If you’re that elite on defense I don’t think teams care. Being elite at anything is nice to have on the floor. And Clingan has proven he’s a more than willing and skilled passer. And that he can use his strength to score. He may end up a role player, but Klay Thompson has always been a role player.
And if the draft Sarr he’ll become a bust, so using your logic it’s a lose-lose situation for the Hawks. I personally think that Clingan will be a better fit for ATL; Sarr doesn’t have much offense skills nor IQ. Jalen Johnson, Mo Gueye and OO all give you what Sarr is projected to offer. With Clingan you at least get a little more versatility.

Seems to me, going with yet another big in the vein of alex len and frank kaminski would lead to similar results. Sarr is the clear choice in my opinion. He stretches (keeping in mind Trae adds points to hit percentage). He can switch which IS required of bigs playing with Trae. Hes a passer. Yes, isnt great in the pnr but so what, he can stretch. So we can run it with JJ and OO. Hes such a hard fit its crazy. Its the best scenario a guy like him can land in as a no. 1 pick.

You don’t switch with with Trae (why would you be switching Trae onto a big of all things). You want to be able to funnel his guy into rim protection, like the Mavs do with Luka. Mavs should be the blueprint defensively for the Hawks. Their other perimeter defenders are bad, so you’re not looking to switch in general but run people off the line and into your rim protection. Clingan fits that mold much better than Sarr. Plus, he’s a better rim runner and Trae is the best in the game at lobs. Also, Hawks already have pfs in JJ and OO but need a center (who’s not Capela). Clingan the much better fit for the Hawks and I just don’t see enough potential from Sarr to justify taking him over Clingan

Hawks have been drafting athletes for a long time. They need some muscle. Clingan is the best fit for the Hawks. And they need to win now as they don't have their draft picks for about 3 years. I think Clingan is the kind of beast they need. Not super exciting but they need a guy who can do the dirty work. Knock the crap out of somebody sometimes.

Either way the Hawks will finally have an all defense caliber player on their roster. This is the guy that can start to change the defensive outlook of the team, which is crucial for any squad that envisions themselves as future title contenders. Add a bigger defensive oriented SG to this mix and suddenly Atlanta is a top 10-12 ish defense.

If Hawks keep Murray and Young I feel like Clingan makes more sense because you would be in win now mode and Clingan has a higher floor. Sarr makes a little more sense if you are retooling and starting new with him.
In a vacuum, where injuries didn't exist, I'd give Clingan the nod because the size, passing, and screen-setting are all critical parts of a good team right now. However, the feet issues he's already experiencing at a young age give me pause. The one thing that will always derail a big-man's career is foot issues. The physics work against you. The defensive versatility Sarr brings works in more situations and you still have the upside potential offensively if you believe he's someone that will focus on improving.

Edey did finish with 37 pts but honestly he scored about 10 pts in garbage time (down 13+ with less than 4 minutes remaining) Some of these were simply concession dunks to keep from fouling. He also shot some free throws while Clingan was sitting. All in all he scored about 22 pts while being guarded by Clingan straight up. There were at least six or seven occasions where he got good post position but simply could not score over Clingan. Being able to stay home on Purdue's shooters because of Clingan's single coverage was the key to winning the title for UConn.

No other team in the NCAA could get away with trying to stop Edey 1 on 1 cuz he was just too big and dominant, but Clingan was the one guy that could actually match up with him and make him have to work extra hard for his buckets. I get the feeling that a couple of guys in the draft will have a Bigger impact in the NBA than Sarr. Sarr doesn’t come off as a player that is going to really elevate things in the NBA.

What happens when teams hunt Clingan to put him in action away from the basket that forces him to use his feet. Sarr can guard on the perimeter and I would be comfortable putting him on an island. I' don't think I can do that with Clingan.
