
The irony of the song is that this video looks like it has pretty good production value. Must have cost a lot of money. GEE JON, MAYBE THAT'S WHY YOU'RE LOSING YOUR HOUSE?!
what would be really dope is if a company actually used the chorus in their commercial and changed the words to "We used this song in our commercial, We used this song in our commercial. They gave me money, and are using it to sell something. We used this song in our commercial"
I'm disappointed at how many people are belittling this gentleman in their comments like he is not supposed to be this talented unless he is Robert DeNiro or somebody super famous. WTF? He is clearly professional in what he does. Stop downplaying people, and acting so surprised at what they do. It reeks of jealousy and a lack of respect. Jon Lajoie is excellent and has great videos. End of story.
This is seriously one of the best and cleverest videos on TH-cam, from the song (which is pretty good and enjoyable even without having awareness of the message) to the realization of the video ("your brand here" - brilliant!). Amazing!

Jon made a video? YAY!
The videography in this, and the props were spot on. Glad to see you making huge progress Jon!
Happy 2 years!

Wow this song is really catchy... lol
I know right
Curious Wars use it for your commercial
***** If I ever choose to make a business I will no joke!
Curious Wars He is a talented musician/songwriter as well as comic, no doubt about it.
+Curious Wars Yep, that's the point.
I think Jon Lajoie has been a great comedy mind/talent for quite some time now!!! I guarantee you that this song will be used within the next year by some major corporation trying to tell you they are better than the other peoples out there because 'They Care about the Consumer". Also, his house isn't in foreclosure people... he made a ton of money on selling his Math Equations... ;-)
Absolute best and most brilliant line:
The music industry's dying,
But consumerism is thriving.
I weep for our future, but at least Mr. Lajoie brings some laughs to cut the pain.
"ART IS DEAD"
~Some artists in 500 B.C, probably.
That's why he is here
I miss you Jon Lajoie! Please post in 2015
Lisztomaniac Or 2017 lol
@@megasonicgeo or 2019 lol
@@bambooflute2589 well now hes got a non comefic band called wolfie's just fine
Damn John, you've come a long way. I still remember when I first subscribed to you after listening to Everyday normal guy. It's still kind of hard to believe that you've achieved this much. Keep it up man
Some things have changed since then, but I still make pretty good spaghetti sauce, my parents are still really nice people, and I'm still pretty good at making paper planes... Motha#%$@!!!
JonLajoie I do love me some spaghetti sauce.
You must have donated $100,000 to Jon's kickstarter to get him to comment on your post!
geterdonein01 Well I commented early when the video was uploaded, so that might be a plausible explanation. Either way, I like the fact that a popular youtuber like Jon still replies to his fans. It's cool to see and not many popular youtubers do that.
I love this song. I watched it when it first aired. Yet, still, it brings me a feeling of dread for the future. Jon is a genius.
another hit Jon!
"I need exposure my house is in foreclosure..." Great line.
2:11
Jon, you don't need your song to be in a commercial to be heard millions of times.
It already has.
True
I gotta get me some Insurance Insurance. This made me realize that I need assurance to be ensured that I'm insured against all my insurances contained in my insurance, for sure.
Are you sure?
Absolutely not. I could use some extra insurance for assurance
+thebroskeez You sure now? XD
Luis Santiago Only partially.
thebroskeez XD
This is the idea that may very well put Taco Corp on the map.
I better hear this song in a commercial soon!
So...Can I use this song for my commercial?
+Nefarious Meatloaf ...it's for cannibalism though
+Nefarious Meatloaf As long as you give him royalties.
+That Guy it was a reply to himself so it would be shown underneath what he said at first
another one of jon's masterpiece.
brabo
As a person working in the "music for commercials" business, I hereby confirm that this song is an indisputable masterpiece.
Watching video: wow this is quite calm for his video's :D
Last 10 seconds: and we're back :D
i would like to thank you john for being in my teenage years really helped out with focusing on something different than depression, forever the best and ahead of his time!
I was starting to think Jon Lajoie had sold out... How could I be more wrong? The amount of subtle messages in the song! Why haven't you released more videos this year. Sincerely, you're awesome!
Because he has a day job. Actor. Writer.
Omni Codex oh sleeper! Woop Woop!
he's too very super famous (super famous super famous) to sell out.
He's just been away making he finest three penis wine.
Where can I get a bottle?
Welcome back Jon. Great as always.
The irony of the song is that this video looks like it has pretty good production value. Must have cost a lot of money.
GEE JON, MAYBE THAT'S WHY YOU'RE LOSING YOUR HOUSE?!
5 years later and just as amazing.
Perfection.
what would be really dope is if a company actually used the chorus in their commercial and changed the words to
"We used this song in our commercial, We used this song in our commercial.
They gave me money, and are using it to sell something.
We used this song in our commercial"
i remember when you started on youtube -tear- look how far you have come man, Proud.
"I'll use it an not give any credit" - All of youtube
Haven't seen JonlaJoie in a while. Good to see their still funny
If I had something to sell, using this song in my ad would be at the top of my list.
lol Shawn Zipay! I love it!
This is seriously one of the best and cleverest videos on TH-cam, from the song (which is pretty good and enjoyable even without having awareness of the message) to the realization of the video ("your brand here" - brilliant!).
Amazing!
The fact that this has been out for 7 years and is only at 5.4M views is terrible. This deserves all the views.
10 years now
