On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-11-19.
We're looking at and taking a ride in a 1960 Chrysler 300F 2 Door Hardtop in White Paint. The car features the factory ram induction 413 CI V8 engine with 375 HP, and 495 foot pounds of torque.
The car's Owner is Noel Hastalis. Noel’s had this car since 2005. Noel’s a Director of the “Chrysler 300 Club” and shares his knowledge about the car and its history. It’s a real treat to see the unique “cross ram” intake manifold that crisscrossed gas flowing into the engine.

The instrument cluster looked great at night. My dad had a 1963 Dodge 330, which had the push-button transmission. It became the car for my older brothers and I to drive. It was a lot of fun to use, and it got a lot of comments from friends who had never heard of such a thing. The tranny selector and the heater controls were symmetrical -on the left side of the instrument panel was the transmission selector, including a vertical slide lever to engage the park brake. The temperature control on the right used the same vertical slide lever to adjust the temperature, and there was a rotary control for the fan speed. I have never seen one like it, as it appears Chrysler utilized different variations for different models (ie Polara, 440, etc). In fact, this was the car I learned to drive with in the mid-70's. Chrysler was an leader in engineering back then. Unfortunately, quality was not their strong suit. Nor were some of Virgil Exner's designs appealing to a lot of people at the time (though classic today).

Hi Michael, "The instrument cluster looked great at night." I'm so glad you said that! I was thinking how can I feature that, and then the light bulb went off....literally as we pulled it back into a dark garage :-) Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Dad's car, Lou

Great video Lou! This is my favorite year of the 300s. The boomerang tail lamps, the headlights, fins, everything. A good friend of mine owns one of these and also a 300G that she restored. Loving the astrodome speedometer! Really cool!

413 Crossram Wedge. 'Nuff said. Lou: do me a solid, & find someone w/the "Max Wedge" Polara. I still want a Hemi car, but that rumble from the 413 brought a tear to my eye...pure, unadulterated horsepower & torque. No computers, no gadgets...a car that requires your attention. Thanks, Noel for sharing this beauty, & thanks Lou for bringing it to us. I don't have a 300, but I'd like to find out more about the club.

Beautiful car!! I love the finned cars! Chevy fans talk about the “first muscle car” being a GM. They always forget the 300 was the first muscle car!! The 300M with a v6 that he scoffed at still has 300hp and weighs considerably less. So I bet I could beat him in a drag race with my 300m

This video brings back some memories. Back in the 80's there was a guy who ran a midget at Big H speedway in Houston. He had a really sharp red 300 hardtop like this and the midget was an older model with the Offy engine. When they pulled into the pits it always looked like something out of a time warp from the 60's. Can't remember the driver's name to save my life. They ran pretty strong for a couple of seasons before the newer chassis with VW power took over.

I failed to mention in this filming that, of the 9 Pont-a-Moussin 4-speed Chrysler 300-Fs produced, 5 of them ran at Daytona Speed Weeks in January 1960, and ran the fastest times on the sands of Daytona back then - fastest driver was Gregg Ziegler at 144.9 mph, from Elgin, IL A 300-F TorqueFlite , set up just like my car, ran 129+ mph. Overseeing all these runs was Chrysler Engine engineer, Burt Bouwkamp. A handful of us 300 Club members have had the privilege of meeting with Burt, now in his young 90s, the past 2 summers, and he relates the stories of that event like we were there with him today! The 4-speed cars were 400 horsepower, as compared to the 375 horsepower TorqueFlite 300-Fs, and the torque kicked in at 3,00 rpm, as compared with 495 ft lb torque at 2,800 rpm on the TorqueFlite 300-Fs.

      Lou Costabile
I've owned over 50 cars since I was 19. '55 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, '60 Thunderbird, '65 Riviera, '67 Eldorado, '68 Firebird 400, '69 Grand Prix. I'm 55 now and hunting for a '64 Grand Prix or a '64 Corvair Monza coupe with Powerglide. Whichever comes first....lol.
Although I have viewed several of your My Car Story videos, this one made me a subscriber.
It shows the beauty of the classic car without the velvet rope/Barrett Jackson/Pebble Beach overtones. There's nothing wrong with 100% factory original, Petersen Museum quality cars, however inspiration and inclusion should focus on unique models and I appreciate that you recognize and showcase these cars and their owners.
My mother bought a new, fully loaded, '65 Corvair Monza Sport Sedan. It was a soft yellow color with black bucket seat interior, AC, and Powerglide. Before selling it in '69, she had it repainted and had a black pebble grain vinyl top installed. It really made a beautiful design look sophisticated. A newlywed snapped it up the first week the ad ran. They gushed over it.
Then she ordered a new, late production model, '69 Grand Prix Model J in the '67 Chevrolet color Deep Water Blue. She added a Parchment Cordova grain vinyl top and paid extra for '70 Parchment leather interior instead of the '69 Parchment Morrokide offering. 400 HO V8, THM, PS, PB, PW. AC, Pwr Drivers Seat,Tilt, AM/FM with Verbra-Phonic rear speakers, Concentric circle PMD wheel covers.
It seemed like that car would never arrive at Van Winkle Pontiac in Dallas. I still remember the reaction from our salesman and customers when they pulled it out and started removing the plastic from the front seats upon arrival. My mouth hit the floor, she beamed, the salesman looked surprised and other people started encircling it.
In profile it had such a nautical look. The way the white sail panel on the top rose from that deep blue color made you think you were standing at the beach looking at the horizon.
Whether either car would be considered correct depends on the individual rendering the opinion, but without question, both cars, especially the GP, were strikingly handsome.
Thank you for showcasing the beauty of uniqueness.

Late one Saturday night, way back in another lifetime, my friend Mike Lacey had the brilliant idea that we take his father`s 300F out for a ride. The fact that we were still a couple years away from getting a license is probably what attracted the cop`s attention, and the chase was ON ! Mike turned onto the highway, where there were no lights for several miles, and floored it. That big 300 was like a freight train, and in an instant, the speedo was pegged. We thought we would get away, until 2 more patrol cars were waiting for us, blocking the road. I think the cops were shocked by how young we were, one said he "admired Mike`s snappy driving style" :-). Not much happened, other than Mr. Lacey being extremely pissed. We DID make the local newspaper, though...."14 year-olds outrun cops at 120 mph" was the headline....

Want to hear a story? Uncle in Lincoln Nebraska had a brand spanking new 300G I think I'm right but it was this dashboard I know. Anyhow in Fargo North Dakota there was a horrible huge tornado just tearing up the town and my we were in the basement and my uncle came running down the stairs after just making it home. His face was flushed White and he proceeded to tell us about being caught in the tornado and his Chrysler 300G (maybe different letter) was bouncing around and had no forward movement. The tornado was winning ni remember he while being held in place the the speedo was waving between 50 and 80mph. Then the car raised higher from the back like the tornado had a hold of the rear bumper. It hit the ground hard a the gas pedal went the the floor and the beast of a car oozed forward and bounced up again and then hit the ground ,he said looking in the rear view he saw what looked like 2 white ribbons going onto the tornado debris twirling behind the car that now hit the street and smoked tires a moved for 1 " 2" a foot and blast off he broke away. He bought more but one was the last VIN of the 1970 series, i ended up selling that to a friend of Lee Iacocca who was my boss.

Hi Steve - Squarish steering wheel first appeared in Chryslers in 1963 - our 1963 Newport sedan, that I learned to drive on, had one of these. Plymouths, however, started having them in 1960. Not sure why the big differences in timing between these Chrysler Corp. models. Many of the 1960 300-Fs did have power seats, but my car, seen in this video, did not come from the factory with them. Power windows were a standard feature on the 300, as were the swivel seats. You didn't see it demonstrated in this video, but the front bucket seats are mounted on Chrysler's bench seat frame, so the seats move forward and back together, not independently of each other, since so few of these bucket seat cars rolled off the assembly line! Power seats are the same way. And the Chrysler record players - I think the play speed was actually a slow 16 2/3 - were not available from the factory in the 300-F cars, because of the console. However, I've seen a couple 300-Fs with these record players installed by their owners. Noel

Thinking about your question - the Olds Starfire was reintroduced in 1961, the Riv in 1963. Of course Chevys with their 409s, but we'd consider those competition with the '60 Fury Sonoramic Commando (383 ram induction Plymouths). I believe Chrysler called there lite-up speedo “Lumenessance”. About the swivel seats; originally the would swivel out automatically when you opened the door and go back to driving position when you closed the door. They discontinued it when an unsuspecting drivers door accidentally opened while driving, swiveling them out the door.

What a car, nothing symbolizes American 1960 like a Chrysler 300 & you can imagine this particular car cruising down the freeways of the 60's it was just all class.
They don't build them like this anymore just class nothing but gold class well done featuring this beautiful hardtop Chrysler 300.
Can anyone tell me what was the car in a Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin movie I can't remember the title where they won a convertible Chrysler & they are driving across America to sell it with some big dog in the back a Great Dame.
Also the TV series of the 80 's call Crime Stories where the lead detective drives a Chrysler for his everyday car I think it's a 300 series Letter car .

But this 25 or so year old paint job still looks great, so I'm staying with it, and just enjoying the open road.

That thing isn't even awake at 100! 300F is my favorite 300.
