    Very good advice! The only other point I can think of is to be in agreement about your finances and budget. Minimalists tend to hate spending money, and non-minimalists may like to impulse shop or just have a less structured approach to money. It’s a good idea to discuss all things related to money with a potential partner!

    Priviet! I really like your channel 💚 Concerning your thoughts on birthday and Xmas gifts...my daughter is a born minimalist, with 9 she said already she wants only to have money as a gift, and she collected it for 2 years, she bought herself a computer with 11, ....and there is not much clutter coming in. She is 14 now, her room is always clean, she has not much clothes and things, but the few items she possess have a very good quality... I learned so much from her...it helped me to live an easier more joyful life, she is a wise soul just like you

    You made me laugh so much 😂😂 I threw away my husbands shoes and a pair of "blown out flip flops" without asking...he retrieved them from the garbage men. I then took them to a charity shop and HE went there and paid to bring them back 😂! He was definitely NOT minimalist and wore things until they fell off or fell to bits. Used to make me so angry. Now he is passed I miss his funny ways and wouldn't mind seeing those 'blown out flip flops' sitting proudly on the shoe rack XXXXX. I love your channel Vika...and to see your family when they are with you.

    Lol! My dad is huge into minimalism, when he travels for work (months on end), it’s never even a full carry-on for him. My mom is on the other end of the spectrum. In the first house that we moved into that had a garage (90% of houses in the city we moved to had a garage), half of the garage immediately got used for storage and clutter, almost all can be traced to my mom. Although this seems like excessive hoarding and unhealthy behavior, it’s so widespread and common here. Almost all my friends’ houses have at least half of their 2-car garage used ONLY for storage of things they never use, 2/3 if it’s a 3-car garage. Most have the entire garage filled like that :/

      THIS is a practical suggestion.
      I did a similar thing with my (ex) husband who bought himself new clothes every week. He had 37 pairs of trousers. Over time, by quietly moving them first to a bag in my wardrobe - then - a few at a time when l was sure he didn't miss them - to a charity shop - l reduced them to 11.
      I then moved on to the shirts and jackets.
      And then - okay - l moved on myself

    Totally agree with you, helping them to de cluttered is important, if i relocate his things I let him know where i put them and indeed respect their things, best thing is to keep their stuff separated, even when we travel I like to pack my own stuff in my own luggage, as he likes to mix in case we loose our luggage. He’s got his workshop and it’s messy but I just leave it alone. My suggestion with gifts he doesn’t use, re gift them to other people that way it doesn’t go to waste

Another tip for avoiding clutter is to stay away from markets, especially second hand ones because you can find too many nice things for very little money - and fill up your home quickly. He is OK with my minimalizem in our living space but everthing around is out of my hand. He can live without new clothes for 15 years but not without thousents of car parts and tools and tehnick stuf and.....so al my life with him I am keeping clean just maybe 100m2 in our 300m2 big house. And most of this things we never use in 22 years, so he is driveing me to divorce. I was a minimalist all this years thet my husband can buy this unnessesary things, what a waste of life and time and money. No question to sell, we must keep everthing. Lovely video, love your wise and down to earth advice on the topic.
    My partner himself is not the worst with creating clutter, but his whole family is a group of shopaholics. We live in Taiwan, and here it is part of the culture to decorate yourself with a lot of branded items. Also the stores are very smart at targeting families who are shopping together coming up with discounts if you buy a certain number of items, so many times my husband will be slightly pressured into buying something, we don't really need , so that the whole family can get a good deal on their purchases >_

    • @VictoriaTerekhina
      @VictoriaTerekhina  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow you’re in a pretty difficult situation! I don’t really know what you can do with the shopping with relatives problem. I usually don’t go to shopping centers with anybody and my husband too. But we don’t have relatives who would really want to shop with us to be honest😅 If my friend wants to buy something together I just say usually that I’m tight in my money or don’t like the piece at all and it works out for me.
      When my husband had a lot of things that were too small for him it also was difficult to convince him to declutter. The only ways that worked out were when I explained him that he can make something better out of these clothes (for example sell them and get some money, or give them to a particular person in need that he knows). And I also had to make him sure that we’ll easily buy new clothes if he will loose weight again and that new clothes would be anyway better because these might be already outdated and they won’t fit him perfectly. And that I’ll help him with the whole process, do everything I can myself, he just need to pick the clothes himself (because men like to control their things), so decluttering would be very fast and simple for him... It was a very long process which definitely took several months and I tried almost every argument that would be pleasing for him to hear but tried not to pressure him so he’d feel like it’s only his decision😅

    • @mondfalkin3781
      @mondfalkin3781 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      clothes that are not fitting create a silent message "you are not good enough, you are too fat, too skinny, too...something" getting rid of all clothes that do not fit and do not spark joy... gives a much better feeling, it has to do with self-love and self-worth, also to say "I love you but NO" to relatives and social pressure, it teaches the others respect and that they are allowed to say NO as well

However, he also has some stuff in our basement, and he doesn't really know what it is/ he could easily just throw it away, since it's in the basement and like that he won't use it anyway. Sometimes it’s because there is a memory attached to the object. I look at things that way and now for most of those things I just keep a picture of the object. Sometimes after time passes I can even let that go. Moving to a different home helps because if a person has to pack all that stuff and haul it around they quickly realize how much work it really is. Sometimes all that stuff is just overwhelming and when I goes it is a huge weight off a persons shoulders.
