A troubadour is a French term for a travelling poet/musician. Sadly, George & his wife Norma lost their young daughter in a car accident in 1986. It's hard to believe it was 38 years ago hearing that awful news. I've been a big fan of his & felt so bad for them.
George Strait has been in county music since 1981. He is referred to as the King of country. Most country music is about life. Not so much today's country, it's more pop music recorded in Nashville

A troubadour was a composer and performer of Old Occitan lyric poetry during the High Middle Ages. Since the word troubadour is etymologically masculine, a female troubadour is usually called a trobairitz.
This track features another country legend, Vince Gill, on the background vocals. You gotta check him out. “When I Call Your Name.” His voice is smooooth.
As far back as the middle ages, it was common for musicians and singers to travel from town to town giving performances for money. In those days it might just be one guy with a lute. The troubadour would usually write his own material. You might call it the early version of today’s touring bands. Today’s musicians are looking for stardom. Back then the troubadour’s hope was to get a permanent job as a performer in the king’s court.
So many great country artist out there. My favorite Era is 90's. Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks are great. Newer '00s artists that are pretty great Zach Brown Band, Craig Morgan (what I love about Sundays is the best!!), and Brantley Gilbert. I'm really showing my age by what is consider "newer" right now 😅
