Along with a few hm slaves, he singlehandedly carried me through the game, and dialga/palkia/[lake guardian] helps him finish it off. He is the frailest of the three but easily makes up for it by being able to run a mixed set and with a great speed stat. I like how well rounded the sinnoh starters are in terms of popularity. I think they're the only trio so far where one mon isn't blatantly more loved than the other two. My favorite is Infernape, but I'd be telling a huge lie if I said I hated the other two or thought they sucked.
+BenPlaysGames I know you don't know me but can I ask you this favor there's a new Pokemon game out called Pokemon remake and it's way better than Pokemon do I kid you not I will link you the video
I picked Piplup in Platinum and really only struggled with the second gym. It took over 5 years to finish the game because I didn't know about the Distortion World until I found videos about how to get past that part of the game on TH-cam. My Empoleon defeated the 8th gym very easily since it was in its 80s and I beat Cynthia on my second try because I kept running out of PP for Surf the first try and my starter was my strongest Pokemon most of the time up until Pokemon Black 2 when I replaced my starter with Stoutland which I trained to Level 100.
Actually, even though I picked Piplup in my first playthrough of Pokémon Pearl (because I'd seen it in like 1 anime episodes and thought it was funny, and I was five years old), my favorite Sinnoh starter, and my favorite Pokémon of all time, remains as Infernape. I was kinda scared that this'd lessen my liking towards it, but it didn't. On the contrary, I think this made me connect even more with it. Although I must say you did trample Torterra a bit too much even though you said they were so similar in the numbers.
And torterra is tanky, mine lived a flame wheel from Barry’s infernape who was five levels higher than me. And then I ko’ed it in one hit with an earthquake. It can go even with flint : )
Sinnoh was always my favorite region, as well as my first region I was introduced into. Of course, choosing the starter was by far the hardest decision for me. HECK, PUTTING MY TEAM TOGETHER WAS SUPER TOUGH! Aside from that, after doing some thinking, I generally went for Piplup more often than not. (Torterra was also super cool for getting that Earthquake really quick in the game)
Infernape also has a MASSIVE advantage in Diamond/Pearl as literally the only other Fire type you could get during the main game was Ponyta which pales in comparison in every way (though more Fire types were added in Platinum).
+Team Awesomeness: Yeah, but not until you unlock the National Pokédex. The Chimchar and Ponyta lines are the ONLY fire type lines in D/P's regional Pokédex. With that said, I hope the D/P remakes use Platinum's regional Dex instead of D/P's.
One point you forgot about Empoleon is that if you evolve it to Empoleon at level 36, Maylene is a problem. I've had that experience. One thing that can be a saving grace for Empoleon is it learning Drill Peck (Flying move) but I use Chimchar more. My best Infernape's moves is U-Turn (Bug), Flamethrower, Rock Slide and Focus Blast (Fighting).
Piplup is actually my favorite starter in the Sinnoh League. Sure I know Empoleon has a weakness to fighting and ground, but those I usually let staraptor handle those types which was always my second strongest.

There are really no right or wrong answers from who you choose as your starter, how you choose your starter depends on your style, if you're the type to take things head on and to keep attacking then Chimcar's the obvious and predictable choice. If those are the type to play it safe and act on the defensive side then Piplup's the choice for them. If those can take it but can also dish it out in the end, then Turtwig's the kind of Pokemon they'd want. The starters aren't bad themselves but how they perform in playthroughs solely depends on the player's judgement, and if that starter doesn't work well it's because its bad it's probably because of your poor judgement. And before even going by type, and how it's like a whole "rock-paper-scissors" thing there are such things as type COVERAGE and STRATEGY, and as long as those players know what they're doing with their selected starters then there's nothing to worry about if they know what to do. This isn't even about type advantages anymore, it really depends on how you use the starters in your journey.
Killalox123 Same just prefer infernape. Sinnoh was literally the only region where I liked every starter its just that infernape was my favorite out of them
Torterra can do very well against flint, so long as torterra is faster (EQ + Crunch = supereffective on all save lopunny). The issue is, it's speed is kinda low so that's not easy.
I remember someone traded me an Infernape with Close Combat when I was in the middle of my Diamond version. The rest of the game was a breeze thanks to him
They are all great, but Infernape (apart from being my favorite starter of them all, with Greninja a close second), is just a cut above. It deals reasonable well against its weaknesses due to the good speed stat, can sweep through teams with the offensive stats, whichever you prefer to focus on. It can't tank many hits, but that's not really its forte, so I'm not too worried about that. Overall, I've never regretted picking Chimchar and i'm sure a lot of people would agree :)
Empoleon's steel typing may give it two extra weaknesses, but in fourth gen steel was still super op defensively, resisting bug, dark, dragon, flying, ghost, grass, ice, normal, psychic rock, and steel. c'mon guys.
ikr plus empoleons defense/spec. defense? it's a tank. all you have to do is give it an air balloon so ground types don't affect it and you're set to wipe teams out
Idk I always had the easiest time with Torterra. Please put move sets into account next time. Torterra makes up for fire weakness with earthquake and it can learn stone edge for flying types. Earthquake also helps with ice types
In order to make use of those moves he hast to survive the first hit... each time. He'll get one, maybe two at the most before going down, whereas Infernape and even Empoleon sometimes can sweep entire teams. He's not bad, he just doesn't have the speed required to counter his weaknesses.
I already knew Infernape won before the video started because it’s the only starter in Sinnoh to counter its instant weakness. Empoleon. While Empoleon has the water advantage, it’s part Steel type. That’s what makes Empoleon bad. Infernape is (another) Fire Fighting, and Steel < Fighting. It was obvious Turtwig wouldn’t win, so that was instantly ruled out, for obvious reasons. While I like Turtwig, it IS the worst starter choice stat wise...so.... Anyways, I was surprised this reason wasn’t included in the video. Perhaps this was just obvious, but I’d like to point this out. Guess that’s it, then. Thanks for reading!
Torterra can one hit K0 an infernape with a single earthquake. If torterra can tank infernapes first attack, its goodbye to infernape. Empoleon isnt even a question in this
TheStarlitUmbreon you're an idiot you're only comparing empoleon to infernape and you said empoleon is bad because if it's STEEL typing with it's steel typing it loses both of its water weeknesses and only has it's steel weaknesses and has tones of resistances so how the fuck does the steel typing make it bad??
Fire type starters are my favorite Incineroar being the best Gen 1- Charizard Gen 2- Typhlosion Gen 3- Blaziken Gen 4- Infernape Gen 5- Emboar Gen 6- Dolphox Gen 7- Incineroar
+Sean Sorce Yeah Samurott looks and is amazing, Serperior is nice cos's you can tutor him aqua tail but kinda lacks the power and Emboar can feck right off.
The problem with Torterra is that it's really limited in the good grass type attacks it can use. Grass is based around Special attack and there isn't much for physical attackers. Torterra does learn an amazing STAB move in Earthquake and another amazing coverage move in Crunch, both of which will really help against Flint and Lucian. I think Empoleon has the best all-around advantages in-game while Infernape has the biggest movepool. You don't really need a fire type in Sinnoh since there are so many good flying types, not to mention the fact that some of the Bronzongs have Heatproof and thus only take normal damage from Flamethrower.
I knew my favorite Pokemon would be the best it is used more in competitive play than the others and it is freaking awesome! So yeah, Infernape#1 bi***es!

Ascended Dialga also, you can catch houndour in platinum prior to national pokedex but not prior too fantina.
All starters should receive a secondary typing upon fully evolving. At the end of the day, I really like creating a team around Torterra.
One point you forgot about Empoleon is that if you evolve it to Empoleon at level 36, Maylene is a problem. I've had that experience. One thing that can be a saving grace for Empoleon is it learning Drill Peck (Flying move) but I use Chimchar more.
My best Infernape's moves is U-Turn (Bug), Flamethrower, Rock Slide and Focus Blast (Fighting).
empoleon resist 10 types which is very versatile for speed run overleveled starter tactics
I chose Torterra and I managed to beat all of the gyms and finished the game, but I also had a strong team for my Sinnoh team ,so........
Dil pickle yes statistacally there is
Yeah i've played through with the starters and I somehow have better luck with torterra.
@Golin punch shut up
@Golin punch pussy
@Golin punch your cringe kid
I chose turtwig because I like turtles
docileplanet 808 same here for same reason. I like turtles.
Turtwig is based off a tortoise, not a turtle.
If you want a turtle Pokemon choose squirrel not turtwig
Everyone loves turtles
Celestia Ludenberg I appreciate your correction on this because I own a tortoise and too often they're called turtles
Piplup is actually my favorite starter in the Sinnoh League.
Sure I know Empoleon has a weakness to fighting and ground, but those I usually let staraptor handle those types which was always my second strongest.
empoleon resist 10 types tho
@@richard35791 Also takes neutral damage from grass and is immune to poison.
@@michaelmurray8134 and i dont understand bullshit like adamant or modest nature for empoleon, for me any speed debuff is the best for empoleon especially relaxed and quiet
@@richard35791 Empoleon Stands out more as a special attacker. I'm not Completely sure how the nature's work But they somehow have an effect on on a particular stat on a pokemon.
@@michaelmurray8134 no, 86 base attack stat is a waste to not use it, waterfall and drill peck is nice aginst weak defnse team such as espeon, alakazam, houndoom, flareon,

I DONT CARE OF FUCKING MR.ASSHOLEBURN TURNS INTO MALE JYNX
antoine de hengst mine too #teaminfernape
Tom Berntsen what?
I may of chose turtwig, but I win, why? BECAUSE TORTERRA GETS EARTHQUAKE!
For anyone curious about the math chimchar had 57 points, piplup had 54, and turtwig had 52.
Jason Matiteeb thx
Also, in Diamond and Pearl, if you don't pick chimchar your only option for fire is ponyta/rapidash.
they fixed it in platinum
Or Houndoom. Or Flareon. LOL
+Nova Pulse flareon is shit
+molested child true but it's still a fire option
though you don't need fire.
This was cool can't wait for unova .i would still pick emopleon even if there is a remake
YEEEEESSSS!🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
I bet unova's best starter is serperior
+HHHGREG B emboar trash
+HHHGREG B how?!?!??
All the Unova starters are trash to be honest.
Thanks. This is the hardest choice in the entirety of the series.
For me, there was no best, I loved all three.

Piplups one of my favourite Pokémon

I think there is no best starter because with a good team every starter can rekt everything!!!
finally someone is smart, I think they are all good
Pedro Saabedra yeah they're all good but there is a best one in DP you have only Infernape or Rapidash
Team Torterra
Torterra, Rapidash, Floatzel, Staraptor, Magenzone, Lucario/Drapion (if you can wait), (Alternatives: Flareon?, Gyarados, Gastrodon, Octilerry, Floatzel, Drifblim, Honchkrow, Luxray, Glaceon)
Team Infernape
Infernape, Roserade, Gastrodon, Staraptor, Magnezone, Espeon or Garchomp (Alternatives: Abomasnow, Leafeon, Gyarados, Gastrodon, Octilerry, Floatzel, Drifblim, Honchkrow, Luxray, Mamoswine, Gliscor, Drapion)
Team Empoleon
Empoleon, Rapidash, Roserade, Garchomp, Staraptor, Magnezone (Alternatives: Leafeon, Abomasnow, Drifblim, Honchkrow, Luxray, Mamoswine, Gliscor, Drapion, Lucario, Espeon)
Torterra will forever be my favorite starter Pokemon! :)
The Piplup line is, has been, and will always remain my favorite of the Gen 4 starters!
Torterra is a badass Pokemon
sure but not as badass as infernape
+William Greene true
William Greene i like both infernape and torterra
Killalox123 Same just prefer infernape. Sinnoh was literally the only region where I liked every starter its just that infernape was my favorite out of them
I actually used tortera to sweep flint's team in platinum with earthwuake
no joke
close combat lowers his defense and attack (probably his most important stat) while earthquake doesn't have any negative effects.
-1 def stage, -1 atk stage, idiot.
eryizo don't you mean torterra is torterrable?
D10 Raging Mountain and I can sweep Bertha with Giga Drain and Earthquake. 2/5 Elite Four and Champion isn't so elite afterall XD
Torterra can do very well against flint, so long as torterra is faster (EQ + Crunch = supereffective on all save lopunny). The issue is, it's speed is kinda low so that's not easy.
Totoally Chimchar! He's the best!
Totally*
I’m really interested in playing Pokemon Diamond so, I’m real glad I have this video to reference. Thank you!!
I remember someone traded me an Infernape with Close Combat when I was in the middle of my Diamond version. The rest of the game was a breeze thanks to him
Infernape for life
I guess you could say it's
TORTERRABLE
damnit people have already made that joke

Ayyyyyyyyyyyyy
YES
Hey, for all of you playing Platinum, here’s a decent team;
• Infernape
• Staraptor
• Luxray
• Floatzel
• Garchomp
• Leafeon (yes I’m serious)
Infernape is my favorite starter.

+Charles The Unicorn #earthquaked
+oryx ryox earthquake one shots it XD
They are all great, but Infernape (apart from being my favorite starter of them all, with Greninja a close second), is just a cut above. It deals reasonable well against its weaknesses due to the good speed stat, can sweep through teams with the offensive stats, whichever you prefer to focus on. It can't tank many hits, but that's not really its forte, so I'm not too worried about that. Overall, I've never regretted picking Chimchar and i'm sure a lot of people would agree :)
At first I didn't really care for empoleon but now ive grown to love and utilized all three starters
Empoleon's steel typing may give it two extra weaknesses, but in fourth gen steel was still super op defensively, resisting bug, dark, dragon, flying, ghost, grass, ice, normal, psychic rock, and steel. c'mon guys.
ikr plus empoleons defense/spec. defense? it's a tank. all you have to do is give it an air balloon so ground types don't affect it and you're set to wipe teams out
yeah empoleon rocks sinnoh
Empoleon against both other starters is the worst choice. Like they said its weak to fighting and ground, the secondary types of the other two.
Empoleon have more speed than torterra and can learn ice beam... So... Well, torterra isn't a problem at all
Empoleon has a weakness to both of the other starters
Eryzio, I don't mean to be rude, but your intros are a bit too long.. no offense, just constructive criticism :)
SuperSaiyanSimon I like your constructive criticism.
SuperSaiyanSimon and this one he made it super weird
Yeah i dont like his intro either
you are right, i agree.
Simon Kidane it might be to get that 10 minute video extra ad revenue
I still say piplup is the best
Star Fox yay piplup squad!!!!
Star Fox same!
Me too
My favorite was Piplup. I always kept it balanced with water, flying, ice and steel moves. They helped cover his weaknesses, well most of them anyway.
when your all time favorite pokemon is the best :')
Same :)
Same
Yes Chimchar!
Ikr
+XenonLoomin but it is
Idk I always had the easiest time with Torterra. Please put move sets into account next time. Torterra makes up for fire weakness with earthquake and it can learn stone edge for flying types. Earthquake also helps with ice types
ikr
By their logic, a pokemon is only useful with high offense and STAB Super Effective moves
Stone edge does more than earthquake though
torterra is too slow so the Ice types would annihilate him before it has a chance to attack
Empoleon isnt even a question in this
Steel is a bad example since it's weak to fire
TheStarlitUmbreon you're an idiot you're only comparing empoleon to infernape and you said empoleon is bad because if it's STEEL typing with it's steel typing it loses both of its water weeknesses and only has it's steel weaknesses and has tones of resistances so how the fuck does the steel typing make it bad??
Yeah but steel resists grass and almost everything
@@kophoenix9486 no shit I don't see how it's a bad type
I like this derpy intro better than the regular one =D
Fire type starters are my favorite
Incineroar being the best
Gen 1- Charizard
Gen 2- Typhlosion
Gen 3- Blaziken
Gen 4- Infernape
Gen 5- Emboar
Gen 6- Dolphox
Gen 7- Incineroar
I crushed gen 5 with emboar, tried with the others.... walled by the elite four.
L A M E
delphox is awful
Gen 6 best starter is greninja
Sinnoh: no fire types
Magmar: Am i a joke to you?
Effectively..
Well technically magmortar was introduced in platinum because majority of the sinnoh evolutions weren’t in d and p and maybe magmar was a post game
It's ok Turtwig, I still love you!
*uck no
Fellow torterra fans, if you give your torterra a yache berry or quick claw you will be fine trust me
Next thing you know they'll be saying that Tepig is the best Unova starter...
Oshawott is the best in my opinion
Snivy is bae for me :3
Lol obvs cuz it is
+Sean Sorce Yeah Samurott looks and is amazing, Serperior is nice cos's you can tutor him aqua tail but kinda lacks the power and Emboar can feck right off.
Reptilian Warrior Who's stupid?
Am I the only one who's favourite Legendary is Giritina?
nah i used to like it until mega rayquaza hit me
Giratina is the only legendary I actually like to use.
Busterman64 :-)
Nope
Giratina is actually my fucking life.
Sinnoh is amazing. However, I like all regions.
Love to see a part 2 of the gen 4 starters now that Shinning Pearl and Brilliant Diamond are out.
There is literally no difference aside from new moves and typings
"Is that a grass joke? Because I AM MEXICAN!?"
Who else is here after seeing the diamond and pearl remake
well he ain’t gonna do it anymore. so hopefully someone else picks it up
who's here because of brilliant diamond and shining pearl??
Me

Empoleon was my starter in Platinum and was my 1st Pokemon :)
Turtwig is still my fave and I chose him, he's my bby and he wrecks ass.
He's tor-terrible lololol... ill see myself out now
Romeo Gabriel NO. Just no.
jade wesman ;)
Same, he's my nuzlocke hero (RIP Link 2016-2016)
