I’m honestly caught in the middle between 2009 and 2022. 2022 shadow company had more personality. But 2009 shadow company’s radio chatter sounded intimidating.
One thing I really liked about 2009 shadow co, their deep and badass voice lines, they sound more calm and professional compared to new one (hell i haven't even mentioned 2009's beautiful gear). Too bad they still got destroyed because they couldn't handle Price and Soap's plot armor. They even have the most badass callsigns I've heard in a while: Oxide, Warhorse, Excalibur, Avatar, Disciple. These mfs do not mess around lol

Yeah but still keeping them bad ass without making them not appear as threats like understandable to be scared of ghost but if they just run away from ghost what’s the point of shadow company they would’ve been like the equivalent of storm troopers.
Especially that mission when you’re playing as Shadow Company operatives. The convoy getting ambushed and Graves begging Sheppard for backup really gives them characterization and allows the player to sympathize with them. You can tell Graves genuinely cares for his men.

I was so happy to see the shadow company being on the good side. Graves was one of my fav characters until the tables turned and I was left traumatized..... what made me even more sad was that Shadow company was just following Shepherd's orders.

They even actively patrol the area where they know both ghost and soap have been knocking them off one by one because they have their orders, but they are not afraid to express their fear/worries

Shadow Company being playable also completely destroyed any sense of mystery that the originals had. In the OG these guys were like an army of boogey men that appeared out of nowhere towards the end of the game. Calm, Professional, and focused. No need to know them because doing the talking isn't their job.
I wish Shadow Company and Task Force 141 were the multiplayer factions, with Shepherd and Laswell as the announcers or Graves and Price (if you wanna go down the theory that Graves was never in the tank)

Felt that, the original series had a beautiful yet subtle artistry and cinematics, while the reboot hold more firm into realism. Both are great series but nothing beats the first and last interactions with shepherd in the original.
We all knew what was coming in the new MW2 (betrayal) but Graves in particular made you forget what was coming. He’s such a good character and personally one of my favourites, the new shadow company seems much more fleshed out and you fight alongside them for a much longer amount of time compared to 2009 Mw2 which made the betrayal even worse in my opinion. Thank god ghost survived this time though 😅
Funny thing with Graves and who his voice actor is. I only know one other role the VA has done and it’s Rafe. I frankly find both to be very similar in personality. They are semi charismatic, somewhat reasnoble after all both tried to let the MC’s go or out of the picture diplomatically.
OG Shadow company actually are straight up zealots for Shep. They are US soldiers from multiple branches, mainly marines, that agree heavily with his ideals. hence the main callsign being 'Disciple', as they are all disciples of Shepherd
I just realized that. We never saw him enter the tank. We didn’t see his body either. The tank was probably remote controlled. He’ll probably return in mw3.
I really believed he was badass guy, even when he betrayed us. Despite covering his off-the-record operation's track, he thought about his men more than mission, which Shepherd refused to send back up...
Shadow Company should have stayed aligned with 141 in MWII. Like, why pull the same twist twice? How crazy would have it been if they wrote a situation where Shepherd commands Graves and the Shadows to kill 141, but Graves defies orders/kills his comms? Could you imagine people's reactions? Instead we get a betrayal we all saw coming with no where near the impact as the original MW2.
I think there is a chance where in MWIII they end up working with Shepard and Shadow company to take down Makarov's forces instead of what happened in the original where you work with Makarov to take down Shepard. I think they will have TF141 runout of leads or get cut off from resources and TF141 is forced to work with Shepard to stop a plot by Makarov

In the mission where we play as Shadow company, Graves repeatedly asks for support that Shepherd denies. So even if Graves follows orders now, he may snap and not put up with any more of the General’s bullshit someday.
nah Grave wouldn't do that, he's a good lad. He's a type of a commander that won't turn his back on his own men. Even on the precious black cargo operation, he's still requesting up a QRF to save his men from the heat.
2022 shadow company is far superior but I have a huge soft spot for mw19 shadow company cus they had characters like lerch and velikan - real question is do we think we will c the return of shadow company in some way in the future like the dlc campaign, new cod campaign or maybe a new mwII season as a disbanded group of operators who serve to no one👀👀👀?
they fell down due to their leadership falling (as mentioned in spec ops mode) but they’ll probably still persist as an organization, perhaps with help from people like Lerch
I’d like to believe Graves was remote controlling the tank at the end of MW22 allowing him to come back and be the main antagonist defending Shepard in the next entry. He was to good of a character to have him die in such an abrupt way.
Yeah the tank part seemed odd, very nondramatic for such a charismatic character. Also, what about Zakhaev and Macmillan? Are we gonna get another one of those Pripyat sniper missions.
@@lastname-Nm believe that in this universe(reboot) Both Victor and Imrav(if I’m saying it right) are dead, In the end of mw 2019 Captain Price mentions how he thought he buried Imrav Zakhaev back in Pripyat, which we can assume that in this universe he actually dies instead of getting his arm shot off. In a season trailer(forgot which one) for warzone we see Captain Price through Victor Zakhaev off a ledge but we don’t know if he is dead but it is a likely possibility that he is dead.(This is mostly assuming and theory based with some evidence so I might be wrong and we still might get missions with the Zakhaevs.
@@Fulcrox they are rly hard to kill imo. In the alone mission I got killed multiple times right in front of the church because of them. I only won because I lured them into a room and used takedown on them. Takedown is a 1 hit kill no matter what so it saves some ammo and time.
Can we just talk about how fantastic of an onrail section that shadow company ambush is. It's so frantic and fast you forget ots an onrail section because you're constantly moving in every direction, there's never a moment where you've been moving in one single direction long enough for you to realise
Damm I was hoping the warzone characters for shadow company would show up.. seeing Velikan and Lerch would be awesome in the campeign. And also hope to see more of shadow company soon
Lerch is still MIA and just absent but now Graves, a man named Oz, and Velikan are back in the spotlight. And, better yet, they’re working together with the 141 again.

One of the downsides that they are somewhat staying close to the roots when it comes to characters, we already knew about Shepherd and Shadow Company and therefore could expect what was going to happen down the line. The only reason you could see it coming, was because you were already suspicious of the characters when the campaign started.
In the OG MW games I just saw them as canon fodder. The new games really added a lot to them. Especially since it seems that graves really cares for his men in that one mission in MW2 where you’re playing as a shadow operator. Sucks he did a shitty thing & was desperate to keep the look of his pm squeaky clean.

Shadow Company was a secret unit, funded to be Shepherd ultranationalist personal army, they were all US soldiers, and used vehicles and callsigns no mercenary would use, guys are extremely loyal, and actual mercenaries have no loyalty, just like Makarov men they are just acting like Mercs, but they are ultras

Notice how the subtitles turn Graves' name from blue when he's a friendly to red at 27:06. It's a small detail, but it just outright lets you know that you've been betrayed by Shadow Company and General Shepherd.
They did a good job of building up the camaraderie with Shadow in the remake. It wasn't a surprise when they turned but it did actually feel kinda bad this time.
I do appreciate the rebooted MW being more clear on what Shadow Company actually is. In both the original and new versions they're a PMC, but in the original MW2 that isn't stated anywhere in the game. The remastered campaign does reword one of the plaques in the museum to mention it, but that's it. I remember when I first played I thought Shepard had somehow convinced an entire company of actual US soldiers to help in his conspiracy, and I was very confused how he managed to pull that off.
@@kuki1824 They used entirely different equipment from the actual US military that appeared in game and had a different system of callsigns. The Shadow Company emblem also doesn't line up with what any actual US military emblems look like. Also there's a radio conversation between two Shadows where one gets reprimanded and docked hazard pay for taking cover from a sandstorm; The US military doesn't dock hazard pay. They definitely were always intended to be PMCs but that was just never made clear originally.

But it's not stated that's what they are or that that's what he used the check for anywhere in the original MW2. And no they don't use the same helmets. They're similar, but they aren't the same. And even if they did, the entire rest of their kit is different. If they were actually supposed to be actual US military personnel, they would have just recolored the models instead of making new ones.
What i love about the mission "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is that if you observe properly when you are trying to reach Price.. there's actually have 2 sides of enemies that you can assist them to push.. you have to help either 1 to actually gain advantage depending on whos pushing but do not get spotted.. Played on veteran it helps alot
The only thing that new shadow company is missing is the intimidation factor of the regular grunt mercs. Graves is perfect for a leader and has a fun personality. But the soldiers need to talk more in missions and make more chatter like they did in the OG game and sound like they are a big threat. It doesn't help they had a lot of defeats what with losing the missiles and losing the gas in the warzone event
The OG mw2 had better impact for the betrayal. Watching most of the 141 getting wiped out in a matter of minutes by shadow company hits harder then a cutscene where no one but some random grunt gets killed. It doesn't make sense shadow company would willingly kill civilians but not the soldiers of the base they just took over.
Well, we don’t know exactly how much of 141 was wiped though. The one in Loose Ends was a squad after all. Maybe some survived. There’s a theory going on that they all went back to their units after the betrayal. After all, Shepard was only aiming for those who know.
It would be kinda interesting if roach made a return in a new cod and we hear that shepherd left him for dead in a burning pit (how roach dies with ghost) but him being roach somehow survived
I’m ngl the Shadow Company Ambush seems more disturbing and serious than other moments in the game. Especially the way they’re just chatting it up like a normal day at work and out of nowhere bullets start flying. For as cheesy as this campaign can be at times this was great, wish it was longer
In 2022, Shadow Company turned evil on a dime. It was honestly jarring. I knew they’d be bad guys, but it had ZERO build up and happened for almost no reason at all. Just because they were put in charge of a AO? Shepard is barely a bad guy too. Just tried to get missiles to Allies through illegal means. The game even says his intentions were good.
I wish they would’ve kept Shepherd’s og look. He just looked perfect imo. He wore his combat uniform and engaged in his dirty work and had that Hollywood mustache.
There’s something more sinister about his dress blues and pulling strings from the comfort of an office in the pentagon, being more detached with a certain sense of plausible deniability as his actions are buried behind red tape and top secret clearances and all that good shit. Grounds it more in “reality” so to speak

Shadow company wasn’t even known well until MW 2019 released them as a playable faction. I remember the OG MW2 I was so angry with Shepherd for killing Roach and Ghost, but the Shadow Company PMC had some of the coolest military gear I’ve seen in any COD game. Their NVG helmets and their professionalism being ex Rangers. MW2 2022 made them a lot more stronger than what they were in OG MW2
The story for MW2 2009 is just all around better. Not only is it filled with more action and iconic moments, it actually does make more sense. The plot for MW2 22 is sheer nonsense, however I’m not just viewing these games through nostalgia goggles. Gameplay-wise I think MW2 22’ is incredible, and while it’s story may be nonsense and less iconic, the characters themselves in the story are amazingly written and acted and we get a lot more time with them. Both have their highlights but man, it seems so obvious nothing will ever top the highs of the original MW trilogy.
All I'm sayin is that in the "boss" battle with Graves, the objective is never to "kill Graves" only "Destroy the Tank". I think there is a 99.95% chance that Graves is still alive
The ghost scene in MW2 stired up so many emotions amongst us boys. I can still remember how much vengeful and betrayed i personally felt at the moment and not to mention seeing ghost drop lifeless in front of us. I played it on a shi** laptop screen but it felt way real than any VR today, as if we were living that moment for real. I think it would be worth to say it the number 1 scene in a video game
The 2022 shadow company is amazing but the new SC operators Oz and Mila don't seem like Shadow Company at all. Shadow Company is a group of tactical mercenaries who operate just like a military, Oz and Mila look and act like civilians who chucked on some old airsoft gear they found in their little brother's storage closet

In future, Shadow Company should be way more intimidating than their 2022 appearance. As a faction they are possibly the most powerful of all the antagonists, easily taking on Makarovs and Zakhaevs forces and winning. I didn't feel that this time around, they fleshed Shadow Company out enough this time around. We only get a brief mission where we play as A Shadow Company soldier, but its easily the shortest mission of the MW2 campaign and only gives us an insight as to why missiles are a major plot point, that's literally it. Perhaps, we should have a campaign specifically focusing on the aftermath of Grave's 'supposed' death and the power vacuum left behind, where Some Shadow Company operatives work with TF141 and others work with Makarov to form the Inner Circle we see in MW3.

I always thought Shadow Company were basic marines in the 09 game. The 2022 depiction of them is better. Also I like how in the 2022 game they're mirrored as being the same as the Cartel and operate genuinely the same.
I hate the fact graves betrays us, dude is an amazing character but if i had to choose between alejandro and graves to betray us, i’d choose graves. Alejandro is a 🐐 (usually side characters are the ones who betray you in cod so thats why i mention alejandro too) but i know he wasnt gonna betray us since he is in the MW2 picture with soap ghost and price
I prefer the menacing style of 2009 shadow company and I like the 2022 more talkative interactive shadow company, 2022 just feels more real on that approach. But when it comes to the betrayal of shepherd and the introduction of shadow company I 100% love more.
Ever since general shepherd gave that orders to graves. General shepherd dosen't care anymore. Shadows are paid mercs. No matter if allies are getting treated differently. That's why they turned there back against general shepherd

With the release of season 4 there is now: Graves, Oz, Velikan, Barrage, Mila, and Arthur. Barrage has been vaulted if you didn’t get him in season 1 and Arthur is the blackcell operator for this season. The rest are available in this pass.
The DSM Ghost and Roach recovered from Makarov’s safehouse had information that, should they have looked into it, would’ve linked the No Russian events to Shepard as he sent Joseph Allen undercover into Makarov’s inner circle and point out the fact that the events would’ve pushed Russia to war with the US and the general knew it. Hence the “that’s one less loose end” line before Roach and Ghost get shot.

Felt that, the original series had a beautiful yet subtle artistry and cinematics, while the reboot hold more firm into realism. Both are great series but nothing beats the first and last interactions with shepherd in the original.
We all knew what was coming in the new MW2 (betrayal) but Graves in particular made you forget what was coming. He’s such a good character and personally one of my favourites, the new shadow company seems much more fleshed out and you fight alongside them for a much longer amount of time compared to 2009 Mw2 which made the betrayal even worse in my opinion. Thank god ghost survived this time though 😅

Funny thing with Graves and who his voice actor is. I only know one other role the VA has done and it’s Rafe. I frankly find both to be very similar in personality. They are semi charismatic, somewhat reasnoble after all both tried to let the MC’s go or out of the picture diplomatically.

They are US soldiers from multiple branches, mainly marines, that agree heavily with his ideals. hence the main callsign being 'Disciple', as they are all disciples of Shepherd

Shadow Company should have stayed aligned with 141 in MWII. Like, why pull the same twist twice? How crazy would have it been if they wrote a situation where Shepherd commands Graves and the Shadows to kill 141, but Graves defies orders/kills his comms? Could you imagine people's reactions? Instead we get a betrayal we all saw coming with no where near the impact as the original MW2.
I think there is a chance where in MWIII they end up working with Shepard and Shadow company to take down Makarov's forces instead of what happened in the original where you work with Makarov to take down Shepard. I think they will have TF141 runout of leads or get cut off from resources and TF141 is forced to work with Shepard to stop a plot by Makarov

On a more serious note, Graves does have beef with Shepherd since he blames him for getting his men killed and the missiles stolen. In the mission where we play as Shadow company, Graves repeatedly asks for support that Shepherd denies. So even if Graves follows orders now, he may snap and not put up with any more of the General’s bullshit someday.

@@lastname-Nm believe that in this universe(reboot) Both Victor and Imrav(if I’m saying it right) are dead, In the end of mw 2019 Captain Price mentions how he thought he buried Imrav Zakhaev back in Pripyat, which we can assume that in this universe he actually dies instead of getting his arm shot off. In a season trailer(forgot which one) for warzone we see Captain Price through Victor Zakhaev off a ledge but we don’t know if he is dead but it is a likely possibility that he is dead.(This is mostly assuming and theory based with some evidence so I might be wrong and we still might get missions with the Zakhaevs.

@@Fulcrox they are rly hard to kill imo. In the alone mission I got killed multiple times right in front of the church because of them. I only won because I lured them into a room and used takedown on them. Takedown is a 1 hit kill no matter what so it saves some ammo and time.

2009 was so unexpected and full of emotions. 2022 had a great dynamic of brotherhood leading up to its betrayal, but you could see it coming.
One of the downsides that they are somewhat staying close to the roots when it comes to characters, we already knew about Shepherd and Shadow Company and therefore could expect what was going to happen down the line. The only reason you could see it coming, was because you were already suspicious of the characters when the campaign started.

In the OG MW games I just saw them as canon fodder. The new games really added a lot to them. Especially since it seems that graves really cares for his men in that one mission in MW2 where you’re playing as a shadow operator. Pretty sure the OG Shadow Company was an actual unit of the US military where as the remake has them as a Private Military Corporation

They did a good job of building up the camaraderie with Shadow in the remake. It wasn't a surprise when they turned but it did actually feel kinda bad this time.
I do appreciate the rebooted MW being more clear on what Shadow Company actually is. In both the original and new versions they're a PMC, but in the original MW2 that isn't stated anywhere in the game. The remastered campaign does reword one of the plaques in the museum to mention it, but that's it.
I remember when I first played I thought Shepard had somehow convinced an entire company of actual US soldiers to help in his conspiracy, and I was very confused how he managed to pull that off.

The Shadow Company emblem also doesn't line up with what any actual US military emblems look like. Also there's a radio conversation between two Shadows where one gets reprimanded and docked hazard pay for taking cover from a sandstorm; The US military doesn't dock hazard pay. They definitely were always intended to be PMCs but that was just never made clear originally.

But it's not stated that's what they are or that that's what he used the check for anywhere in the original MW2.
And no they don't use the same helmets. They're similar, but they aren't the same. And even if they did, the entire rest of their kit is different. If they were actually supposed to be actual US military personnel, they would have just recolored the models instead of making new ones.
What i love about the mission "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is that if you observe properly when you are trying to reach Price.. there's actually have 2 sides of enemies that you can assist them to push.. you have to help either 1 to actually gain advantage depending on whos pushing but do not get spotted..

The only thing that new shadow company is missing is the intimidation factor of the regular grunt mercs.
Graves is perfect for a leader and has a fun personality.
But the soldiers need to talk more in missions and make more chatter like they did in the OG game and sound like they are a big threat.
It doesn't help they had a lot of defeats what with losing the missiles and losing the gas in the warzone event
The OG mw2 had better impact for the betrayal. Watching most of the 141 getting wiped out in a matter of minutes by shadow company hits harder then a cutscene where no one but some random grunt gets killed. It doesn't make sense shadow company would willingly kill civilians but not the soldiers of the base they just took over.
Well, we don’t know exactly how much of 141 was wiped though. The one in Loose Ends was a squad after all. Maybe some survived. There’s a theory going on that they all went back to their units after the betrayal. After all, Shepard was only aiming for those who know.

I’m ngl the Shadow Company Ambush seems more disturbing and serious than other moments in the game. Especially the way they’re just chatting it up like a normal day at work and out of nowhere bullets start flying. For as cheesy as this campaign can be at times this was great, wish it was longer

In 2022, Shadow Company turned evil on a dime. It was honestly jarring. I knew they’d be bad guys, but it had ZERO build up and happened for almost no reason at all. Just because they were put in charge of a AO?
Shepard is barely a bad guy too. Just tried to get missiles to Allies through illegal means. The game even says his intentions were good.
In the remastered, I like to think the soldiers waiting for Soap and Roach at the end of _Cliffhanger_ were from Shadow Company.
I wish they would’ve kept Shepherd’s og look. He just looked perfect imo. He wore his combat uniform and engaged in his dirty work and had that Hollywood mustache.
There’s something more sinister about his dress blues and pulling strings from the comfort of an office in the pentagon, being more detached with a certain sense of plausible deniability as his actions are buried behind red tape and top secret clearances and all that good shit. Grounds it more in “reality” so to speak

Shadow company wasn’t even known well until MW 2019 released them as a playable faction. I remember the OG MW2 I was so angry with Shepherd for killing Roach and Ghost, but the Shadow Company PMC had some of the coolest military gear I’ve seen in any COD game. Their NVG helmets and their professionalism being ex Rangers. MW2 2022 made them a lot more stronger than what they were in OG MW2
The story for MW2 2009 is just all around better. Not only is it filled with more action and iconic moments, it actually does make more sense. The plot for MW2 22 is sheer nonsense, however I’m not just viewing these games through nostalgia goggles. Gameplay-wise I think MW2 22’ is incredible, and while it’s story may be nonsense and less iconic, the characters themselves in the story are amazingly written and acted and we get a lot more time with them. Both have their highlights but man, it seems so obvious nothing will ever top the highs of the original MW trilogy.
All I'm sayin is that in the "boss" battle with Graves, the objective is never to "kill Graves" only "Destroy the Tank". I think there is a 99.95% chance that Graves is still alive

The ghost scene in MW2 stired up so many emotions amongst us boys. I can still remember how much vengeful and betrayed i personally felt at the moment and not to mention seeing ghost drop lifeless in front of us. I played it on a shi** laptop screen but it felt way real than any VR today, as if we were living that moment for real. I think it would be worth to say it the number 1 scene in a video game

In future, Shadow Company should be way more intimidating than their 2022 appearance. As a faction they are possibly the most powerful of all the antagonists, easily taking on Makarovs and Zakhaevs forces and winning. I didn't feel that this time around, they fleshed Shadow Company out enough this time around. We only get a brief mission where we play as A Shadow Company soldier, but its easily the shortest mission of the MW2 campaign and only gives us an insight as to why missiles are a major plot point, that's literally it.
Perhaps, we should have a campaign specifically focusing on the aftermath of Grave's 'supposed' death and the power vacuum left behind, where Some Shadow Company operatives work with TF141 and others work with Makarov to form the Inner Circle we see in MW3.

I prefer the menacing style of 2009 shadow company and I like the 2022 more talkative interactive shadow company, 2022 just feels more real on that approach.
But when it comes to the betrayal of shepherd and the introduction of shadow company I 100% love more.

With the release of season 4 there is now: Graves, Oz, Velikan, Barrage, Mila, and Arthur. Barrage has been vaulted if you didn’t get him in season 1 and Arthur is the blackcell operator for this season. The rest are available in this pass.

The DSM Ghost and Roach recovered from Makarov’s safehouse had information that, should they have looked into it, would’ve linked the No Russian events to Shepard as he sent Joseph Allen undercover into Makarov’s inner circle and point out the fact that the events would’ve pushed Russia to war with the US and the general knew it. Hence the “that’s one less loose end” line before Roach and Ghost get shot.
