Pretty sure he played that one close to the chest. He just used his raw charm and talent to gain fans and admirers. He was handsome, possessed a silver tongue, and was a natural at magic.
He didn’t need a sob story and he’s way too prideful to use one. Actually, it’s more because Dumbledore knows his humble origins that pisses Voldemort off. He’d rather no one found out, but Dumbledore knowing isn’t something he can do anything about.

Dumbledore knows where Voldemort came from and how much he wants to forget his former life. Dumbledore uses his real name to instantly put Tom in a less egocentric mindset. It often feels to me as if Dumbledore's relationship with Tom is one of a Step parent role. A step parent wants to help a hurt child and to teach them things, but doesn't have a neurological connection to them. The step parent can see through the manipulations, lies, and nothing Dumbledore does for the boy is good enough or that he appreciates. Tom resents any involvement. Ultimately, I think this is the closest form of a relationship that Voldemort ever had.

I suspect there was another reason. Voldemort gained much of his power through sacrifice. Sacrificing his body, his humanity, even his soul. He paid a terrible price for his power. And yet... From what I understand, Voldemort was born from a woman who used a love potion to enchant Thomas Riddle Sr., thus Voldemort was a child conceived of a loveless union based on manipulation. According to the Harry Potter fandom Wikipedia, Rowling thought that the love potion could have been what created Voldemort as someone who could never understand love. So you have a demonic child, using narcissistic traits to get what he wants, charming the whole school while manipulating behind everyone's back, all while Dumbledore acknowledges he doesn't fall for Voldemort's facade. Dumbledore is likely the conscientious that he never wanted to acknowledge, as it was a threat to what he craved for, which was ultimate power.

Every evil and negative trait you could possibly imagine he has:no feelings and an positive emotionless psychopath, cruel and sadistic, sociopath and manipulator, narcistic, arrogant, proud, blind towards other skills and powers and only focused and convinced in his invincibility. Truly no evil dark wizard ever had all this negative traits and at such profound level of evil at that. I have no sympathy or pity for him. His mother for the way she was treated probably, the way his father was treated by his brother in law and later drugged and raped by his future wife definitely but voldemort? In the Harry Potter universe Dumbledore truly pushed the boundaries of magic as a whole, but Voldemort never truly pushed the boundaries of magic and how far one can push the boundaries of magic is limited to their magical abilities and knowledge, therefore since Dumbledore's magical abilities and knowledge were greater than Voldemort's then Dumbledore could push the boundaries of magic further than Voldemort ever could.

Voldemort was the strongest in terms of raw power but all he did was use the killing curse on weaker beings who couldnt even put up a fight. He wasnt exactly a skilled duelist. Dumbledore on the other hand dueled other strong wizards in his life and knew so many tricks and rare magic that Tom wouldnt even understand. Dumbledore beat Grindelwald, owner of the elder wand using his vast magical abilities without even needing to kill him.
So yeah, Voldemort was scared that if they duel, Dumbledore would just deflect his killing curse and other dark magic for years. And at some point when Voldemort makes a tiny mistake Dumbledore would just take advantage and defeat him

Even if that's not true, that's how someone like Voldemort thinks, that's why he had to make 7 horcruxes, and made a lake full of hundreds of dead zombie muggles to protect it.
It's like his bark is worse that his bite, and his bite is very bad, but Dumbledore and Harry don't bluff, they just win.

Grindelwald was the 2nd strongest dark wizard but he isn't even comparerd to voldemort.
If voldemort had the elders wand he would easily beat Dumbledore unlike grindelwald.
What I'm saying is to clarify in the word of Harry potter, Dumbledore is overall the most powerful but voldemort was the best wizard in terms of knowledge and skill.

In a really cool way, Dumbledore also represents Death in Harry Potter. What is Voldemort's greatest fear? Death.
Edit: Perhaps I should've added that in that same context, Voldemort represents the oldest of the 3 Peverell brothers, who thought he could best Death and bragged about it, only to be taken by him in the end. Dumbledore's wand, or at least it used to be, was the Elder Wand, and it's the one that killed Voldemort. Like Death, it was Dumbledore's plan to "gift" the Elder Wand in order to lead the fool to his demise.

Pink bunny, Not even close. More like Heinrich Himmler vs. Martin Luther King Junior. Churchill and Hitler were both Anti-Semites. I mean, after all, why did the British government in WW II do nothing against the German camps when their aerial recognizance revealed them around 1940. Also, even then, why didn't they show it to the Americans until the end of the European theater long after the Americans and Soviets had discovered the camps via the ground campaigns. My point is Martin Luther King Junior was the most vocal supporter of racial equality, like how Dumbledore was the most vocal and influential supporter of magical equality, but like Luther never tried to ascend power in the government. While Voldemort, who, in my opinion, is closer to Himmler than Hitler. Himmler was the head of the SS and was the biggest supporter of German Supremacy. Just like how Voldemort was the most vocal supporter of pure-blood supremacy. Also, like Voldemort Heinrich Himmler never directly controlled the government of Nazi Germany and manipulated to get his way just like how Voldemort used the imperious curse to make the ministry do what he wants from the shadows.

By the time Voldemort fought Dumbledore he had lost considerable amounts of his soul.SOUL.That is important to magic.Soul and consciousness NOT the body.People that say Dumbledore was poisoned and old therefore magically weaker are fools.
Furthermore both Dumbledore and Voldemort have statements vs Grindlewald and those statements clearly make Voldemort the more powerful of the two.Actually in the book Voldemort would have killed Dumblodore if Fawkes(a very powerful creature that helped him) didn't get hit by the curse instead, people think Dumblodore was easily dominating but the artwork of the fight(canon) showed Dumblodore having a very strained and angry expression,it clearly portrayed him as having lots of trouble.
For me when they actually fought Dumblodore was very slightly more powerful,at the best they achieved Voldemort is very slightly more powerful. And if Dumblodore used the darkness and Voldemort could understand the most powerful magic LOVE(literally btw) then who knows?...probably Voldemort btw,he has a little more natural raw power

How many times we saw Harry thinking Dumbledore could see through him as if he was invisible? I think Voldemort felt the same thing many times during his time as a student in Hogwarts, and I'm pretty sure he hated that feeling, because he knew he could fool everyone around him except for Dumbledore, the only man who could see what he really was. I think if Voldemort doesn't mind looking like a snake is because he enjoys the fear he causes to others, and who's the only one he could never intimidate? Dumbledore even calls him "Tom", how insulting is that for someone who created a name everyone else is afraid to speak? I think he just realized he will never frighten Dumbledore as he sees him the way he is: just a poor orphan kid who used fear to bully and steal from others (this is his darkest secret, his insignificant past). And he never tried to kill Albus because he wasn't sure he could, and I think that drives him mad, as he's so arrogant!

I think you pretty much nailed it. Two things I'd like to add: Dumbledore not only ruled him in and saw through him as a child, he also saw him at his most vulnerable point in life, as the lonely orphan who didn't know anything about the wizarding world, a brat who tyrannized his fellow orphans in petty childish schemes and who gleefully jumped at the opportunity to acchieve magical power - not in control of himself, careless, exposing far to much of his true colors to the much wiser and powerful man. Dumbledore constantly reminded him of that later by refusing to use his chosen name and to adress him by his muggle name Tom, thus emphasizing that he would always see the unloved evil child in him, malicious but vulnerable.
Another reason why he didn't go for him himself in book six was that it would have been a great risk, he still was a wanted crimminal and had the ministry against him at that point and Hogwarts was highly protected. He needed someone inside Hogwarts to even get at Dumbledore and he hesitated to risk exposing himself to be possibly cornered there by Dumbledore and a buch of Aurors.

He had all the power and capabilities but Riddle born with no love or conception of love couldnt understand it. Why would the most powerful wizard remain a school teacher and not rule the world. I believe Tom even asked Dumbledore this very question when he visited the school trying to become the next defense against the dark arts teacher. He left the Ravenclaws item in the room of requirement and put a curse on the teaching position he coveted.

Possibly he didn't always do that...I suspect, up until Voldemort came along, Albus didn't use Legilimency because he felt it was invasive & can be a violation. He came to regret this choice after Voldemort rose to power. He felt/realized, if he had any idea what Tom had been planning (and, let's not forget, he likely made his first Horcrux while still at Hogwart's), he might have been able to stop him, saving hundreds of lives. That was enough to get Albus to get over his ethical concerns, and start probing just about every mind he encountered. My own theory was since Tom Riddle was conceived via love potions that it had effects on him before he was even growing in his mother’s belly. I feel like any child conceived that way will have no chance with love or empathy. In his case he came from a powerful family and thus cause more damage as he got older. I’m sure if he wasn’t conceived through many love potions that he prolly would be a different person.
I do believe he hated his former teacher purely because he could see right through him. Even Harry Potter said the same thing about Tom. Im sure calling him Tom was a way to get him flustered and angry too. You make more mistakes and loose a battle because you act hasty and overlook many things. It was a strategy to win.
Lastly with Dumbledoor, from what I recall about his own youth/past, he made some horrendous mistakes. He hurt many people. That’s why he could see through Tom. He once had that mindset for a phase of his life. Albus could have easily been a dark wizard but stopped and took a different path. Prolly why he kept tabs on Tom and wanted to help but didn’t know how since Tom was set on his path.
But that’s just my theory and how I perceived the backstory.

i don't think Voldy could beat Dumbledore (see Ministry fight Order of the Phoenix). Sending a pupil had the advantage they could get into the school and Dumbledore would not hurt a child. I think more than anything this was to test Draco and see if he was all mouth and no action (he was). Voldy doesn't seem to be the 'forgive and forget' kinda guy, so I think Lucius was never going to be treated with anything other than contempt by everyone; as he's lost Voldy's favour.

The man found him, made a connection with him immediately, told him what he was and that there was a place he could go surrounded by people just like him where he could learn to master that which made him special. I would think he'd view Dumbledore as his savior, his hero even, but instead he saw him as a threat and all because he knew he couldn't bully him or easily defeat him. I was definitely missing the fact in the video that Dumbledore was an advocate for friendly collaboration between muggles, witches&wizards, merpeople, centaurs, goblins, etc. in a society that was still rooted in the belief of the superiority of pureblood Wizards. Voldemort and his Death Eaters were Pureblood extremists but they could only come that far during the first and second war in the first place because people like Fudge and the ministry itself still valued the purity of blood so much, just think of the golden statue in the ministry of the wizard, the witch, the centaur, the goblin and the house elf or how Arthur Weasly was looked down upon by large parts of the ministry because he was so fascinated by muggles. I would also guess that stuck-up pureblood supremacists considered Dumbledore to lack a wizard's dignity because of his eccentric attitude which was in contrast to his immense power.

Yeah, it was because of the elder wand. Voldemort likely was Dumbledore's equal, but the elder wand always kept him at the advantage. Which Voldemort wasn't aware that he had the elder wand, so when they finally faced off and he failed, it made him doubt himself.
When he finally figured it out, his ego inflated even more because he finally had a reason why Dumbledore always had the advantage.
Voldemort did technically kill Dumbledore though. The curse he put on the ring was going to kill Albus no matter what. Which is the only reason Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him. It would save Draco, put Snape in Voldemorts full trust and everything could go forward as planned.
