  • So my duck just started laying black eggs. What does that even mean?!? Is it an omen of bad times to come or something else? Cayuga duck time on the duck farm!

    Hey, when Toby's fur falls out in the spring, take the downy underfur and you can make stuff out of it. One time I had a hole in my boot and it was zero degrees outside - my feet were so cold! And I remember reading how shepherds take the fur of sheep and shove it in their boots. And I had my husky down and put it in my boots, no more freezing feet. Felt like a brand new pair of Ugg boots, to be honest. Also, the fur is sweat wicking - your feet will sweat, sure, but the moisture dissipates. Weird, right? Anyway, you can comb the fur into wool strands and then spin it into yarn. It's rather nifty.

    • @lilolmecj
      @lilolmecj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BlackSeranna I half wish I knew how to spin yarn, my dogs shed really soft underfur.

    • @Boredchinchilla
      @Boredchinchilla 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You can make it into yarn, but it is way too warm to make anything out of. We used Samoyed fur and made mittens that were so warm you couldn’t keep them on- and we were in Maine! We finally just used it as details on socks (the froth on a beer) and a sweater (just a fluffy dog), which made it much more useful.

    My college has a pond full of Mallards and swans that I feed peas and seeds and I love them. Unfortunately, we had to leave campus due to the coronavirus and I miss them, but I’m glad I have the quacken to keep me from having duck withdrawal. Someday after I have a steady job, I’ll make sure to get a house with a big yard so I can take care of a few ducks/geese. Thank you for sharing your farm because it has made me really fall in love with aquatic birbs.

    We have 6 Cayuga ducklings (hopefully all female!) - just hit 3 weeks old today. I know we have a while to wait for the eggs.
    We named them Dethquak (as a collective), and they have been growing so fast! I don't envy that cold weather though. It's been getting into the 80s during the day so I've been letting them forage outside under supervision. It's definitely nice to let the little stinkers out to watch them learn to swim!

    Morgan, you have a speck of dirt on your camera lens and it has been in the last several videos you have made. It looks like dirt on this end and I hope it's not sense damage.

    This is so much fun watching you work with your ducks. If this lockdown here in England continues, I may study online for a degree in farming. Heh.

    So the saying is true, “like ducks to water.” I loved seeing them get the first whiff of the pond and fly to it. They make great little icebreakers too. Nice job!

    I had two crested Cayuga Pekin mixes (siblings) and one was black and one white. The white one was absolutely tiny though, so idk how those genetics worked out

    Im heaving some of the same issues atm, due to this pandemic i want to increase the amount of chickens i have. But non of my hens seem to agree yet, im going to let my hens incubate and raise the chicks all naturally.
    The hatching period plus 1 or 2 days require extra attension, if needed i help chicks to get out of the eggshel because if they take to long they might get crushed by the hen.
    Once the chicks and hen leave the nest keep an close eye on the most dominant hen in your flock, last year i had a bad fight between the "alpha" hen and the mother hen and that had never happend before.
    Thanks for your videos and stay save all.

I have a homestead but I am worried there is not much people around where I live there is my house and barn and that is it just other houses fields and lakes. I am not sure how I will sell my eggs from my ducks. Anyone please reply for help.

    I watched a series on Netflix of organic chefs and organic farming. The farmer grew red peppers and dried them and added the pepper powder to the feed for his birds. It turned the yolks inside red. He sells them for a hefty amount to restaurants as a delicacy because the peppers add capcasin, which is a natural pain killer and anti inflammatory.
