The very 1st episode Pikes Speach was epic an Touched deep down as he shows how things ended for us in world war 3 an then to them your gonna do it. Thing I've just noticed. The Songs that feature characters from the TOS era (Uhura, Number One and Kirks song) have a very 60's MGM musical feel to them. The songs with characters exclusive to SNW are more modern. Spock playing outlier by going all new wave early 80's. (But you could argue Spock's voice tone was a massive influence on that genre)

She showed such joy in her accomplishment! I just wish the writers had addressed the obvious question about why she didn't tell Spock (so many: "I never asked you to change for me," "Boimler made me realize if I was never going to be an important part of your life," "I don't want to interfere with what you're destined to do," "I get the feeling I'm just part of an experiment with emotions you are destined to abandon," etc. Most likely: It will be hard to leave you and I'm putting off telling you until the crisis is over and we can figure things out."). But instead with get nothing but frustration at a relationship the writers built up, but then never really let us see, let alone, enjoy.

The only ones I liked prior to this was Buffy's "Once More with Feeling" (Tara can sing!) and Xena's "Bitter Suite". This was better than both by a very large amount. I think it's because the crew recognized that the musical part of it was unusual (even if they were compelled to do it for story reasons) mixed with a very large helping of amazing talent on the behalf of everyone in the episode.
I don't think we would have the same chemistry with TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, PIC, Prodigy, or DSC. I'm not sure about Lower Decks, but it might work there. Maybe. But, this crew was the best chemistry and talent to make the musical happen.

I was looking forward to what Star Trek would do with a musical episode... And it truly did not disappoint. I enjoyed it immensely and have been listening to the soundtrack over and over again since it aired. I just realized as well that Una had a second verse in the soundtrack version of "Keeping Secrets" that wasn't included in the episode. Everyone was awesome in this episode, but the women totally shone like stars with their numbers. I also love how Captain Pike sings his love for his crew with, "The Starship Enterprise feels electrified, I'm so proud to be your captain!" in the final number.
But as a male singer, my personal favorite number is Spock's "I'm The X." I'm a bari-tenor, while Ethan Peck is a baritone, maybe even a bass. I love the challenge of singing this song trying to get to my lower range and darker colors of my voice. Can't wait to do this the next time I'm at a karaoke bar... or maybe a Trek con in Toronto sometime!

I usually loathe musicals too. Every Gen-X remembers the Ally McBeal Christmas Musical from 2000, right? When I heard ST:SNW S2E9 was going to be a musical, I ignored it for weeks. I finally watched it today and I have to admit, this was one of the best episodes of season 2. Bravo! Job well done!! Come to think of it, if ST:NG did a musical episode, Worf would be kick-ass at bass and baritone, just saying.

Number 3 on the list should be 'Connect with your Crew' between Una and Jim Kirk. Otherwise, this is great sound track. I'd take this on vinyl, CD and DVD as soon as it hit the shelves. Definitely worthy of an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and Grammy's for all of them.
I stand corrected. It is indeed 'Connect to your truths' to connect to your crew.

My wife and I watched this episode only yesterday - and I didn't recover since from all these emotions that the idea, the music and the performances put me through.
Even for me as a hardcore metal fan, this space musical is by far the best and most original thing in the Star Trek universe since the Tribbles.
It's touching and moving and funny and emotional. Just incredible.
Thanks so much for hours of joy on end.

I just now got around to watching the Strange New Worlds ep, Subspace Rhapsody for the second time, after watching it the first time when it was first out.
I just have to tell somebody, I really loved it! I am a musician, so that might be another reason why for me.
But here's the thing, I realize the premise as basically.. ridiculous. It is rather silly. But at the same time, I love the episode and what they did with it! This is a strange feeling, both giving a thumbs up and down at the same time, but mostly up because I just enjoy it so much.
The songs are high caliber and really great, inducing a lot of emotion from the listener. They did such great character development in the episode, while singing the songs and otherwise. Very moving.
On the ridiculous side, every time a song starts, and the music starts playing, the characters will look up, telling us that they are hearing the music begin also. The subspace fold they are saying causes them all to break into song could not also compose this music, in the way humans recognize good musical melodies and so forth, and produce it for them to sing over like that! Lol. Also, if high emotions is what they determine causes them to break into singing, why did La'an not start singing when she has her very emotional talk with Kirk?
But anyways, like I say I really love it and it made me really excited. Strange New Worlds has been knocking it out of the park overall, it's been a great show and I'm very glad for it!

I think the meta-reason is that Melissa Navia has been dealing with the loss of her partner, Brian Bannon, who died suddenly between S1 and S2. She has talked openly about her grief in an interview in "The Ready Room" (as well as an article she wrote on talkhouse) that she'd go from sobbing her eyes out in her room then pull herself together to shoot a scene. She also praised the cast and crew for looking after her and checking to see if she needed breaks. I speculate the writers did not want to push her further than they did this season.

The one thing I feel is missing from this album is the Enterprise's part in We Are One. In the show version when the ships are "Dancing," for lack of a better word, you can hear her and it reinforced that she was just as important a character as everyone else. Other than that, this is magnificent.

Very similar to my top three, just swap private conversation with keep us connected. Jess and Celia were absolutely astonishing, Bush’s sultry low tones and Goodings angelic highs notes were perfection. I’m ready was so personal and savagely cold, keep us connected was soulful and heavy with hope and soaring highs. But Status Report was probably the best, the way it introduced the premise of the episode, chefs kiss.
