It's a beautiful fall day, and I'm exploring the New York Central Adirondack Divison from Childwold Station to Tupper Lake. I begin by sharing some of the history and mystery surrounding Childwold Station, with the help of Grasse River Railroad expert Andy Estep. We relocate to the site of the Piercefield depot to film Extra 2042 North, Adirondack Railroad's inaugural High Peaks Limited, a one-of-a-kind train running from Utica to Tupper Lake, the longest scenic ride in the east.
We relocate to the Tupper Lake Station, where I'm joined by Josh Wingler of ‪@ChamplainValleyRailSnapshots‬. We watch the ADIX crew complete the runaround, discuss the future of the railroad's operations, and get a quick tour of the 2042 and the dome car before the departure.
We relocate once more to Childwold Station/Mount Arab Road to watch the train fly south, with RS18u 1845 leading long hood forward.
This marks the first time a Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern locomotive visited Tupper Lake.

Nice to see a train running to Tupper Lake. Five years ago, there was nothing there to see!

As someone who has visited the Tupper Lake station area every year since 2017, I can indeed confirm this is true.

    • @611Anime

The railroad tracks between Tupper Lake and Lake Placid got ripped up in 2020 and 2021.

I don't think you know a real train going by feels like....🙄

I drive across the northeast in search of “real trains”… had I been informed on the ballast trains, I would have come. Unfortunately, no one seems to let me or anyone else know what’s going on.

lndeed somewhere around $22 million dollars was spent rejuvenating that line in the last 2 years or so. 84 miles of track refurbished. l rode it to Beaver River and can attest to its safety and smoothness.
