      X100v is easier to get on the used market if you still want the Fuji. Or xt5 is the same camera without many of the shortcomings.

  • @WhatThePheel
    @WhatThePheel หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    What are people expecting? Anyone who complains about the extra cost of accessories, I mean what do you want? Do other cameras come with a grip or lens hood or battery charger, and extra batteries? I mean if you buy lets say a sony a7iv which is $2500 just for the body, it comes with absolutely nothing. You buy a sony lens for 1k+ of course it comes with a lens hood, but you've spent over $3500 now. Not to mention having to buy an additional nd filter. Also, sure some cameras are "weather sealed" but if you're not buying the $1-2k+ range lens and buying cheap couple hundred dollar lens, they are not weather sealed so it's pointless..
    People need to understand this is a secondary camera, that compliments your main camera. If you're hoping to get this because of the social media hype, you're already in the wrong market from the beginning.

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can buy cameras as a "kit" with a kit lens: they have good enough grips to hold the camera, long enough battery not to require spares to get through a day of photo taking, weather sealing as standard, ability to add filters without extra accessories, a lens hood, etc, etc. When did you ever need to buy an accessory in order to be able to use your existing filters? - that's something valid to mention.
      That's the thing, most reviews make it look like it's a great primary camera to do everything, that's just not the case, it's an accessory for your existing camera :)

    • @WhatThePheel
      @WhatThePheel หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DigiDriftZone That's the thing most reviewers do not understand what this camera is for, it is a hobbyist b roll / travel compact.
      Once again, a camera that has those specs with the "kit lens" will range you over $2500. Not to mention terrible glass for kit lens, unless you op for the above $3000 kits. So would you rather spend $1600 + $200 worth of accessories or $2500+? Why do people not understand this? If this camera is anyone's first "high" end camera, buy something else. You don't understand it, and don't need it.
      I get that most cameras come weather sealed. But did you know that if you buy a lens that isn't weather sealed it's self. It literally will get damaged? So buy a $50 weather seal kit or a $800+ lens that's weather sealed?

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@WhatThePheel I agree for the most part but let me push back about price. For example, X-S20 with 18-55 f/2.8-4 kit lens (much better lens in my opinion) is £1.3k on e-infin, an X-100VI is £2.1k. Replace the kit lens with something like a 27mm pancake that is weather resistant and you can bring the price even slightly lower. It will be just as compact for all intents and purposes and solves nearly all the problems with the X100VI: better battery, better grip, weather sealing (or great flexibility), ability to use filters, much better for video, etc, etc, etc. But it won't have the retro dials and won't look quite as pretty :)

    • @WhatThePheel
      @WhatThePheel หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@DigiDriftZone So we are basing this on the specs that match the x100vi. Of course there would be plenty of options out there with lower specs for a cheaper price. You keep pointing out not being able to use filters, the weather sealing kit can be used with any 49mm filter. It does not require you to use an UV filter to be weather sealed, you can use any 49mm filter for the weather sealing. Also what filter are you using when it has built in ND?
      Not sure where you are getting your prices from but the X-S20 is on B&H for $1299 and if you plan on getting the 27mm it adds an additional $399 USD so your total would be $1700 before tax, compared to $1599 USD before tax for the x100vi, so it comes pretty close. But on a second note, if you were to actually get a camera with the same specs than it would be the XT5. The XT5 is $1699 USD + $399 USD for the 27mm = $2100 USD. I guess it's all about preferences of what people view as value. If you are a novice photographer, definitely pick up something under $1000 that has interchangeable lens. If you already have a camera with a plethora of lens, than this would be a great compact travel camera and b-roll camera.

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@WhatThePheel I would question the "lower spec", it's the same processor, same 6.2k but less crop actually, better preamps, better (and articulating) LCD, much better battery, better IBIS, better EVF (though not a hybrid one) and it is interchangeable lenses. Also in dynamic range testing, the XTrans4 sensor gives significantly less noise across the board, has more dynamic range and has advantages in low light. Plus with the ancient lens on the X100VI the practical difference in resolution is barely visible and only at higher F stops.
      I'm in the UK, I can't speak to US prices, both the XT5 and X-S20 kits are cheaper than the X100VI making them far more attractive options and the X-S20 is virtually the same size with a pancake lens.

    Is the autofocus audible through internal mics when recording video?

  • @thehotdoglover
    @thehotdoglover หลายเดือนก่อน

    Best option I've found for doing video on Fuji with a loud lens (and internal mic), is to use AF-S and focus with the shutter button as needed. You can also manual focus in this mode but not with focus peaking, which is a downside of how Fujis are set up. On Sony you can assign a button to intantly autofocus from within MF mode, but not Fuji AFAIK.
    If you do it like this at least the lens isn't hunting and making tons of noise.

    Thank you! This was so helpful! The lens noise is probably the dumbest reason to pass on this camera, but it was one of the reason I returned the SX-20 with the 27mm lens combo. That lens is so loud, it reminded me of the old Canon 50mm 1.8 from 15 years ago. I could not wrap my head around why it has to be so loud in 2024. The fact the x100vi has the same issue makes me think twice about pulling the trigger. Its also a bummer that the recipes take so long to save to the SD card, that was something I ran into with the SX-20. Sigh. Its still a beautiful camera.

    As far as video goes, put it on a gimbal and call it a day. That's where this camera shines. I love how you can assign the ND filter to a button so you can go from indoors to outdoors without cranking the shutter. I think most video guys will use an external audio recorder and use the cameras built in audio as a scratch track but if I wanted to go direct in cam, a 3.5 to 2.5 cables is like 7 dollars which is pretty cheap. I agree, the lack of battery charger is annoying but other brands are sadly doing this as well like the Sony A73, A7C, A6700, Lumix S5-2, Nikon Zf etc..

    I have the camera now for 25 Days and can back up all the things you said. Glad a big youtuber saying these shortcomings.
    I would add:
    --> the Silver AR-100 Adapter dosen´t have the same silver color (40€..)
    --> the door to the Input/Output feels cheep, charging thru it you should be careful, camera will only charge while you don´t use it (Adapter 46€)
    --> the Joystick feels cheep and pointy
    --> Shutter release you have to get used to
    --> you have Crop modes but the picture degrade very fast
    --> you cant turn off EVF completely, when you press on Play or you are in the options(wrench slot) the EVF will close the OVF
    --> Canon R6 with Sigma 35 1.4 (yes Full Frame, 20Mp), is by far sharper, i rather blow up the 20mp file of the R6 than crop in on the 40mp of the X100VI
    --> Printing pictures form X100VI to Instax Wide printer don´t work
    Tips/Info:
    -> for sharper Jepg /HEIF turn High ISO NR to -4, even on 0 there will be noise reduction applied
    -> for faster focus, you can put the camera in boost mode
    -> if you start to think about adding a Grip, go try the XT5, there are nice lenses
    -> you can transfer the pictures (not Raw) via Wlan, its fast, but you can´t theathershoot with Wlan
    That said, I enjoy photographing with the X100VI, but it is defiantly not worth an over price.
    There is a lot to love about the camera. People acting different when pointing the small camera on them, than the R6. I will keep it. It´s perfect 2nd camera to share around, people have fun taking pictures with it. And for an every day cam it´s great. For paid work i use the Canon R6 with good glass. Just know what you need for what job.

      I have one that I ordered on day 1. I have purposely not used it whilst assessing its use case for me, as the dealer will take it back into stock unused. I agree with all your points on extras having spent a lot getting filters, thumb grips, extra batteries etc from Amazon. So far here in the U.K. it has all added up to £1850 and no protective case as yet.
      I had a great chat with another Fuji dealer on Friday who is also a studio photographer using Fuji G series. I explained I wanted a high quality small(er) camera than my pro Canon DSLR kit with some weatherproofing and versatility including 4K. He straightaway said send the X100VI back and invest in a Fuji XT-5 and either a pro level prime like the 16/2.8 or the 23/2 to start or one the excellent kit zooms, the 18-55 being the most compact. Fuji publish a useful list of their lenses capable of getting the optimum out of the sensor. A lot of their compact primes do and are significantly cheaper and more weatherproof than the Canon equivalents.
      On the other hand I may just stick with my much loved and well used EOS M3,5 and set of Canon M lenses. The Canon UI is just superb and Canon RAW an industry standard.
      For a laugh I the other day I used the M to EF adapter on my M5 with the excellent EF 70-300 mk2 and it all worked, lightening fast focus, IS, and gave me a 480mm f5.6 readout. No 4K, weather sealing, recipes etc but great quality for the sensor. Not well balanced but functional…..

    I’m actually finding autofocus in any mode to be quite horrible. Whilst the green boxes that you see may indicate that the camera has acquired focus and locked on to the subject, closer inspection of the images after the fact show otherwise. I’m left with many of my images mostly front focused, resulting in soft and blurry images which is an absolute deal breaker for me.
    I’m really hoping that this is something that is happening to everyone else too because that would at least tell me that it isn’t a QC issue with my camera and will be something that FUJIFILM can fix in a firmware update.
    Additionally, I don’t think this lens is actually resolving the full 40MP of this sensor. I’m finding that even with those photos where focus is good, the resolution does not seem to be 40MP. I think the lens is this camera’s biggest bottleneck to truly getting the best of this sensor.

This is a photography camera first. Some would prefer if there wasn’t any video in this body. Fair enough. The video is probably good enough for clips. Why the 2.5mm audio jac? Just to piss us off. At least there is an audio jac. Love my Panasonic GX9. No audio jac. Why?
    I want a small and lightweight camera to schlep all day for street photography. The X100VI is good choice for me. I’m not spending $6k for a Q3. The difference between the price of the Q3 and X100VI can be used for the additional items you mentioned for the VI. Also consider that there are items you may want to purchase for your Q3. All those items include the Leica premium.
    I preordered at B&H @0900 EST. The B&H credit card wasn’t accepted with my initial attempt to preorder the camera so I required assistance from a carbon based life form. That cost me hours and placed me at the bottom of the line waiting for this camera. I’ve waited over a year for the X100V and I’m still waiting. I should receive my body within a year or two. Maybe longer. Glad I have others cameras to use until the VI allegedly arrives. How did you receive your body so quickly?

      For something hyped and over-ordered like this, I always find it’s good to have a relationship with a local camera shop and order with them. They’re get much smaller shipments, but you’re competing with tens of people instead of thousands or tens of thousands

      A base iphone 15 is better for clips imho, better sound quality, better stabilization, my limited experience so far, and I was hoping the x100vi would be a step up in that regard from my venerable x-t30.

    I hope ppl now give up on charger, it became new normal that all companies dont put charger with box, camera or Phones. It was old time thing already now

      No chargers on a phone is much different than a camera. You can’t take the phone battery out to charge it separately

      Having a charger means that you can charge one battery while using the camera with another. I don't like leaving my expensive camera out to charge.

      Pretty obvious the OP is referring to the lack of a charging plug/adapter that are no longer supplied with phones.

    If you don't even mention or prove that you know how to use the leaf shutter, this camera is not for you. I think old school photgraphers who know how to use daytime flash, street shooters, (people don't notice this camera), and someone who uses it as a second will love it. Not impressed, waste of time.

    One other warning is that it is popular as hell and soon social media will be filled with cringy film simulations. Enjoy your x100hype, camera for the masses, made in china.

    - No camera will automatically make your photos better.
    - Not all cameras come with what you need like battery charger, just get a battery pack and charge on the go.
    - The lens hood is not needed it’s up to you.
    - many cameras lack grip like the Nikon Zf that costs more
    - lens sound is fine when taking stills, when using video, just manual focus
    - film recipe works faster with a faster ssd card
    - no one buys this to make movies 😅
    - yeh the 2.5 audio sucks but again not a video focused camera
    -
    It’s an amazing camera, fun to use too.

    Guys Fuji was always a hype camera among people who didn't have the money to buy a proper one. This camera is just like a fake Rolex, in this case a fake Leica Q3 that it never reaches. Poor people like to fool themselves. Just bye a Canon, Nikon or a Sony for half the price and you get a better one.

    No no... All the things you mention are part of what this camera is. This is like judging a Ferrari on its ability to transport a group of people. I am not a Fuji fanboy but these reviews are confusing new photographers. Take the right tool for the job. Don't bitch on the screwdriver for it not being able to hammer nails with 🤪

    Canceled my order yesterday. This is actually a shitty camera, might as well get the latest iphone. Went with something much better.
