    The tailings sitting at the old National Lead mine at the end of the line are full of Rare Earth Elements, and they are very valuable.
    If an international mining company like XY Minerals were to invest in replacement of the line from Saratoga CPC-38 to the end of the line. And lease or buy 4 locomotives and 400 gondola cars they could have daily service from the mine to the Saratoga or MOH yard.
    There are companies that want those rare earth minerals
    They were loading trucks and getting the loads that way. But it is so slow
    Having a belt and hopper loader that they can pull cars under and load continuously makes sense
    The demand might be higher than that if a steady stream of trains can come up and down at speed
    If they could do 40 mph the whole way, they could really pull a lot out
    There is at least 10 years worth of material up there running 4 trains a day out of there
    SNC couldn't keep the engines running and didn't invest the money to replace the line.
    A multi national company is needed to get the job done

    Good Lord Harrison, this is the best you've ever done! This video's broadcast quality, no doubt about it! Maybe not commercial broadcast but definately something a local PBS station might be interested in.
    This calls for its own thread on the "Trains" Forum, don't tack it on to an existing one where it'll get "lost in the crowd."
    Two more things. Wow, Alco diesel engines really DO sound like they need a tune-up!
    And Corey's right, certain places and artifacts can be like time machines, pulling you back into their own era if you give them half a chance. I've felt the "vibe" myself on more than one occasion.
    Well done man, well done indeed! I'm proud of you!
    And congratulations on 1,000 subscribers! I knew you'd get there! Now, onward to the next 1,000!

    Excellent video in every respect: scenery, action, interviews, music. It’s those childhood experiences watching trains that can make one a railfan for life. Even a railroad employee! I grew up watching the New Haven, mostly along the NHRR’s Shore Line in Old Saybrook. The old scenic railroads really make the past come alive. Well done! And congratulations on reaching 1,000 subscribers 👍

    I'm Blown Away Harrison you're commentary espouses what many of us feel. I don't have quite that connection but I've got about that connection with steam engines and early Alcoa diesels since we've got two S-2's and an RSD-1 here at the north Alabama railroad museum, my local pull back in time. And you're right, it's there in the coaches and the idol of the ALCO Prime movers when you're standing in the cab. My moment for that was last year when they did the Christmas runs and to see it at 11:00 at night with the locomotive lights on and just the surreal blackish gold Hue background in the sky was what did it for me. And obviously we would all like to see the entire line back into a service but just be glad all of it's left there instead of the Same Old Situation where a trail group gets a hold of it because once that happens we all know it is never coming back. Also just a thought, but this video is good enough that you wanted to start something to foster a relationship between the tourist railroad and Revolution rail, I can easily see that being a major contributor and launching point to help get Excursion service restored back to what it was. Again, loving how you can put into words why we love this old stuff and love maintaining it and modeling it. Keep up the railroading and keep the content coming, the Corey's point you guys are the Next Generation and you're going to be the voice to help save some of these lines.

    Excellent Video. Back in Summer 2017 I went on the Saratoga & North Creek and I must say it was a very cool experience. Those tracks look to be in even worse shape from the last time I was up there in 2019. Good thing the SC&H and Revolution Rail are around to at least give the line a little life. I’ll be going up to the area this week and I hope to be able to make it up there to North Creek as well as other places in the area. Even though I live in Buffalo, this line is something I had a little curiosity in when I first discovered the SNC in 2016. Let’s hope someday the line can once again see trains from Saratoga all the way up to Tahawus.

    Great video, and congratulations on 1000 subs! Glad to hear that the rails are back alive on the branch, as I was seeing about visiting when they shut down in 2018. Great editing, shooting, and interviews! It’s great to hear about old lines like the branch coming back to life (makes me kinda sad that the only future for the former Maybrook line down by me is either tearing up or rusting away), and it’s especially cool seeing the branch with the knowledge I have of it now as I’m a part of the NEB&W and working to reassemble out layout, including the branch to Tahawus! Thanks for the great video, you have earned my subscription, and I look forward to more rail videos!

    What type of locomotive is #5, and what do the last two cars do? They sound like something other than passengers are in them.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure of what variety of Alco switcher #5 is, an S1 or maybe an S2? Maye an Alco fan can chime in.
      The next to last car looks like a power car, that is it's got an on-board generator to produce electricity for the passenger cars. The last car is a passenger car but it seems to me it's being used as a "shoving platform," that is a place for crew to ride when they act as "eyes" for the engineer during reverse moves. The interior of the car may not be suitable for passengers at this time. The exterior does look a bit rough.

    It's hard to see how such lines can persist without a unique draw. The Adirondack Railroad for instance would benefit from "ski / snowmobile trains" in the winter and "canoe/kayak trains in the summer (especially now open to Tupper). What would be the unique draw for this line?

    • @NorthCountryTrains
      @NorthCountryTrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that more unique trains need to be added and marketed. Hal runs wine trains, pizza trains, etc but the short and boring run makes it a challenge.
