However, the following is where I disagree with you: Early on, you state that "unfortunately, Windows Search is a bit of a resource hog...(etc)." Then you state that a lot of people disable this, which means that "you won't have any sort of search feature on your Windows based system...(etc.)." Neither of these things are true. On my Windows 10 64-bit system, this service is using 9.1 MB of memory and 0% CPU resources at idle and while searching. While searching, Windows Explorer maxes out at about 4 MB/sec on my hard drive. Try it. Disable the 'Windows Search' Service, then do a search. It will still work. If you disable the 'Windows Search' Service, you are actually disabling the 'Microsoft Windows Search Indexer' - which is what appears if you bring up the 'Task Manager' window. This does not stop or prevent you from performing searches in Windows. What actually happens when you disable the 'Windows Search' Service is that it disables search indexing. Hi, this is great video.. love everything so much faster. I have a question I’m on win 11 and went thru all these steps.. whenever I restart windows I get ‘Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device’ . Is there any way round this? Thanks
Brian, my question concerns the power button. I have open shell and the menu is; switch user, log off, lock, sleep, hibernate, restart, and shut down. In the Windows System menu there are 3 choices, best power efficiency, balanced, and best performance. In the Control Panel there are 2 settings, turn off display, and put the computer to sleep and there options within these 2 settings. The Windows 11 Pro default setting for both is 5 minutes. My Dell XPS 8960 that I bought new in February has 5 external hard drives and some of these kept shutting on and off causing a continual beeping sound from my TV and a clicking sound inside the PC. Also, on the left hand side panel, some of the hard drives kept disappearing and reappearing. I had to unplug a hard drive then plug it back in to show up. The PC has a 1 TB SSD C drive and a 2TB HDD D drive and the D drive is locked but I don't use it, all my data is on the 5 external hard drives. The PC also has an i9 processor and 64GB of RAM. Regarding the sleep mode, with the Windows setting of 5 minutes for turn off display and put the computer to sleep, does it do exactly that?
Okay, I installed it and came back just to comment. This is an excellent tool. I can't believe how bad the windows file manager is compared to this. I've had lingering Adobe files that just never seemed to go away. I swear they must reinstall themselves... Anyway, there were so many files uncovered by this program. Thanks for putting out this video, if not, I may have never came across such a useful program. Also, I appreciate you doing the walkthrough and instructing to turn off indexing, and then disable windows search.
Brian, Is this Windows "Search" replacement called "Everything", one of those programs you just warned us to be careful installing due to MS aggressive new policy against 3rd party customization alternatives? This MS 3rd Party alternative response were included in recent Windows Updates that result in a "Black Screen of Death", and ultimately require a total re-installation of Windows?
Wait until Microsoft block this tool too. Will this toolbar work with %temp% and Run temp folder searching too? Because I do this all the time as a habit. What do? Do you still recommend it?
