- Sample from the album - “Botswana: Night in the African Bush" - wildambience.com/albums/botsw...
This recording features nocturnal ambience & wildlife sounds from the African bush, including the calls of lion, leopard, elephant, Spotted Hyena and Black-backed Jackal, as well as birds such as Pearl-spotted Owlet & African Scops Owl.
It’s a challenge to reduce a 64 minute recording down to a brief sample and still retain the feel and pace of the entire album, but this 8 minute composition features some of the highlights.
A few notes on some of the sounds heard in this sample:
0:00 - 0:52: Chacma Baboons squabble as they settle for the night in their roosts high in the mopane trees above.
0:52 - 1:27: Large herbivores running past the microphones. Not sure which species this is, but possibly Greater Kudu or female Common Eland which were both common at this location. The calls of Ring-necked Doves fade as darkness falls.
1:27 - 1:52: A few deep grumbles from elephants feeding nearby, cracking branches as they strip the bark from the mopane trees. Chacma Baboons barking in the background.
1:52 - 2:14: Deep sawing growls from a leopard while an elephant cracks branches and then roars in the background.
2:14 - 3:18: A series of whoops from a Spotted Hyena
3:18 - 4:40 - African Scops Owl calls in the foreground with Black-backed Jackals howling in the distance.
4:40 - 6:40: Distant hyenas along with Pearl-Spotted Owlet making the loud whistling duet closer to the mics
6:40 - 7:42: Lion roaring with Black-backed Jackals calling in the response.
7:42 - 8:42: Double-banded Sandgrouse and Spotted Hyena calls.

So amazing!
No sleep tonight ?? What is going on, full moon? Too hot? Love it, thank you so much for sharing with us living among concrete. 😊 🙏
The nocturnal sounds at this location in Botswana were great. Wildlife was abundant and many of the creatures were more active and vocal after dusk. No full moon and the temperature was quite cool, but as long as it wasn't windy the night soundscapes were wonderful.
@@WildAmbience I know, it was my weird weak sense of humour. I am living just at the edge of a forest reserve here in Qld, and can be quite busy at dawn and dusk with all the birds and frogs we have around. No big beast though, koalas and roos don't make much noise. 😊
Oh this is amazing 💖
Glad to hear you're enjoying the sounds!
