OK, I know you probably won’t ever see this comment because this video was from such a long time ago. But I remembered you doing the smoked glaze and I thought it was so pretty. Fast forward to now, I just finished the top of a small three drawer chest with the smoked glaze. I had painted it with Fusion‘s little lamb and so it was gray. But, this smoked glaze made it beautiful! I am in love. Thanks so much for inspiring me. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, well, I am 75 and I just learned a new trick. Take care, stay safe.
You are so real. And very entertaining. You do a professional job without acting like a "know it all." I really enjoy your videos and seeing how great your pieces turn out.
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher I just don’t understand why you have to use chalk paint. The big claim to fame for chalk paint is that it has primer in it but most paints these days do, so is there another option? How do you feel about the homemade recipes? It’s just so expensive.
I think we have all been there with the "infamous spray can fail" you were way more patient than I would have been. But, I have tried the following things to some degree of success. 1. Take the tip off and throw it into the hottest water and let sit for 15 minutes. Works 8 times out of 10. 2. Switch the tip with a known working can. 7/10 3. take the tip off and clear both ends with a needle. sometimes works. 4. Send the husband to the store for a new can and take a break. Works every time! Thank you for sharing your work and your encouragement.
I purchased a dresser and nightstand over 20 years ago, and I've always hated the circular metal pulls on them, but I've never felt secure enough to buy new knobs and change them myself. You have really inspired me to look for knobs that I REALLY like and change them out myself. It's moved to my #1 project goal!
Ohh wow! That's great! You can do it! Drills and things can be intimidating but practice on other scrap wood and get the hang of it...you'll do great! (: Thanks for watching!
You can do it. I changed the pulls on all of my kitchen cabinets and they look awesome! I bought them at Amazon. At first I bought the wrong size, and I exchanged them. I didn't even need a fancy tool, just a screwdriver. Trust me, if I can do it you can. It's a joke in my family that I am not handy. So my kitchen pulls are my proudest moment
I think it's great you show the oups, trials, mistakes and things that go wrong in your videos. Often times people think YT is real life and when all the bloopers are cut out, some people think perfection is how life should be, and that's not even close to being the truth. I appreciate you ❤

Hi Lauren, primer of any brand is sticky and hard to clean up so if you stop at any point, even for a few minutes you need to turn your can upside down and spay till the content comes out clear. This will extend all spray paint, especially sticky primers.
I stumbled across your channel and am glad I did.😊 I have a 1969 china cabinet made of mostly veneer over heavy composite board and some wood which I got last year for $75 ("My parents bought the best top-of-the-line set in the store and my Mum was so proud of her dining room", said the seller) and a 65+ yr old table and chairs of (HEAVY!) solid oak I bought last week for $250 ("It was the first suite of furniture my parents bought after they bought their first house." said the seller, then her 94 yr old Mum added, "I saved up for it by putting a few dollars in a cookie tin every month for 2 years and my husband surprised me because he was doing the same, so we felt like we really had something when we brought it home and set it up!" - both from FB Marketplace. Crazy thing is, they look like they are a set, even though the table and chairs from one and the buffet-hutch from the other were sold to other people before I saw either item. I want to paint them white and I have never tried painting furniture before so your videos are just great. I am more concerned about doing the proper prep than the painting, and then the right finish. I don't want it to look amateurish. Plus being that one is almost an antique and one is a vintage piece, they will require different approaches. Also, the wood filler thing is good to know. I am Canadian so not sure if I can get the same products locally, but I can show the ppl your video and get something close!😄 Thank you for being so easy to follow.
I don’t know why but I would love to see a video of your knobs and hardware collection that you have accumulated from refinishing that you have hoarded away. I have a decent little collection. Some I have purchased from eBay to use in future projects. I really love the older vintage knobs pulls and hinges.
You can put the tape across the screw holes on your handles and mark/puncture them, then just transfer the tape to your drawer and your holes are marked for you!
Spray paint cans are notorious for clogging! Sometimes it can help to run it under warm water, prick the opening with a pin or try spraying it upside down for like 30 seconds. I’ve revived many I thought were dead!
I bought a small fixer-upper townhome to live in, and only half the kitchen cabinets were there. I found some, one at a time, at the two different Restore shops near me (a few months apart), and the door patterns were slightly different each time. After doing a similar antiqued look to all of them, nobody notices that I have 4 different door patterns until I point it out! The trick was not having them sit side-by-side, two patterns are upper, two patterns are lower, and on opposite sides of the galley kitchen. I love it, and it was so cheap on my budget. At some point in the future when I sell this townhome, I won't point out the differences, but I'll listen and watch to see if they even notice!
I am 71 and just finished chalk painting a huge old oak dresser. The funny thing is that I was the one who stripped all the paint off it and refinished it about 40 years ago. I added an antique oak mirror I found recently and it is gorgeous.
I'm 68 and bought a large hutch, 4 doors up and 4 down, i seperated top from bottom, took all top doors off, turned upsidedown, rebuilt the plain base to a shaped curved base, cut the top section down 8cm, added moulsings to the uprights of the top, painted it white chalk paint, added black metal handles and knobs, screwed it all together and now I have the most beautiful French wallunit. Because I live in an apartment where power tools are not allowed all sawing, cutting, sanding, drilling and screwing were done with hand tools. You can do anything, you just have to start, and if you're not sure there are many tutorials to teach you..... And the end result and satisfaction is so empowering, give it a go, you'll be so glad tou did, good luck 👷

One painting tip I use all the time when painting trim is to use a small pan and roller and roll the paint on the trim then stroke it out with the brush. This works with furniture too and really speeds up getting the paint on the surface. I feel I have better control this way than with a can of spray paint and my hand doesn't get as tired as it would with doing it all with a brush. You are inspiring Lauren, keep up the good work!
Y’all, that water mister is what I use on my natural hair. It’s at Sally’s Beauty Supply. It’s literally laying underneath my vanity where I kicked it last time I styled my hair.

I never even thought to just replace the top drawers and use one of those on the missing one. So simple and now I can do this finish and it will be great, thank you!!!
I paint a lot of my furniture white. I prime with the BIN shellac primer. I love the spray can for the convenience and getting into detailed areas. Because of the cost, I roll it or paint it out of the can.

Nice Job! Paint and coordinating hardware can easily pull mismatched furniture together! BTW, I love the shortened depth of field in the videographer’s work! He does an excellent job!
Don't forget to apply for loan forgiveness for working teachers. I worked in financial aid so know there are programs to help you pay off that loan faster. And thank you for being a teacher🤗
I needed a second bedside so picked up one at the Restore...same height, same amount of drawers and I just painted it and sprayed the hardware to match the existing one. I love the two colours you used.
Use the tape to keep the wood from splitting from the drill. You could try using marker on the back of the hardware "holes", and drilling the marks made on the wood.
I have the same style furniture but was missing one night stand. I paint my whole bedroom furniture set , came out pretty good for my first time. I love it now , I’ve been painting more pieces so far getting better so I can start flipping.
The spray can sprayer is the love of my life!! Haha I love making over furniture, my style is FREE so I get a hold of a lot of neat pieces... My problem, no garage lol I clean houses and in my work I have a bucket of hot water/cleaner and I put about 10 washcloths in it. As I use I just throw the dirty ones in a pile on the floor. Keeps the water clean with no fuss. New subscriber! Love your work! Thank you for sharing!
I did my first rehab with 6 wooden chairs. You made it possible for me to be confident that I could do this. Ill have to say my hands are sore. LOL. But I learned it all from your videos.
Hello Lauren - when spray painting, you want to go side to side in a light spray (to avoid drips). Then do a 2nd coat the same way. I've painted lot's of furniture and know how it is with spray paint.
I have purchased a spray can of paint some time ago, it would not spray properly, took back to the store and they replaced the product, love your show, I have also learned a lot, and enjoy painting thanks from Lois
I must have looked at your videos 30 or 40 times and today I found a 2 draw dresser on the side of the road. I am taking the plunge and giving it a go.
I’ve created that glaze look with a mixture of watered down paint and stain and it turns out so cool but time consuming. Going to try that glaze for sure! Great job! Beautiful pieces😍
Beautiful job!, You can make your own template by putting your fixture on a piece of paper, poking holes where the screw goes , then put the paper on the drawer and mark your holes.
I enjoyed the struggle inmensely! Thanks for being real. I was a furniture maker for 25 years and had plenty of days like this one. You are very hard working and have great attitude toward unplanned hickups. I know you are going to make it!!!!
I shake my cans for a minute at least and the nozzles get clogged a lot and I just run hot water on them and replace them. Love your transformations girlie!
Sometimes spray can nozzles can get clogged. I think you can spray a bit with the can upside down to clear it. I love your tips and creativity. Thanks for sharing. May your student loans evaporate!
Get the drawer hole tool. It really makes it easy and it isn't expensive. Before I got that I used a piece of cardboard to make a template. Love your channel. Just subscribed.
I have this same night stand, but only one and I have the whole set head board dresser with mirror. That’s crazy. I repaint my whole bedroom suite with gray and dry brushed black stain my first time painting furniture, it turned out pretty good. I have to touch up some spots because my cats scratched the paint off but learning experience for me , but now I love it. I’ve done a lot of pieces so far still learning. O yeah I got glass bobs for my pieces.
Just found you, I did my first chalk paint in the kitchen. I am to do it to am old IKEA piece. You are so great in teaching your viewers, so low key, right to the point and exacting. I subscribed and great full that I came across your channel.🙏🏼
Yes I would always keep the hardware. Furniture and cabinet hardware can get expensive. Excellent deal on those tables, I love them even before you refinished them.
I like the ease and speed of spray cans. But I’ve also found what you have. One can may spray great and the next we frustrating. Or not spray right at all. I also think it doesn’t last as long and is more expensive. So I stay away. I have an HVLP gun and love it. Again... I still use more but not much. Also, I really love that glaze you use. I had never tried it until I saw you. I bought some and fell in love. I did find the same ting you did. That first wipe needs extra glaze on it so that you get a more consistent look. For drawer hardware... the tape should keep the wood from tearing out. I have the kreg jig for hardware and I LOVE it. Got it to install my kitchen hardware and now use it for furniture.
You need to run a candle or some beeswax along the drawer runners. The drawers should run much more smoothly once you've done that. You can also use a bar of soap. I'm sure there are commercial products that work too but I've never needed them. This trick can be used along the bottom or top of sliding doors too. Works a treat.
If you have a harbor freight around you they have a sprayer for 20$ (at least in my area). Get the gravity one but you also need a air compressor. If you like the spray cans you’ll love that more. Just add some paint from the can and a little bit of water and spray away. Saves time and money. Win win.
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher but my husband has an air compressor and he said if I'm serious and start making money at flipping, I can get a spray attachment! Right now I'm getting two rooms ready for my parents in a Memory Care Unit and I'm using them as guinea pigs.
Personally, I prefer mismatched pieces. Not liking matchy matchy. Paint and hardware unify the pieces. And I like combo of pulls/handles on larger pieces. These are artistic elements that take your work up a notch. You're doing great, Lauren, improving every day!
Absolutely Love your findings and flips. I love Goodwill . I’d rather shop Good Will then buy new. Also, Please wear a mask when you’re working with a cleaner... whether you’re in an enclosed space or not . Safety first 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I chuckled when that spray can went wrong! How you didn’t throw it in the bin I have no idea! I absolutely loved how you made this mismatched set look like it was always a set.
I've gotten some random bad cans of paint here and there too. It's so frustrating. I love that spray can tool and just put one in my Amazon shopping cart. 👍 Nicely done! I love how it looks like a set, but not so matchy matchy. 🤍

BTW, I love the shortened depth of field in the videographer’s work! He does an excellent job!
Don't forget to apply for loan forgiveness for working teachers. I worked in financial aid so know there are programs to help you pay off that loan faster. And thank you for being a teacher🤗
Good for you!!! What a fantastic video. Enjoy teaching those little ones from one retired teacher to another active teacher...... LOVE YOUR STYLE!!
I am loving watching your videos! Just bought my orbital sander, some brushes and primer/paint and I am ready to have fun! ❤
Hi all the way from London love ❤️ you're videos amazing talented young lady rooting for you ❤️ way to go Lauren
Thank you! (: I appreciate your support!
I needed a second bedside so picked up one at the Restore...same height, same amount of drawers and I just painted it and sprayed the hardware to match the existing one. I love the two colours you used.
That is awesome! I just love putting different sets together (: Thanks for watching, Phyllis!
What a great job! I like that you don’t talk too fast and you show and tell us the things you use for your project. ☺️
You always do such a great job. I am in awe!!!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words!
Your neighbours have great patience!
Use the tape to keep the wood from splitting from the drill. You could try using marker on the back of the hardware "holes", and drilling the marks made on the wood.
This was a great video to watch, especially because your real personality came out at the end, you did a great job. I'm a RTvF major.
I admire your commitment to cleaning your pieces thoroughly. It shows you care about the quality of your work and your future customers.
When you finish spraying turn it upside down to clean the paint. This will stop the problem of it not working
I have the same style furniture but was missing one night stand. I paint my whole bedroom furniture set , came out pretty good for my first time. I love it now , I’ve been painting more pieces so far getting better so I can start flipping.
The spray can sprayer is the love of my life!! Haha
I love making over furniture, my style is FREE so I get a hold of a lot of neat pieces...
Those pieces are in really good shape! And, wow!!! They look so beautiful afterward! Well done,
I did my first rehab with 6 wooden chairs.
Thanks for hanging out with me while I denail a bunch of salvaged wood from my renovation
Beautiful job!!! I enjoyed watching. I plan to do refinish a dresser I own. 👏👏👏😊
I had the exact same issue with the exact same spray primer. The shellac based one was fine but the regular one did the same thing to me. Great work!
Grrrr.... Mfg problem... Frustrating ...
I’ve created that glaze look with a mixture of watered down paint and stain and it turns out so cool but time consuming. Going to try that glaze for sure! Great job! Beautiful pieces😍
Beautiful job!,
You can make your own template by putting your fixture on a piece of paper, poking holes where the screw goes , then put the paper on the drawer and mark your holes.
I'm sure some has said it but the tip can get clogged after you spray flip the can up side down and spray. To clean the tip. Great vid
I enjoyed the struggle inmensely! Thanks for being real. I was a furniture maker for 25 years and had plenty of days like this one. You are very hard working and have great attitude toward unplanned hickups. I know you are going to make it!!!!
They turned out awesome as a beautiful set.
Girl get you a garden kneeling pad or those put together foam squares, your knees will thank you in the future. Great vids.
Such a beautiful job! So I'm not surprised these sold so quickly! Congrautlations!
Yes, spray paint is expensive and I always have problems with it stopping and starting when spraying.❤️🇬🇧
The smoked glaze is really unique! Going to get some for my own furniture.
That spray can would have been chucked way before you actually finished. A Kinder teacher through and through...never give up!
Sometimes I have to wipe the little spray can hole or sprayer off.
I shake my cans for a minute at least and the nozzles get clogged a lot and I just run hot water on them and replace them. Love your transformations girlie!
Oh and sometimes you just get bad ones and have to go return them/trade out. Weird and aggravating but happens all too often.
Use brad point drill bits to help out with the blow out. Also put a block of behind the hole do you do not blow it out,
Sometimes spray can nozzles can get clogged.
OMGEEE Lauren💕! What a gorgeous set! Great job and beautiful colors💕🙌💕!!
Thank you so much!!
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher I just ordered my t-shirt too-they’re adorable🥰!
I'd totally use the spray primer for little detail areas then regular can primer and a roller for the large flat areas - best of both worlds!
Put tape on inside of drawer and use a bag and pipe it in the holes like cake icing!
Nice
Thank you for making this video. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Beautiful job on the furniture.
Love the look. Amazing job. I like to rub a lip gloss to the ends of the hard wear and then place on the tape. Perfect stencil for the holes.
I’m with you - I hate measuring!
Win win.
I love my "spray gun"! I have arthritis and it makes spraying so much easier!
Yeah! I love it!!!
Safety first 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thanks for sharing and for watching 🤗
Goodwill is the best and I’m so happy to have them around! The best gems are found there!
looks great. the hardware really pulls the pieces together.
Nicely done! I love how it looks like a set, but not so matchy matchy. 🤍

Lauren, I love that you set up an Amazon wish list!! You have some Dewalt clamps on the way! 😘 See ya on the flip side. ❤️
Thank you!! I can't wait to open and use them! (:
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher you’re very welcome. Happy to help! Teachers are way undervalued and glad I could help in a small way. ☺️
Hold can upside down and spray to clear nozzle, then hold upright and continue spraying your piece
I loved the way it turned out. I loved the smoky grey top coat.
Could it be a faulty can/nozzle Lauren? I'd take it back next time you go to the supplier and let them know- it could have been a crook batch?! I love this colour combination- so fresh and elegant Lauren. Well done... your patience was tested but you powered on- great work. Blessings and encouragement to you.xx
Hi love from london ♥️
Hey Esther! (: Thanks for watching!
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher it looked great
Beautiful as usual Lauren! You just get better and better!
