My betta fish "Bailey" (koi betta female) does that, betta fish are pretty smart compared to most other fish. Fish in general are smarter than they get credit for.
Yeah, I always noticed females jump higher than males, I suspect because of their light weight fins compared to those of some males (although I do have plenty of females with longer tails than males). I actually did an experiment similar to this, except with many more Bettas since I run a rescue! The highest a male jumped was about 1". I once had a female, her name was Rose, who jumped 5" (yes, that's INCHES) out of the water, and landed onto the counter! She didn't flop or freak out at all, in fact she just let me pick her up, place her right back into the tank, and she casually swam back for more 'jumpies'! Female Bettas are awesome 😊
@@saratoninASMRtist They usually will jump out of their tank if the water quality is bad like in nature during a drought they jump to another puddle for cleaner water. Or sometimes they just jump idk. Getting a proper tank with a lid and a filter could prevent this.
That's a good exercise for them. For Betta males, I've heard they recommend putting a small mirror in their tanks a few minutes maybe once a week to get them to flare their fins and exercise.

The water level and the edge of your tank is scary...for a fish that can easily jump high enough to accidently jump out. Thank you for sharing....Beautiful fish.
It's quite easy. Most relatively healthy Betta fish that I've seen irl will do this. I didn't know they would jump like this until mine sprung out while I was trying to get her attention for food. My little brother's fish, who's in an unhealthy sized crowded tank with a broken filter also did this without any food.
I have a little guy who gets way too excited over food and jumps higher than any Betta I've seen before, I actually got him because he jumped out of the tank, which was way too small and almost died, because of this his previous owner felt incapable of caring for him and decided to give him away, so I named him Trauma, I love my bouncy little guy :)
