Hey guys so I did this yesterday. Used this video and another that covered wich way to rotate to get specific slack on each side. Thus video is great but doesn't include which way to give slack to the left then right. Correct Bolts used were to pull water pump 1.75 " long m8 bolts. Some tips I learned. Buy a roll of blue shop towels and rip the down to smaller pieces and stick in the hole areas gently with a tab hanging out so you can pull them. It will catch the bolts if you drop them. On the water pump install make sure to get the top bolt in first followed by the right side. In the beginning Take out front left -no 1 coil pack and spark plug, stick something long skinny gently down and slowly rotate crank to get top dead center. The water pump black plate has a arrow engraved into it to line up TDC marking on crank. The only issue I had was taking out the hard line drain off the water pump did not release any water. Once I cracked the water pump loose then it started draining on the exterior of the block. Let it all drain and be sure to do a oil change before you crank it over. Over all this is a good video besides the missing information and rotating crank 15° right or left depending on where you want the slack. 😊
Another comment...I went to the local fastener store and bought M8 bolts to press the water pump out. Either take your new water pump with you to make sure you get the right threads. In my case, I didn't have the pump with me and just bought both thread variants of M8 bolts the fastener store had on hand. They were about 3" long and worked great!
Great video! I just did this job on a 2003 Nissan 350Z. This video was exceptionally well done and very helpful! Great camera angles and descriptions. Thank you for adding the torque specs to the narration! The demonstration on how to compress the tensioner was especially helpful. Use caution when compressing your tensioner! If it resists, then you probably don't have the lock disengaged and you will break it if you force it! Almost learned the hard way! Thank you for the video!

Wow, this is deep! I am going to really watch this about 4x, so get the confidence or just wait and spend the money with mechanic doing the timing chain get it done. Great video!
I followed these directions perfectly and even started the job with the engine in tdc. For whatever reason no matter what I do, I can't get enough slack on the timing chain to remove the old water pump.
I was bleeding out the air in my coolant sytem after refilling it from a thermostat replacement. I kept getting air in there, whenever i stop it would blow cold once i hit the gas the heat came back so i got a no spill funnells and let it run while the bubbles would come out,i was watching the game real quick while waiting for my baby to purge that air,I Fell Asleep man...woke up the next day!!!! Went out to walk my dog the next morning7am and noticed the car had been running with funnell all connected for a long while,it was on at 6pm Sun and shut it off 7am Mon....hahaha It was running beautiful after..haha im in a high crime area and was amazed that no one touched it..people steal hubcaps around here, thats how bad it is around here..all the windows down no lights on,they couldve had a fun time but god was watching my sht...
I recently changed my tensioner using this basic method and now my car runs really sluggish im worried i somehow got it out of time....... probably important for people to be aware of while doing this
Thank you bro I was able to do it. Course mine was a little more difficult than that. Mine was corroded into the timing chain assembly. Try pulling it out with the 8 mm bolts but the tabs broke that thing was stuck! Anyways Long story short I had to fabricate a puller and was able to pull it out absolutely totally corroded. Cleaned it up cars up and running Thank you for the critical info.
I really wish you would have mentioned what kind of bolt size was needed to remove the water pump to push it out because you make it assume like it's the same size as the ones used to hold the water pump into place which is not! Is actually a size bigger. And now I have a broken bolt in there and already broke several taps and have metal Shavings in engine just because it.
How did you take that out with those bolts I did that too an its still stuck what did u do cuz I know that ainy helping it push out . Do u gotta smack it with a hammer for it to free up??? I'm doin this now
2012 Infiniti M37x is this the same type of process. I scared of the timing chain part I don’t want to mess it up. I did my timing chain on my crown vic it’s a easy process. Water pump was so easy.
Not sure why the tech didnt pit the belts on BEFORE installing the rad fan. Plenty of room to get a torque wrech on without the radfan installed lol. Awesome video overall and very detailed. Thank you!
Bro what bolts are you using to pull the pump out. The ones in there are m6-1 but you didn’t say what kind of bolts are needed. Plus all you did was push it back but never show how to get the chain fully lose like that. This video wasn’t of to much help with getting this thing out
I would have gotten stuck rt when the waterpump didnt just come out once the screws were removed, and so then I would have tried to pry it out and screw something else up...hahaaa so thanks for doing this man....

By far the best auto mechanic channel.

Man, you made that look so easy. I feel like I can do it myself after watching this.

I got lost at the TDC part, how do i kno if im at TDC ?
Wow, this is deep! I am going to really watch this about 4x, so get the confidence or just wait and spend the money with mechanic doing the timing chain get it done. Great video!
Best video I have seen on the topic. All the other videos just start with the parts removed..
Best helpful video on TH-cam

Amazing video , thank you. Helped me and my buddy get this done 🙏🏾 just have to put hoses and fluids back in after this RTV sets and I’m good to go
I did it without taking the other belt tensioner off so only 1 the second is not really necessary to loosen

Need to do my water pump today. Need to go get some magnetic socket, what size bolts is there 10 and 12?
At 8:17 min you say pull back on the crank. Does that mean rotate the crank counter clockwise a little?
