A bit more context from another pilot who has been in since 2016: I had a conversation with a relative at thanksgiving about drones. Here, they banned drones from flying in my city around 2020 because of one guy being a dick with his DJI crap and terrorizing a friend of the mayor. Despite all the protesting from us, they passed the ban. I was speaking to a relative about this and how unfair it is to be lumped in with this bs because of one guy who isn't even a part of our community in fpv, and they said they agreed with the ban! "I don't want some stranger looking at me while I'm in my backyard, or whatever." I tried to detail the difference between what I do and what that guy did, but they didn't want to hear it. They insisted that the ban was for the best and I should just suck it up and move on. This is the mentality we are fighting. This is only going to get worse thanks to the hype that Botgrinder is pointing out in this video. The commenters in here are just as correct as bot, though. This hobby is officially dead. Not completely. It will never completely go away, but the days of us flying where we want and enjoying ourselves with fpv are coming to an end. Get used to the harassment and hate because it's about to get real sticky. People will still fly, regardless of the way things turn out. However, this hobby will never be the same again, now. So much for living in a free country. We're only free until we do something someone else doesn't like. Then all bets are off... Have fun. Enjoy yourself. Just don't be surprised when the Karens or cops show up to ruin it.

I use DJI for the FPV system in my quadcopter. However, I use the V1 goggles and Air Unit. They don't make these anymore so I get them all used so DJI doesn't get my money, and they don't have GPS in them since they all came out before all this RID stuff. It can be a bit of a pain getting it to work with some frames as everything these days is made to use the new O3 Air unit, but with some work it runs just fine.
It's still strong here in san diego. Most people just say wow that's some cool stuff. But I have also started to venture into rc boats as well and rc hovercraft
I'm unironically trying to get into R/C boats, Crawlers, and Nitro R/C trucks. Specifically because of all of the regulation that's looming over FPV. I love FPV with all my heart, but ain't no way I'm catching a federal charge for flying a tiny whoop without Remote I.D. lol
My dad got into fixed wing (including 3d planes) because the po po kept getting called on him and his buddies for flying their quads at parks and schools and all their fly spots got shut down. He’s in his late 70s and his buddies are working dudes in their late 40s to mid 50s, obviously not threatening. But he is having a blast with fixed wing line of sight, and I’ve got into it with him too and it actually is fun. Crashing tends to destroy airframes but they are pretty repairable with the right glues. The electronics seems to do fine although some people get nervous reusing gear after bad crashes. Idk, send it lol. Note: they all fly at an AMA field ( I fly after hours when the club is gone). I also fly sub250 3d foam plane at my local park, and I’ve got a couple RID modules and my stuff registered to avoid FAA trouble if I do get the itch to fly somewhere random (after checking the fly maps for no fly and temporary restrictions).
Ground FPV is so underrated to me. It allows you to do all the things drones can't. I was automatically drawn to it over drone FPV just due to the impending possibilities.. I mean you can literally make your own long range avatar these days. I put a gel blaster on one and had way too much fun driving around shooting things with it. I think the coolest thing ever is a good RC truck that can go off road almost anywhere and includes all the basic stuff like live 2 way audio, lights, horn, stabilizing gimbal etc.. With something like the *MT12 it opens up doors to add more cool stuff like robot arms etc. You can get close to an hour or more of run time on a charge so there's no constantly swapping packs etc. Can just sit somewhere and spy (zoom camera in the future would be cool). Interacting with people or dogs is a lot easier and less troublesome, you can get real close up steady shots of things, you're not always making tons of noise, can drive them around at night easily, and snafus don't typically result in the thing dropping to its death or getting stuck in an unreachable place etc. One of the coolest things is driving around a decent sized park just sitting in your car out of sight. Hitting all the paths and seeing different people lol. Many of them are turning heads trying to find the person controlling it etc. A little honk or wheel wave and keep it moving. I've snuck into some pretty cool places before using a sensored rig to where I could creep real quiet. Some place where they have an overhead door open just enough to creep under, or somewhere that is fenced off but there is just enough clearance. At the very least I always thought it would be cool for drone guys to build an RC truck purpose-built for going over and picking up drones they crashed. I guess that would save a lot of exercise though lol.
We always find a way to fly! I just srated to build a Ruby (open ipc like system) based fpv goggle from scratch for myself as a hobby project, designing and 3D printing the shell and building it's electronics and optics from off the shelf parts.
When I first got into fpv back in 2017-18, people thought it was cool when I brought it up as a unique and fun hobby. I loved sharing it and talking about it. Around 2020, mentioning it would get me weird looks because I was potentially a perv spying on people's backyards. 21-22 it's associated with airport shutdowns and plane crashes 2023 my hobby became the face of a weapon of war And now I keep it to myself. Most of my builds are broken from crashes and I haven't had the motivation to fix em. What a way to end 2024.
Ahoy Skipper! Eh, you’ll sneak in a flight or two with tiny whoops every now and then. Once bitten by something that fly’s you always come down with something.
Big TH-camrs will have to buy big warehouse's. A inside drone safe place. We're you can fly anything that will fit. It's a perfect business opportunity as well. Sell merch and sell ways that are affordable so normal ppl can fly for 5 mins or something and host drone racing events. It's a win win. It can be open year around no matter the weather. ✌️🤙

Bodgrinder: president.
We always find a way to fly! I just srated to build a Ruby (open ipc like system) based fpv goggle from scratch for myself as a hobby project, designing and 3D printing the shell and building it's electronics and optics from off the shelf parts.
Yo that's so rad! Are you documenting the build online anywhere.
@@BOTGRINDER Not yet, but i will share the final files and build guide on thingiverse.
I’m also into RC boats. I did this crazy mod to mine, it has 4 propellors and can hover above the water.
3:29 You just read my mind. Are you spying on me and my drones!? 😅
thanks bro that was good info! i didn't know it was bando guys arrested
27 reports for drones in one night in my small W Mass town last weekend……. It was starlink.🤦🏻♂️
FPV will never die. Builders will always find a way to build and fly!
Southpark cartoon predicted that years before in episode about drones.
Unfortunatley your right in so many points!
When I first got into fpv back in 2017-18, people thought it was cool when I brought it up as a unique and fun hobby. I loved sharing it and talking about it.
Around 2020, mentioning it would get me weird looks because I was potentially a perv spying on people's backyards.
21-22 it's associated with airport shutdowns and plane crashes
2023 my hobby became the face of a weapon of war
And now I keep it to myself. Most of my builds are broken from crashes and I haven't had the motivation to fix em. What a way to end 2024.
*laughs in Slaughterbots*
Maybe people should just go back to analog for goggles 😉 Or just all move to Australia, we have room!
Happy New Year Captain 🧑✈️
No remote ID and no DJI integra 🎉
Welcome to Boatgrinder!
SPOT ON. Loved the rant about Trump and Biden! Same page on everything. Totally not the direction I though you were going to cover it.
3:40 is why I love this dude
Love ya content brother !
Thanks for watchin!
There goes thousands of dollars in Fpv gear we are left with flying whoops in that one bedroom studio.
Captain Botgrinder 2044
Love the stick! 😂
you frkn said everything!!! I tried to warn people. I’m still gonna fly in my backyard, damn it 🤫 lol. Analog too!
The 2018 fpv scene was the best😢
Aye aye captain, oh wait all the drone stuff and 0 deaths... This is a WIN for fpv and drones.. in the same period how many died in general aviation?
I'll see you on the other side BOATGRINDER.
now he is: BOATgrinder
Ahoy Skipper! Eh, you’ll sneak in a flight or two with tiny whoops every now and then. Once bitten by something that fly’s you always come down with something.
I'm so glad I got rid of all of my DJI stuff a year ago. I'm strictly HDZero.
i didnt realise you where holding as stick until 3 mins in
More videos on TH-cam need it’s always sunny references that relate to everyday life 👌
Wow! you're the only person I've heard in the drone community who isn't kissing up to DJI!
Amazing! Someone willing to call them out!
Shrimpin boats!🤔
