  • Ever wonder if a store-bought cookie compares to a homemade one? In this video, I put Milk Bar's Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow Cookies to the test. I snagged a bag of pre-packaged cookies from Whole Foods, baked my own batch of cookies with the recipe Christina Tosi posted online, and engaged in a taste test!

    Great review! I've read that she uses King Arther's bread flour which makes it extra important that you don't over mix it and form the gluten when you're making these. Also bread flour supposed to prevent it from spreading as much from what I understand.

      It's more of an issue if water is added.

    Tried the store bought cookies for the first time today. They were god-awful and made me sad. You're right, her store bought baked good so far have really tarnished her brand to me. Your recipe looks awesome I can't wait to try it. Thank you for making this video. It was exactly what I was looking for👍

      I just bought some and then went online almost immediately to see if anyone else thought they were as bad (possibly the worst cookie I've ever had) as I thought. Inedible.

      To be honest, they’re not much better direct from the bakery. Very disappointing.

    Excellent video Rachel!!! I have wanted to make this recipe for a long time. Like you, the comments on cookie outcomes were so uninspiring…I was afraid. Thank you so much for showing the way…I have downloaded Butter with a side of Bread’s modified recipe and will dust off the pantry ingredients and give it the old college try.

      @@eatsbyrachel baked the cookies this morning. They turned out great!! Instead of flattening the cookie dough balls before refrigeration, I flattened them with a large spoon 11 mins into their bake. As you had indicated, they are very sweet…but the cornflake crunch offsets the sweetness and adds another dimension to the cookie’s texture. Ate three cookies with a tall glass of almond milk. What a decadent breakfast😋🙃!! Thanks again Rachel for your great tips!!

    Looks really good! Thank you for doing the testing. I'm thinking about giving out some of these cookies as Christmas gifts. I was reading some of the reviews on the "Butter with a Side of Bread" recipe. Sounds like a lot of people found the recipe too salty. Would you agree? Are there any modifications you would suggest for the "Butter with a Side of Bread" recipe?

    • @eatsbyrachel
      @eatsbyrachel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! If it's too salty, definitely use unsalted butter and cut back on the use of salt (if not remove it entirely).

      In Tosi’s cookbook, Milk, she specifies that she uses bread flour in all her cookie recipes. Information is found in the ingredients chapter.

    Tossi recipe on bake club says to bake for 18 mins. God knows why??? 9 to 10 mins at 180 Celsius or 365 Fahrenheit.

    the pie was renamed to "Milk Bar Pie" due to the previous name being highly offensive, I would recommend not calling it the old name

    • @eatsbyrachel
