    I’ve just discovered your channel. What an incredible place this is. The wealth of knowledge and attention to detail is exemplary.
    I have a question for you, if you don’t mind? I have just purchased some Schaller M6s for my guitar. Seemingly everywhere online talks about how the original RS has “modified” Gotoh white buttons but I’m yet to find anywhere that actually describes what needs to be modified about them. Could you elaborate on what exactly it is I’m going to have to do to them to make them fit the Schallers, please?
    Thanks in advance.

      Thanks for your kind words. The small plastic pearloid buttons require the shaft bore enlarged to fit Schaller M6 locking tuners. Doing this is tiresome. To avoid tedious precision filing of the flat areas, I made a brass former the same dimensions as the Schaller tuner shafts. I heat it up with an electric heat gun then enlarge the bores by inserting it to thermoset the plastic around it.
      I swapped out the Schaller M6 locking tuners for Gotoh equivalents to avoid this and because they are a neater, less clunky design. I recommend them. The quality is just as good as Schallers.

      @@dsgbThanks for the reply. That does sound like a faff. Do you know the model number of the Gotohs you recommend? The guitar currently has Gotohs on it, however, they are self locking-ish type that don’t have the thumb wheel at the back. I’d prefer to manually lock the string as per the traditional type of locking tuners. Thanks again.

      I bought a set of Gotoh SG381-01 MG-T locking 3L/3R chrome finish tuners in August 2021 for £60 from Axes R Us in the U.K. They are currently fitted to my Red Special replica.

      @@dsgbThank you for this information. I’ve just ordered a set for £66 + p&p and I’ll return the Schallers. There’s no way in a million years I’d be able to bore those holes on the tuner buttons out, so you’ve saved me immeasurable hassle. I’m in absolute awe of the fact you’ve managed to build a replica from scratch and I love the fact you’ve made it as accurate as possible whilst incorporating modern techniques and processes. Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    Of all thongs, in lieu of commenting about the vibrato arm tip, I’m going to ask a question. Was the voice clip of Brian describing the tip of the original’s arm being made out of his mother’s knitting needle extracted from his Premiere Guitar interview from 2014?

    • @dsgb
      @dsgb  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      He mentions it in several interviews or talks in 2014 which was the 50th anniversary of the Red Special's completion. The second sound clip was taken from the Red Special book launch video.

    Said for 30 years it was a pale grey knitting needle….oh, how they all laughed 😊
