Cayuga Ducks | How We Set Up Our Brooder

We added Cayuga Ducks to our homestead! In this video, we set up the brooder using a blow up pool, heat lamp, and paint tray. Cayuga ducks are black ducks the appear green in sunlight. They lay black eggs to begin the season, but the eggs fade to gray as time progresses. I'm told that duck eggs are the secret to French baking... we'll have to test that out soon! In the meantime, enjoy the ducklings as they get to know their temporary home!

Oh, I love Indian runners! Someday I hope to get some! I think this method works best with fewer ducks- we had so many that it all it could do was help contain the mess a little more!

What is the heat can it be?

Hi! We were able to keep them at the 90-95 degree temperature recommended for the first week and then bring it down 5 degrees per week until we moved them outdoors :)
