  • Utica NY's Union Station serves as Adirondack Railroad's southern terminus. Built by New York Central in 1914, Union Station is 417 ft above sea level. The railroad's northern terminus is Tupper Lake, 108 miles distant. Tupper Lake's Depot is 1559 ft above sea level. Between these two points lies the line's summit in Big Moose coming in at 2040 feet, a gain in elevation of 1623 feet over roughly 63 miles.
This video offers glimpses of the tourist hauler's Oct 22, 2023 Utica-Tupper Lake train on Remsen Hill,, crossing Remsen's Prospect Street, blasting past the old station in Woodgate and, finally, up and over the line's summit on Big Moose Hill.

My wife and I were on the train. It took an hour and twenty minutes to go from Thendara to Big Moose Station. Very slow. I spotted you with your dog filming near the Summit. My camera was off and I couldn’t get a shot of you.

We were on the train too, from Thendara to Tupper Lake. Our Grandson “North Country Trains” met us and videotaped the arrival. 🚂

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🛤🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂 and the Atomic Train movie 🎥🎬📀 but is glad that it was just a movie and what happened in the plot didn't happen in real life.

Smoke! That second engine really needs a rebuild (even if it's great to repel mosquitoes in the summer).

Hopefully you do not have pneumonia as that looks just plain miserable. The rain at 40 degrees is bad enough but freezing rain yuck. No doubt the crew tells the passengers to turn to the right and you'll see a black bear cub laying in the woods. Well I'm sure there are some homes here and there you get that feeling it's like when they built it was just nature as your company. In better weather I'm sure it's a really fun trip but the Alco power dug in even if it did smoke like the unit in Planes Trains and Automobiles. So from Milwaukee we're glad you were energetic and that Bitold stayed awake. No doubt an evening by the fireplace felt a lot better

"We are out here in the freezing rain" so that the rest of us can enjoy. That's above and beyond.
P.s. Does Witold get excited about anything, I loved the way he sat and watched the passing train.
Andy in the UK (also wet).

Witold get excited upon: 1. Seeing the mailman, 2. spying a cat, 3. seeing a skateboarder pass by and 4. realizing its chow time.

@@railroadingrambler218 Wonderful, please give him an extra ration of his favourite option 4 for the rest of us. I agree with him on 1, 2 and 4. Rarely see number 3. The Postman (i am in the UK) if he is bringing train stuff, I chase cats from the garden as they are invariably about to make a mess, and number 4 requires no explanation.

A very interesting story about this railway. The locations for filming are great, the train and the very autumnal landscapes, as well as your dog Witold always by your side. A fantastic old train station building. A very unusual name for a restaurant BIG MOOSE STATION. But an excellent video. Thanks for showing it and best regards from Germany

Although there were many empty seats, there were approximately 150 passengers. The fact that this trip was scheduled on just a few weeks’ notice (following completion of washout repairs which took several weeks to complete) likely suppressed the passenger count.
