30 years ago, I bought this table and chair set for $300.00 brand new, it was the first thing that I had saved up for and paid cash. I was a single mom and times were tough but seeing this set took me back to when my little girl was 3 years old.

A few tips for stencilling: use a stencil brush not a sponge, offload paint onto a paper towel before stencilling, use a swirling motion not a dabbing motion for better results.

I wouldn't agree, as she just might be going for a textured stencil, they can be used professionally in this way. I just love 'different' and she has great tastes in everything she does, her work is immaculate! Yes...and THANK YOU for that info here. Apparently, I got some bad info for instructions on how to apply stencils. I was dabbing...with a make up type sponge...and I ruined every single thing I did!! Each time they just bled all over and I ruined so many projects I was working on. GRRRRR Very disappointing to say the least.
So I will gladly take your advice and once again say THANK YOU!! I will try to finish those projects now. Fingers crossed. ;)

I've done a lot of stenciling and when I first started, the paint bled HORRIBLY (!!!) under the cut edges. Through trial and error (lots of error!), I have come up with the right way to do it (for me, anyway). I start with 3 or 4 layers of good quality paper towels (I use only Bounty), folded and flattened and dab the brush until it is nearly dry and then I dab the brush over the stencil. Since I starting using this method, my work has turned out very professional, with nice, clean lines of pattern! I have never used foam and buy only the best quality stencil brushes. Also, ensuring that the stencil does not move - at all - is also key! So, tape well. Hope this helps.

Love it! Less paint helps when stenciling. I have painted a piece the color I wanted my stencil to be, then take a piece of lace and sprayed with temp spray adhesive, then lay it on and spray paint over it. When you remove the lace you get the pattern. It is beautiful! Wish I could share a picture with you. Love your set! Love that you try new things. Keep learning!

A tip for stenciling if you don't want bleed through: have a paper towel handy to offload excess paint (less is more). Washing both sides of the stencil is really important. If ANY paint gets under and dries there it will be a constant point of leakage. Looks great though and not bad at all for a first try!

I love that you’re trying out new things! Please don’t let this discourage you! Stenciling and transfers are pretty artistic, and as an artist I can tell you it takes practice! Learning is a curve, but after just a couple times you’ll be more in the groove of it. I would say you can always sketch your idea (very basic shape sketching is still helpful!) to help with placement of your designs and to have a vision! I really hope to see more in the future! Love what you did to this set. If you don’t want your stencil color of paint to bleed, stencil first with your background color. Let it dry, then stencil with the white. By doing this, any bleeding will be the same color as your background, which keeps the white paint from bleeding.
Love your show!! Keep teaching us how to flip furniture. Blessings!

I personally love stencils, but would have chosen either a more muted color (50% white??) so it was more subtle or I would have stenciled by offloading much much more. I would never use one of those stenciling sponges. You need a proper stenciling brush.
For your first try? I think you did an excellent job. It’s *almost* cottage for but for that you need color. Granny chic is cottage core too. All the rage these days.
If you want to get into that genre, Upcycled By Bri or Jami Ray Vintage both have TH-cam channels.

I think your on the right track with the stenciling. I wouldn’t have placed them so randomly since I’m a bit traditional and sometimes OCD. I have a table to paint as well and I intend to do it black with white stenciling. You maybe should have staged it with the leaf in and placed some pretty dishes on it and a small centerpiece. Dollar tree has some all white dishes with raised dots on the edges that are quite versatile with any decor. A service for four would only cost $16.00. Good luck with your new business.

Can u plz make a video or two for a beginner, about the basic materials to buy for flipping furniture, even maybe taking us along to a store where u show us different supplies and variations and the uses? And another video for the uses of different things that u bought and variations. Like u use a top coat for some, wax for others, primer plus paint in one or separate and so on? Watching u makes my hands itch to paint something but right now feel like I’ve watched a surgeon in action, telling us all the tools and steps of a surgery but as a layman, I can copy exactly, maybe😅, but won’t know what I’m doing!!!! Plz plz would love to learn the basics from u. I know I tell us along what u r using but from the beginning would be best for a novice like me!! Prayers for your success

P.s. I finished my first project today. I used Rust-Oleum chalk paint in country blue. And used Waverly clear wax. I found I did not use enough wax with the wax brush so I re applied it with a paint brush and wiped it back. Much better. It's a found in the trash nightstand with two drawer. The drawer fronts had to be removed, were fabric covered, and was made from MDF. I did not paint them. I peeled off the fabric and tried a new fabric. It's not put back together yet. But I think it may look pretty nice in my room. Thank you, I have been inspired by you to try this! 😁

I used to do some stenciling. I really got into doing mailboxes because I lived in an area that had a mailbox at the end of every driveway. I lived on Daisy Dr., so guess what our mailbox was. You are correct, the box was white with big yellow daisies. I also did one that was Noah's Ark with a few of the animals and the church nearby wanted that one. Next was for my son's home and he wanted a black mailbox with the moon and stars. I sold several others, but know I could have done more, but with working a full-time job, I had difficulty getting the time to work on it. A friend of mine did the risers on her stairway with unique flowers on each one and it was beautiful. Keep up the good work..

I’ve been selling / flipping for 5 years in my rural town. I’m 90% clean and flip successfully. But when I do paint/stain the small 10% something like this would only get $150 max. For me I enjoy the creative process so it’s not always about the profits cause I know I won’t make as much $$ if I spent time painting. For example you’re table set would sell for $75 as is vs $125 and it would take several hours to work on it. I’d rather flip and spend less time on it. Also 100% of my furniture is free so I can sell And retain more profits. I do enjoy watching and supporting your channel as a fellow flipper/teacher/debt reducer/female/traveler🥰

I have stenciled a bit in my time. You had too much paint on your dabber. Dab on a paper towel to have almost a dry dabbler before stenciling on the piece and you will have less bleeding under your stencil (tape it down more also). You will have a more crisp outcome with less paint. Cute set though!

Lol. My husband had that same dining set, except 2 leafs and 6 chairs. We still have the chairs. Not sure what happened to the table. We raised 5 kids at that table. Now that we have lots of grandkids, he made a huge picnic type table and use some of those chairs. 🙂🙂
    Good job btw. Very cute!

I haven't read other comments but would just say that stencil may have people thinking Granny's doilies.
    Love your flips!

Awesome job.. I think its different but fun.. you could over lay it layer it with grays.. sand it more then put a light stain over it so it looks more old.. I think the right buyer will come along..

When I did my very first piece, which is an old Victrola cabinet, I stenciled all around it too! And I LOVE how it turned out. I wish I could share pictures with you. I’m sure that my future pieces will have some stenciling incorporated somehow. I feel like it helps to separate me from other flippers so to speak! And REALLY helps to bring out the creativity in me! Great job Lauren! I really love how this project turned out! Thanks again for sharing. I absolutely love watching you!

Super cool with the stencil, girl. It really updated the look and the ‘one of a kind’ aspect of it. The combo of intricate white boho stencil with the solid neutral grey background is so pretty, subtle, and cool-contemporary. Luv.

It's just like my grandmother's table and chairs. I have the hutch that matches it... I wish I knew where her table ended up. Great job!!!

I love your videos and the furniture you flip! I want to pass on a tip that I saw a DIYer use. When stenciling, she uses her base paint with the stencil first and then the color she wants the stencil to be. She says it seals the edges and prevents bleeding. You do great work!!!

We enjoyed watching you breath new life into your childhood dining table and chairs. Really surprised it didn't sell quickly. I thought it was priced too low. :) We like the fixed camera video best. It is easier to watch. We enjoy watching your channel from Tuscany. :)

Thank you for posting this! For the tables I have that are not real wood, and I need to paint for whatever reason instead of staining, I love the idea of stencil!! I’m looking on Amazon now for stencils for my next painted table and chairs! I thought this was gorgeous.

I have used Waverly quite a bit and for a budget paint it is awesome! You must water it down. I spray it with a mister bottle and water it down to a cake mix consistency. But the black is my favorite black out there. It is really dark and when you add black wax it is a dreamy black. I am so happy to see you showing this amazing budget paint.

Just bought the exact set at a thief store for my children. I do not like the color. So am grateful to see the outcome. Thank you for the ideas. 😍

Congratulations to you on paying off your student loan debt. That's marvelous! It is great to know working on various projects will pay off serious debts. I just love ALL your projects. You have inspired this retired senior citizen lady who used to do some substitute teaching to flip some furniture. I will start in my garage. I will flip furniture to pay my student loan and other debts and my garage will be cleaned. Today, July 1st is my husband and my Birthday. This is a great day to start.Thank you. I will be waiting for your live tonight! I am so excited!💝

Love your enthusiasm and your great teaching skills! I just stenciled the top of a nightstand I pulled from bulk trash. It was fun and looks great. I'm not a furniture flipper yet, but enjoying the learning that comes from trying.

The plain grey is so gorgeous and while the stencil is super pretty it creates a very femine aura so a gentleman may not choose that particular look. Considering that it appears to be a brand new set I think it's fantastic! You're doing great things!

I think someone who likes the Boho vibe, which is very popular, will like this. It is a particular taste, though. The neutral color is good. 🙂👍
