Rock Hyrax Sounds - Evil cackling call & cries.

The sounds of Rock Hyrax making loud cackles and cries at night in a rocky gorge in South Africa. Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis) have a wide repertoire of vocalizations including a screaming call, grunts, snorts, wails and these cackling calls which sound a bit like evil laughter! The Rock Hyrax is also known as the Dassie, Cape Hyrax and Rock Rabbit.

It was rather surprising to find that these critters were more closely related to elephants than to rodents.

They do superficially look like rodents but are quite different in a number of ways.
