    A few notes:
    - Ya Layli Ya Layli: means Oh My Night, Oh My Night: is a popular "warm up" / intro used in arabic classics. Faouzia dropped the "Oh" in the beginning. Both versions are used.
    - Ghzalti: is the female form of my sweetheart/loved one, while ghzali is the male form of my sweetheart/loved one.

okay gotta explain you something about the "ghzalti"
she didn't pronounce the t because in arabic we have feminine and masculine differences in the same words ,
and the original singer is a male singer he says Ghzalti which translates into my beauty (a woman)
faouzia is a female and straight so she automatically sings is Ghzali which means the same thing but ( a man )
    hope that helps 🤍
also a note that the dialect for this song is called Darija which the Arabic dialect we speak in North Africa

      @modallas2 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@jessicasopranonotes This explanation offered above is actually missing a few more important details.
In Arabic, the masculine form is commonly used to refer to the female (beloved). Doing so has the subtle effect of denoting who has the power over who in that relationship. She has the power over him.
In the original Sting song, it is indeed pronounced "ghazalti" (feminine form of the word). I would argue that using the feminine form has nothing to do with common practice in Arabic in such situations (where referring to the female beloeved in the masculine form would be far more common) but rather may have to do with the particulars of Algerian Arabic, or simply a judgement call on behalf of the Algerian artist who might have thought "ghazalti" sounds phonetically better in the song. Hope it helps! And you and your channel are amazing! Cheers!

At her Detroit concert, she had some technical difficulties. I think with the in-ear track. Rather than interrupt the flow, she pulled out the in-ear, and conferred briefly with the keyboard player. She sang “Desert Rose” without any track, without a microphone and with accompaniment on keyboard only.
A bit rough to start, but she caught up and sang it with power and conviction, and charmed the audience of 200.

When you were discussing the lyric repetition with melodic variations my mind connected almost immediately with your idea of the multitude of questions that would arise upon encountering a rose in the middle of the desert and I wondered if the melodic variations on the same lyric might have been, if not completely but perhaps partly, a means of communicating that state of mental/emotional sensory assault. Fouzia's voice is exceptional and so was the effort you put forward in doing this analysis. Truly a remarkable job, Jess.

Since this month is Holy Week, I'm going to take advantage of this video to recommend again to Jessica Camilo Sesto's presentation of the theme song of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
I think it is the right time to remember this record, because it has been 54 years since the original album came out, 51 years since the movie was released and 49 years since Camilo Sesto took it to the stages of Madrid.
I think it is appropriate to remember it because surely many of Jessica's followers are too young to know this music, and the truth is that I think it is very important to fill those gaps in the knowledge of many, because without those previous works, I think there would be no music today.
Regardless of all that, it's a great song and a spectacular presentation, that's why I want to recommend Jessica to listen to it and analyze it (there's a lot to comment on that presentation).
As I said a thousand times, a big hug and we will be here to support your work, you deserve not only 100K subscribers, but many, many more.

The Arabic words in this song are very few. But they are poetic words that carry a lot of emotional feelings. They are many in Arabic poems and songs.
    In the first song:
"ya lily, oh lily, ya lily "
    Meaning: Oh my night..
The longing person who is far from his love feels the feelings of his pain, his love far away from him... during the night, when everything is quiet, memories come and haunt his imagination and arouse his longing and pain... so he calls out in pain: “ya lily ya lily”
And in the middle of the song:
It is a very famous word in Arabic songs.
    "aman aman aman"
    it means :
    peace peace peace
    or :
I hope for peace, and I sing for peace.

"Layly" mean my night "ya" is a calling like saying "oh" the order can be changed traditionally, in classical Arabic singing it is often used as a warm up before the song starts.
She changed ghazalti from the original song to ghazali. The word means Deer 🦌 but is also a way of saying my love. The original singer was male singing about looking for his female love "ghazalti" she is a female singing about finding her male love "ghazali" Its like spanish were words have male/female suffixes
Arabic music especially classical style follows a different set of scales called Makam/maqqam look it up its super interesting

As an Moroccan Arab let me clarify the lyrics a little bit for you guys.☺️
She did begging with #layli.. but in Arabic sometimes singers escape #ya but later on they play #ya for so long like #yaaaaaaaa then they add #ya_layli which is mean ( oh my night ) oh here is for calling. Like if my name Carlos you gonna call me ya Carlos take this apple .. ya for take attention..
For ghazali and #ghazalti in Arabic are the same the diference is ( ghazali : masculin / while ghazalti is female ) while she is a female singer she choose #ghazalti ..(ghazali = gazelle)
Hadi moda Twila ( it’s been a long time)
    But #hadi means ( this) ..
That’s why Arabic is the hardest language even for us we the Arabs.

I have started watching with the sound accidentally off and your face impression was like the singer is absolutely horrible... Funny stuff happened when I have turned the sound on and you actually like the song... Brilliant...

Desert Rose was originally a song by British musician Sting, featuring Algerian raï singer Cheb Mami. If you want to hear from the man's mouth what the song is about, here it is : th-cam.com/video/9DNhStXhWJM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Xq3WAl1AAWJS4f85

Mmmmm i speak arabic and really difficult to explain.
But in the main lyrics Cheb Mami was saying GHAZALTI for a girl
She changed the word to GHAZALI because she is singing to a man

A man would say Ghzalti (beautiful female)
A woman would say Ghzali ( beautiful male)
Hence the reason she wasnt pronouncing the T

    ghzalti : female
    ghzali : mal
Original song from man to woman. ghzalti
Faouzia modified the original words. So the song became from a woman to a man. ghzali

She doesn’t pronounce the T because it’s the masculine name of Ghzalti which is ghzali so she pronounce GHZALI

To me, this version of Faouzia singing Desert Rose is so much better, more powerful, more emotional, less rehearsed.

This performance is more emotive and her voice sounds more powerful however she utilizes even more vocal agility plus a lighter approach in the other performance (the tiktok performance).

this is actually not the arabic LANGUAGE it's an rabic DIALECT (ALGERIAN) , and Algeria is located next to Morocco so the dialects are pretty much alike, you can find the original version it's called ( STING and CHEB MAMI - Desert rose )
