Excellent job here Mike. Thank you for calling out the dubious advertising of doubling components for CPU power phases. I was surprised to find the B550 Aorus Master actually really had like 14 phases if I'm not mistaken, but most of the time that's not the case. Very details review sir, thanks.
thanks James, yeah i'll call it where is needs it, the design itself isn't bad and really that misleading, just a bit difficult to compare when looking at phases, when all phases or either split, doubled, virtual or whatever term they choose to use. direct physical phases really don't always mean it is good either so the components and amp ratings are often more important that pure phase count
Bought this one yesterday replacing my Aorus Elite x570 that kept dying. It has the first bios for 5000 series so you can get a post with them, posted my 5900x and pcie 4.0 on my M.2 took it to 7300MB read/5300MB write, win10 was lightning fast. Then the Bios Flash utility in bios was good, nice and easy comparable to the Gigabyte one that kept not working. VRM etc runs low, even while using PBO at 4.9 - 5ghz.
I have two computers with AM4: an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus motherboard with Ryzen 5 5600 and another computer with an MSI MPG X570 motherboard and an older Ryzen 7 3700X (2020) processor, the watt consumption of the 3700X is much lower (from 15 in idle to maximum 35 Watts). I have found that an SSD hard drive has a greater impact on computer performance than the CPU. I used to run Windows from an HDD (spinning hard drive), now my Windows, Firefox and Steam are installed on the SSD: The performance increase is 100% to 200%, loading times have been reduced to a fraction of the time, all programs and games load much faster. [...] Advice to all: Use a post-purchase CPU cooler with at least 120mm fan diameter and one or two fans for all AM4 processors. I recommend all the common Noctua models, such as the Noctua NH-U12S Redux or the Noctua NH-U12A. The noise level is reduced by 250% compared to a standard AMD fan because the larger fan, it spins at slower RPM and because of the larger cooler (with more heat pipes) dissipates heat better and faster.
Ah the motherboard that introduced me to @MikesUnboxing Couldn't get the screen to work so found your vid about bios flashback update tutorial. (Ps didn't work as it was just an issue my old GPU I used to test it) Ironically forced me to buy the kids 2 1660Supers instead of holding off and waiting to see what nvidea/amd were going to release (which i would still be waiting on now).
I've always liked MSI, but I have to admit the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi mobo in my media PC is operating perfectly with the 3200g. Gigabyte has come out with a Gigabyte X570S AORUS Master that looks as good as the new Z590 mobos, and they did away with the chipset fan. Also, I like Gigabyte's RGB Fusion software. It's small, simple and so far it appears to work well.
i think that is one of the first positive comments i have heard for rgb fusion! I actually liked it on the aorus elite, just seemed a little dated looking but totally functional
@@mikesunboxing True, but I only need it to do a system-wide static color. That's easy no RGB by only hooking up the wires needed to make the static color I want. But it's tougher with ARGB. That requires a controller or software. I hate controllers.
So naturally I went searching for the Oletta Liano comment. O's using RGB!! Oletta, see my video on OpenRGB 0.6, I fly over compatible hardware, hopefully it can work for you too.
@@jamesmiscellaneous I have always used RGB lighting. But only one static color. With 12v RGB it was easy. It's harder with 5v ARGB. But that's not my issue now. I'm trying to cancel a refund request on Amazon, but can't find a freaking link anywhere to do so.
@@OlettaLiano I remember you saying that, I use mostly a static color on all my ARGB as well, I only have 2 colors on my ram modules. I'll punch Jeff Bozo in the face for you if I see him Ms. Liano.

I just bough this board and a 5600G... I'll see if it already comes with the BIOS updated or not...
Interesting review Mike. My question would be what do you really gain by spending £140 or more? If you are gaming then surely gpu cpu and monitor would take priority (if available of course) for monies. If high workloads say media like you do would you see a distinct advantage paying so much more than these boards! I am awaiting del of Asus Rog Strix B450 Gaming II you reviewed so gives me chance to use 1st or 2nd gen Ryzen to replace my FX8350. Least then I can later upgrade to 3rd gen if needed. My FX8350 seems fast compared to my daughter's R3 1200 in comparison. But I appreciate we all have differing uses! Keep up the great reviews and streams. Stay safe everyone.
Thanks Nick, it is true what you are saying there, it gets to a point where the return on investment goes down a lot after a certain point, really around the b550 gaming plus and strix ii levels. anything above really is just features and lights
I'd rather get a value b550 than a value x570. Most value x570 board doesn't have the second gen4 m.2 but rather a gen3. The x570-a pro and the gaming edge are 2 from msi, but other brand does the same. It looks like they designed these board for the value chipset but had to fit the x570 because the b550 was not available.
Just bought this for my son's first gaming PC - Ryzen 5 5600, Gigabyte 3060 Vision Ti 8gb, 32gb 3800 RAM, 2 - 1Tb Nvme (Amazon sent me an extra Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1Tb so why not? LOL). We're going with a 240mm AIO even though it's not necessary for aesthetics and an 850w Corsair PSU for future proofing eventual upgrades. Total of 6 RGB fans (including AIO) and two non RGB in the basement (intake) in a HYTE Y60 case. Hoping this sets him up for a while (he's 13). It's my first build in MANY MANY years and I want us to build it together. Any thoughts on this? Think it'll run his Meta Quest 2 via Linq cable smoothly?
I'm still using a ps2 keyboard.. Part of the reason is that I use one with F-keys grouped in 4 sets of 3 instead of 3 sets of 4. It's very difficult to find a replacement with that layout.
I had a quick question I just purchased this motherboard with a ryzen 5 5600x would I need too do a bios update? I’ve googled it an it said it should be good too go but other people say you might need too update
This board is currently available on Amazon Netherlands for 90 euros which seems pretty great value - the X570S Torpedo Max is also available for 140 euros. I'm very tempted by either of these for my new PC, but also wondering if there will be more great deals on 500 series boards coming in the next few weeks as we get closer to Ryzen 7000 launch. I find it hard to know what's the best choice - keep waiting or pick one of these 2 up.
a few more months into summer and prices could drop but shipping expenses might increase so difficult to tell, black friday will be interesting as new intel and amd stuff will be out so the last gen will be cheaper
I just ordered this board from Best Buy for a ryzen 7 5800x I just bought and I hope it’s a simple setup. Had an old prime x370 pro mobo and it wasn’t compatible. It was driving me crazy I had no picture didn’t know what the problem was until I looked up the compatibility issues.

All right here I go! Can you explain the limitations, the Gen 3 & Gen PCIE slots? Am using an M.2 Gen 3 I believe. The Gen 4 was a bit out of my PC build budget! If I plan on using the M.2 & a GPU (gotta check the specs on a Radeon 6600) think it's a Gen 3 but will check. Can I have the M.2 in one of the spots and the GPU? I do have an SSD that is meant to go with the build, the M.2 being the primary storage, & the SSD a second. Are there some BIOS tweaks? Thanks
@@mikesunboxing hmm.. okay thank you again! 🤓 I got a couple different size GPU support posts (no, I don't think it's a gimmick). I think the PCIE 4 slot might be reinforced to help keep the GPU stable, but I would rather have an in place support. Not sure if the PCIE 3 is reinforced as well.
Have you any thoughts on MSI B550-A Pro? Not sure you ever did a video on it. This mobo seems a small upgrade but you'd still recommend it? Snagged it for £51.89 on prime day used like new so definitely value for money.

swings and roundabouts really the lower latency helps to keep things snappy, but the higher frequency also will make some apps run better. to be honest the 3200 will most likely overclock to 3600 anyway these days if you wanted to, and the 3600 would likely drop to CL16 with a few tweaks so either way it should be fine and really only in benchmarks would you be able to tell the difference most of the time

The noise level is reduced by 250% compared to a standard AMD fan because the larger fan, it spins at slower RPM and because of the larger cooler (with more heat pipes) dissipates heat better and faster.
interesting information there.

It looks like they designed these board for the value chipset but had to fit the x570 because the b550 was not available.
yeah i think you might be right there
Just bought this for my son's first gaming PC - Ryzen 5 5600, Gigabyte 3060 Vision Ti 8gb, 32gb 3800 RAM, 2 - 1Tb Nvme (Amazon sent me an extra Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1Tb so why not? Think it'll run his Meta Quest 2 via Linq cable smoothly?
sounds like a good project to get back in the game with should be pretty plain sailing, just check the bios before building
