Sump dive

  • Did a sump dive in an undisclosed cave in Missouri. It was an easy cave trip to get to the sump. Water had been super clear but with an earthquake nearby earlier that week it silted it up pretty good. Once I was into the big room I got turned around and laid line back into my incoming line. After that I turned the dive. There is a narrow going passage I will have to go back and try!!!

    Hey Mike I’m new to your channel and your videos are amazing! I am new to this world as well. The company I work for has paid for all my dive equipment and certs just recently I became certified. I know the diving you do is way more advanced but I also grew up in a family with a father that was a saturation diver for an oil rig company and he lost a bunch of friends doing so. Just wanted to Thank you for your videos makes me glad I made the push to begin diving!

    Mike still repelling his way into caves !That's some serious body strength at your age. I'd only wish to be at least half as talented as you one day . Thank you for constantly inspiring many people like me to want to try and cave dive someday!

    As a wreck diver i really appreciate and enjoy your videos, there's nothing like that explorer sensation is there.
    Dam Mate! Your giving me the bug to get cave certified.
    God bless and keep exploring.

    Thank you again for sharing. It's fascinating. Also it looks exhausting. You think diving, floating easy, but it looks very strenuous.

      @mikeyoung8968  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dive itself is very easy. It’s the work getting to the water and getting back out that’s hard work!!!

    Question Mike, By any chance do you plan on going back maybe with a wetsuit and extra line to possibly take a look at that canyon? I just got excited to hear there was more to explore!

    I could watch this all day. Great to see those critters are surviving down there ok. I think I spotted the minnow's and crayfish but not the cave adapted fish you mentioned. Thanks for showing us more!

    Mike when you survey is it similar to how we do dry passage? Or do you have to do it "old school"?

    • @mikeyoung8968
      @mikeyoung8968  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is similar to how it’s done in dry cave but less accurate. We do a lot of estimating especially the LRUD

    Audio is amazing. Sump is opposite of a spring? I was a bit scared just because of that, even though low flow its probably fine.

    • @mikeyoung8968
      @mikeyoung8968  ปีที่แล้ว

      A sump is a low spot in a dry cave that you can’t get through without dive gear. Most times it comes back up in cave again.

      @@deltalima6703 sumps can be a siphon. If you are going down stream and it sumps out. Then it is a siphon.

    Hi! 23 year old fan here. I just wanted to drop by and let you know you’re the coolest, bravest guy on the planet! I’ve read stories about you, and didn’t know you had a TH-cam channel until you mentioned rebreathers on DiveTalk and I realized you were THE Mike Young! Your ability to keep your composure while your suit was filling with water was wild. I didn’t know that level of composure was achievable, to be honest.
    P.S. Michael, this video is terrifying!! Are you laying new line in an uncharted sump? 😭 I simply don’t have the balls.
