My betta fish "Bailey" (koi betta female) does that, betta fish are pretty smart compared to most other fish. Fish in general are smarter than they get credit for.
That's a good exercise for them. For Betta males, I've heard they recommend putting a small mirror in their tanks a few minutes maybe once a week to get them to flare their fins and exercise.
Yeah, I always noticed females jump higher than males, I suspect because of their light weight fins compared to those of some males (although I do have plenty of females with longer tails than males). I actually did an experiment similar to this, except with many more Bettas since I run a rescue! The highest a male jumped was about 1". I once had a female, her name was Rose, who jumped 5" (yes, that's INCHES) out of the water, and landed onto the counter! She didn't flop or freak out at all, in fact she just let me pick her up, place her right back into the tank, and she casually swam back for more 'jumpies'! Female Bettas are awesome 😊
@@saratoninASMRtist They usually will jump out of their tank if the water quality is bad like in nature during a drought they jump to another puddle for cleaner water. Or sometimes they just jump idk. Getting a proper tank with a lid and a filter could prevent this.
Looking at it, I think she could jump higher because her fins are not for show. Male bettas have ver "extra" fins and they are. Not the best for jumping, whereas female bettas have shorter more useful fins
I've seen bettas jump out of their tanks altogether, it really depends on the individual - they all have their personality quirks ;) Beautiful footage, by the way.
@@oceanti6791 nope that's not fully true Males like to be alone So they fight with other fishes if put in the same tank So the fins are not only for looks but for also protection in these fights and you know ........ No fish predators like to eat a porcupine That is what the betta fish will exactly look like when facing a enemy because it puffs up more air inside it so it looks larger than the enemy !!!!!! The fins are also used as a deadlyier attack weapon AND THATS WHY THEY CALL IT THE MIGHTY FIGHTER FISH! but the females don't fight with other fishes so it does not have these things ! Now dont think I tested out all these things I JUST DIDN'T!
This was the most I’ve been hyped up to what you can closely call a “sporting event”. Very well done. I’m coming back next year. Where is it held? Beijing? Bet, I’m there. #TeamBetty
The water level and the edge of your tank is scary...for a fish that can easily jump high enough to accidently jump out. Thank you for sharing....Beautiful fish.
I have a red male betta around 8 months old (Ray).... And he is superb in jumping, biting my finger and following me all around the tank. The way he recognises me as soon as I enter the room and follows me makes me feel so loved. Although I never tried measuring how high he can jump but after watching the video I am gonna try out some tricks to lure him into jumping... Thnks for such s video.. The bettas were lovely ❤
Я свою рыбку петушка самку приручил немного, научил есть с пинцета. Пинцетом держать кусочек мяса улитки и она есть. Теперь когда я хожу возле стекла она всегда подплывает к стеклу))) люблю рыбок
Betty is clearly trying to tear a piece of your finger off each bite. That is like me trying to nom an elephant, by smashing my face into its knee. Lol
My betta jumped through the hole in the glass on the top of my tank.I found him on the floor. He looked awful and his colours had faded when I put him back in,I was worried he wouldnt make it,but after 3 hours he looked much better. The following day he was back to his old self.I have a Hot Wheels car parked over the hole so hopefully he cant move a Mustang.....
I got mine to jump threw a hoop. It's a shower curtain ring actually. But I placed in the tank for a couple weeks just to get her used to it then held food on one side of the ring and made her swim threw the ring to the food. I gradually lifted the ring and after a a month in a half or so she would jump threw the ring.
These fish are so clever my male. Did manage to find this little hole in the top of his little tank, jumped out and landed on the floor. Luckily I found him just before I was off too bed. He is just fine now
Betty actually hung on there for a moment lol I had a little purple female crown fin that would do that. She accidentally capsized a tiny model dinghy and spent the next few minuites trying to bring it back to the surface. Smart little things.
When I got my betta he did the same, he was jumping and bitting my empty finger. Later on I taught him to jump and take food from my finger. In few days he would jump only if I had food on my finger. So he learned that empty finger means nothing, so why would he jump? And they say memory of the fish lasts for only 3 seconds. They are very intelligent.
Simply FINTASTIC....I have never seen a Betta jump before. I am truly in awe of their strength determination. Do they bite? Do they think you are a worm?. Thank you so much.
My female is the cutest fish I've ever had. She's bold, always curious, and always hungry. She's so interested in whats going on above the water surface so Imma teach her to jump for food😉 I definitely like her more than the lazy, clumsy male.
Some people don't like the idea of this but it is actually amazing excersize, this is how the live in the wild, they need to excersize to be healthy. Plus it's always fun for us to watch 😁
Kenneth p Whoa it even happened to me once but I managed to save the fish Because you know bettas store more oxygen. so that it can breathe In emergency!🐬🐬🐬😉😉😉😉😉
Bany : touch the finger
Bety : eat the finger
Achmad Efendi 😂😂😂
No, betty bited the finger
Betty managed to not only jump higher than Banny, but would also actually bite the finger. Betty is a savage. A gloutonus savage.
Bettas are very intelligent. You can see they are thinking about whether to jump or not. They both did great!
Betty is such a savage. It looks like she's actually biting your finger.
XD IT did 😂😂😂

they really do. I have trained my betta to jump and get food from my fingers. it's like a small nibble and a kiss ❤
@@aayak8705 awww cute!

I noticed that the female would hold a better bite before releasing
That's a quality predator
And her partner/bf/husband 😏😏😏
That's a good exercise for them. For Betta males, I've heard they recommend putting a small mirror in their tanks a few minutes maybe once a week to get them to flare their fins and exercise.
When it got to Betty’s last jump I literally screamed yes and threw my arms up!! 😂😂
Betty's going for blood. She figured out that you're made of meat and she's coming for you lol
Aw how lovely. This reminds me of my three bettas I lost the past couple years. Drogon, Ruby, and Sapphire, rest in peace, my fishy friends.
The moment when you have a test tomorrow but you're cheering a female Betta Fish to jump higher..

😂😂😂😂
the fact that i am watching this video the day before my exam
I knew Betty was gonna win as soon as I saw how powerfully she struck his finger on her introduction
Betty's making females everywhere proud! Well done betty!
I love how Banny was just like, "Nah, I'm bored with this shit, where's my food?"
not only did betty jump incredibly, she landed her hits perfectly! she gave some really good bites!

Awesome as males too
yall stop comparing betty to banny, banny has feelings to y'know?
*Yas*
Me in 2005 : Imma make great accomplishments in history.
Me in 2019: -+Watching fishes jump+-
Finally, a proper competition that doesn't include fighting
Oh god the cuteness and petting is killing meeeeeeeeee! This makes me wanna pet a fish too
Banny : I can jump 2 cm high.
Betty: Hold my fish food.
Why did this pop up in everyone’s recommendations around the same time??
😏😏 cuz bettas are AWESOME!!
Betty giving your finger a little kiss after every jump
My male does the laziest flop 😂 "ok i jumped now where is the foodz?"
Same lol betta fish can be sassy as hell sometimes
I didn’t even know Betta’s could jump 😭. But how cute (Betty) 🤧💛💓💖💗

Cute video!!
Is betty biting ur finger bc it looks like she is sticking on for a few seconds
oh sangwoo probably. Females can be vicious
lol I don't think fish have teech and if they do they are probably in the back so she wouldn't be biting just sucking XD

One of the best video quality of betta fish around youtube that i came accross
Betty's a vicious little gal! But it's not a shocker that a smaller finned, smaller bodied female can jump higher than a male
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Male's longer fins are more for looks and less functionality lol.
@@oceanti6791 nope that's not fully true

So what we learnt. Betty is most likely a better athlete but Banny is smarter for realising he wasn't getting fed and conserving his energy.
hey! can you show us the whole tank? and how you set it up? I like how those floating green things look.

Wow incredible I can't believe it, I never thought that a fish could communicate with a human by jumping towards the finger incredible 😮😃👍🏻❤️
Just because Banny didn't jump, doesn't mean he can't. Important distinction to take note.
KL Rider Banny didn’t jump because he knew he couldn’t
Considering the amount of tail the males got, it makes perfect sense.
Who needs the olympics when we have Banny and Betty
My male would jump out of the tank like a dolphin. I was worried he would jump out, so I had to get a bigger tank.
Betas are the BEST. ❤
Betty: I can do this all Day
They're both so cute and beautiful.
But yet so fierce and fearless
It's because male have longer fins and it's hard for them to do activities like that
