@@monkeytrident I have the 5800x3d on this board and it’s an amazing cpu I’m paired with a 4080, I’d say anything from a 4070 and up is gonna be great, never had an and gpu so can’t comment on them but I’ve heard they offer good value, selecting a gpu depends on resolution and what games you play and of course what budget you have 👍🏻
Nice to see this video. Just bought this motherboard used with 5 2600x bundled + some nice aftermarket cooler. I know the cpu is not top of the line but for a while it will be fine. Looking to get maybe 5 3600 or 5600. Here where I live 5 3600 is 88 euro. Ridiculous. Good to know that there is great upgrade path with this board let's say 5800x3d even :))
I haven't bought a full ATX motherboard since the 90's I think? I only buy micro atx boards. MSI is my choice of manufactures. All though I did buy two budget Gigabyte boards for my 10th and 12th gen Intel CPU's. both were right around $80.00 US off Amazon. No frill motherboards. One is an H610M S2H DDR4 and the other is a B560M DS3H V2 DDR4. Another great review Mike and Lady Kath. Take care all. Cheers
Really glad to see a “resent” review of a b450-board! I have the first gen Ryzen and my motherboard (b320) crashed a couple of weeks ago. The “new” b550 chipset doesn’t support first gen ryzen (angry for that!!) So I am looking for a b450. Not many new ones to buy tho. But now I know what to look for in the second hand market ❤️ so thanks!! I don’t really feel like I need to buy a newer cpu yet. So b450 it is!

With the pricing of new AM5 and Intel Z690/790chipsets ….. I’m surprised not all ….. or many feature features such as debugging LEDs, an additional cpu power input (1x 4-pin) and “Bios flashback”🧐😭 such as contained on this B450 and notably older chipset / motherboard 👍🥰
Surprised to see a review on this board considering its age, but I bought this exact board new last year at around this time when replacing my B350 HP Sunflower MB. It's a bit overkill for my Ryzen 2700 but I couldn't beat the price at the time for a board that included WIFI.

Indeed I can say, actually having this exact same motherboard with a 5700G that it is a great combination. The main thing is the Displayport HDMI out and the fact the APUs use PCI-E3 not 4 mean if you can get this board for the APUs then you would probably be wasting the money on anything more. I have a SATA PCI-E card so even though using an NVME drops the ports down to 4 from 6, that adds the ports back. The RGB looks great in my Dark Base Pro 900 r.2. I paid £58.32 exc VAT (£69.99 inc) new from ebuyer on 21/11/21 when it was on offer - no brainer. Yeah yeah I got my board and the new Intels came out soon after, but at the time I couldn't afford a gfx card and still can't quite yet though I can still put say a 6700XT in there maybe and it'll do fine. So right system, for the right time at the right price for me, I was lucky!

the slight issue is that the VRM and also the PCIe bus speed is only gen3 so you miss out on the faster features of the newer CPU, it will be faster but not as fast as it could otherwise be with a more modern motherboard. But the Carbon is the best of the B450 boards so it won't be terrible
Great Video! Glad that you're still reviewing B450 boards. I will be purchasing this motherboard at a really good price next week and I need some advice. I will use my 2 year old NVME M.2 drive (XPG SX8200 Pro M.2 500GB) on this MOBO. Thing is, the XPG has its own cooling shield (which I've already applied). That said, the NVME cooling shield that will come out of the box looks really cool and will make the build more sleeker. Can I put it on top of the XPG cooling shield? Or would you suggest that I don't use it at all - I'm OK with that as well since the only reason I am going to use it is for aesthetics. Also, it would be great if you can put out a video soon of the build you made with this mobo 🙂
Hi, I have a question, I have a B450 MSI gaming pro motherboard, I would like to switch to the Rayzen 7 5800x CPU, now I have a 2600x Rayzen 5, is this motherboard compatible? I also updated the Bios on MSI, the most recent one dates back to July 2022, will it be compatible if I buy it? Should I go into the BIOS after changing the CPU and do something else?

I think this board, and to an extent its twin, the tomahawk black (they are the same board) has a downside, one I think its the unfortunate trade off when picking a bargain killer like this. only one m. 2 slot. I think for a full sized board, 2 slots is a must. I can do without a pcie x4 slot. I think 3 pcie slots are plenty enough. in other brands, there are boards with 2 slots, some in smaller form factor like matx, even mini itx. luckily vendors realised and now they include 2 m.2 slots in mainstream, gaming focused boards, starts with b550. but IMO b550 makes less sense, unless you have the need for pcie 4.0 and devices that can utilise it, you are better off with b450.
@@mikesunboxing well like this board, most b550 boards include 2 m.2 slots, as well as x470 boards. both are bad deals compared to b450, but if you need extra slot for m.2 storage, you either go buy a reputable m.2 pcie x4 adapter card which end up cost more combined than a b550/x470; or you could just buying those boards instead. when i bought my tomahawk max i dont have much choices, this board wasnt available, all i got are the sea of asus boards with cheaped out vrm, there were no second hand b550 boards and they cost 2x+ over this one, and x470 being nobody buys then, costs same as new. the was from a someone else, not a dealer, didnt have an io shield. but turned out great, i bought an original io shield later. i generally in the need for 2 m.2 expansion, now im hunting for good adapter cards. cheaper cards often have problem like dropping lanes. also some boards only have x2 lane on the bottom pcie slot which makes it almost undesirable for installing an ssd. on top of that, good cards tend to be bigger, which is bad for graphics card cooling as well. ps. i checked it later, this board wasnt available in my region to begin with. bummer, something to do with wifi whatnot.

This Motherboard is not bad. But to be honest, I faced lots of problems with it. I use RYZEN 7 57OOG and RTX 3060 Ti on it. At first It couldn't even Recognised The CPU. After hours of research, The problem I found out was : Update the BIOS. But man, How would you update the BIOS when the board don't even recognise the CPU. And you can't even access the BIOS menu . I mean , YK, updating BIOS from the BIOS Configuration Menu ( MSI click BIOS 5 ) Sigh . Anyway at last I finally did updated the BIOS via USB and pressed that damn button (flash button) So yeah, My first impression on the board was not that great. Second thing. At some cases, my PC crashes!! Windows issues? No! I use Windows 10 pro , the highly optimised one. But I don't know why the pc crashes.... Specially whenever I try to screen record my gameplays , the PC crashes, ahhhhhhhh
you are using a PCIe gen 4 graphics card on a PCIe gen 3 motherboard and processor and the pcie gen 3 will only be x8 not x16 so you are going to need to tell the bios the GPU slot is PCIe 3 not auto or gen 4 to stop PCIe signalling issues and crashing

the extra 4 pin might be useful for overclocking and high core count CPUs but rarely needed to be honest

Currently rocking a R7 3700x with this board, soon it's gonna be R7 5800x or R9 5900x. The VRMs on this mobo are surpringly great.

you will need to replace the shield on the drive most likely or use less mounting pressure on the msi one

it is compatible but the VRM might not be up to the job, depending on your workflow

Motherboards can pick up dust just fine, all you have to do is mount it to a case and leave it lying down. Or mount it to a test bench. 🤣

Read the manual Yoda; often using the secondary M.2 connection will disable one of the Sata ports and specificy which of them it is.
