Badass, or just so traumatized she's been reduced to an animal level of brutality right along with them? That's what I love about this show. It really makes you think about each scene. And it's stuff like this that makes the whole JUNE redemption arc with Serena in the last season make sense. They took June down to THIS level, then redeemed her by not having her steal Serena's baby and kill her. Restored her humanity.
There is a Bibical verse, horrifically ironically, in Matthew (c18 vv6), in which Christ Himself said what should happen, to paraphrase, to someone whom deliberately harms a child: "It is better that millstone be hung around their neck, and for them to be drowned in to the depths of the sea" ... I imagine that those sanctimonious pricks were thinking of that, during that execution scene in which that still young child*, and her boyfriend, had kettlebells chained to them, and where pushed off of a former High School diving board, into the deep end of the swimming pool ... ... where actually it was those same jerks whom ought to receive the actual worse punishment of a physical millstone - or something of equal mass - to push them off a boat into the deepest lake that could be found ... ... in fact, as the showrunners were not afraid of gore, rather take that butcher's knife to him, a better ending would be him, still bound and gagged, shoved into a sleeping bag, zipped up over him, and firmly tied up with belts; then a chain, attached to 45lb plates ... followed by him being dumped out at sea, somehow. You see the sleeping bag wriggle as bubbles escape from it, then stops ... finally, at enough depth, the sleeping bag imploding, crushed by the pure pressure of the water above ... [*= what makes that scene even harder to watch, for me at least, is she began reciting 1 Corinthians c13 vv4-8, which speaks of the virtues of true love, as she had for her boyfriend, and not for her husband, whom she was forced into marrying ... Unlike those Zealots, she understood the Bible, and the true grace and mercy of Christ, better than they ...]
I've only watched clips of this show on TH-cam but from what I have seen I do wonder why these actresses haven't won tons of awards for their work on this show because they are awesome in such powerful scenes, particularly Elizabeth Moss and McKenna Grace. In an interview McKenna has stated that Elizabeth is one of the best actresses that she has worked with (And let's face it she's worked with quite a few!). She said she watches her and one minute she's Elizabeth and the next she's June, literally just like that and McKenna even asked her "How do you do that?"
When I first saw this scene I thought June was disguising herself as an aunt because of the way she sounds and her Martha uniform looks similar to the Aunts.
Such a satisfying scene....but. But you can't help but have this little voice in the back of your head. You know, the one that lives in civilized society? Yes, that's normal June, the one with a husband and daughter telling a young teen to go eviscerate another person because he repeatedly raped her. What an effed up new world. You can see why no one comes out of Gilead without being totally and permanently plain old messed up.
This is the moment I realized June wasn’t going back to that red dress.

That girl (the teenage wife) is so amazing! I'm used to seeing her in Young Sheldon, but this is acting at a whole other level.
Yes she is fantastic, I worry about her acting as such a traumatized character, that has to get into one's psyche
