I recently found a a 1977 D quarter out metal detecting. I immediately noticed that there was something different about the composition of the coin... which led me to check with JB coin if there were any information about it. Well, it turns out after placing it on the scale - it weighs 5.7 g... and in better shape than the one showcased in this video... and better yet it is uncleaned.

You need to send it to be graded it will cost you a few dollars but after that you may get rich. At least have a lot for a quarter. But when sending it threw the mail besure to insure it as if it was a diamond. God luck it was just your turn to be blessed.

Very educational. Liked and subbed. I have an 1877-cc Seated Half dollar I bought on eBay. Something about the surfaces looked too good to be true. But I took a chance and sent it to ANACS for grading. It came back AU50, Re-punched Date but cleaned. The seller offered to refund me my money and return the coin. When I looked up the value with the RPD, I thanked him and said I'd keep it. I've sent a lot of coins to ANACS and have found them to be as strict or stricter than the other 3rd party grading services. Cheers, Bob

I have been in the Denver Mint. On a special tour, we were in the area where coins are struck. As I recall, coins start off as a Ribbon of metal, long enough for several coins to be struck by being fed thru the machine like a fully automatic machine gun. A single coin such as that Silver Quarter would have to have been some type of deliberate act, IMHO.

Hopefully, maybe a few, maybe. I've always weighed for transitional silver or copper coins. It's fun to search anyways. Many people commented having one, don't think paid enough attention to weight of a silver coin.

Where there’s one most likely there is a second. Having worked on a production line when we were switching from one product to another there was always some that got away. There would be product left in the hoppers that would actually fall into the wrong bags. We would always try to catch those bags coming off the lines but it was impossible to catch them all. U can bet I went back and weighed all my 1977 D coins looking for that one that got away.

Cleaning a coin is bad. But if you do it the right way even PCGS won't notice. A coin dealer on TH-cam got some Morgan dollars and cleaned them all, all but 2 came back between ms-63 - ms-65. Only 2 of them came back as genuine but cleaned. I was impressed by this experiment. So technically if you do it correctly it won't ruin your coin.

Found a dime that has a look like the 1977 quarter displayed. The look of silver toned/tarnish looks different that a regular one. I keep everything I find interesting and irregular. After looking through enough coins you'll know what's everyday average could be slight doubling thickening of the letters but recently I've been finding what some videos say as doubling and when I ask about them I get no when I can reference many things I see and hear that would say other wise but into my collection it goes have a 1977 double die half dollar and use it as a reference all the time as I know its a legit ddo and seem to always get told otherwise I still love coin hunting and do it for myself and as a time and stress relief money is far from my motivation to hunt but often ask my self how can they not see what I see and the only option is to but a better microscope cause the you only need 8 to 10x magnifier is not it apparently you have to have something way stronger to see better cause I'm constantly getting images are clear enough have a 40x loop and a 100x times magnifier clip on for phones and those aren't able to capture and be enough so have to buy something better. Been finding a lot of dimes that seem to have doubling on the date but don't know if it's common place cause some are just to compelling to think other wise

Have an odd 2006, P, Quarter that looks like it has part of a different color like bronze or copper mixed in the silver on the front like it's just a glob of copper or bronze that was accidentally dropped and not mixed together with the silver. The side view of the exterior rim ( at the grooves) also reflects a very uneven distribution of the 2 colors as well. How can I see if there is a higher value? Thanks

That's what I keep saying? I started playing with coins in the mid-60s then got heavier in late 60s that I stopped for a while of course I never clean them then because I wasn't doing that but recently in this decade I started back in coins again for the Last 5 Years questions arise as to what is? On the surface? You know it isn't healthy and if it's an obvious substance are you going to leave it there but I don't do any cleaning according to mainstream methods of somebody that's never played with coins but my question is there's always something on a coin that didn't come with the coin?

I think a blank was stuck in a part of the press and was transferred to another mint, then pressed and distributed normally. My guess is that San Fran- has an extra, or the boys in Denver were in a jam- and needed press parts and the swap was made. I’ll look out for this, but I bet it was a one of kind coin

Hi JB, I have a 2005-P Kansas quarter that looks like no clad, the border is solid nickel, is there a variety like that? I never saw another like this one, thank you

    I've got one n it's got the filled d error n doubling . I've also got four 1965 quarters an a 66 n this 77
I've even got four d bicentennial quarters w/errors n two no mint bicentennial quarters. An a no mint 69. I'm curious as to what the odds are I'd have gotten this many of the same ones n the rarity of these coins n what the lot could potentially be worth. I'd be willing to part with one or two pending the price n value. I'm still learning more about this coin stuff. But I've got a nice hand full of coins I've obtained in a short period of time and have found some rather lucky finds.

I was watching your video about the 1977 quarter minted in Denver. I have a quarter from then but the mint mark is hard to establish. It has a mark on it in the place where the mark goes but it looks as if it was mis- struck and the letter can't be determined. I think it is from the Denver mint because it has all the other characteristics you described in the your video. I would like your advice on how to get it examined.

In a different video of yours I posted a comment saying I have a coin of the 1977 D but I just need to verify if it’s worth anything. On that comment I forgot to ask you for a recommendation on where to verify and to see the condition of the coin, I ask this because I have 4 other coins to verify. Two 1982 P sm•date that weight 3.1 grams, and two 1982 D sm•date that weight 2.5 grams. This is my first time that I want to verify a coin. Thank you for the help.

Did u do anything with them yet? if not, first thing to do is buy a jewelers scale, or something that can weigh at least down to 1/10 of a gram, if you dont already have one. Then weigh it, along with other regular quarters(aka clad) & see if they weigh the same as those. If they dont weigh about the same, & they weigh about 5.7g, get PCGS to grade it! i

Thank you J&B. I look forward to watching yall's videos. I never walk away without learning something new. My interest in coins started about a year ago but its only been a matter of months since I discovered this coin world on TH-cam. I have much to learn and thank you both for assisting me in this thirst to gain much needed knowledge regarding coins...
Quick question if I may? I suspect yall are very busy individuals. In advance, I understand if you don't have time to respond..... I was under the impression that it wasn't harmful to use a little water without scrubbing or using anything abrasive. Most coins I come across are filthy. Can using little water and very gingerly wiping the water away cause a coin to lose a substantial amount of value? If so, I'm a loss for what to do because most coins I come across look like some sort of petri dish breading loads of scary bacteria and germs.
May you be abundantly blessed by God!!

Can you say what makes the coin different? Like what to look for besides the weight? How do we tell with our eyes or do we have to weigh it? My quarter is really yellow all over and the rim is now blackened. Is that a good thing by chance or just lots of aging?

My question is I have lincoln cents I bought in old paper rolls, from the 50's, and 60's, I have never seen pink, yellow, blue, and purple BU, pennies. I really think that they are legitimate rolls, is that considered artificially toned? I'm new at collecting, and I have a lot to learn, I wanted to get some graded but after watching this, I don't know if I would get a details grade artificially toned. Hopefully you'll be able to shed some light on this subject. Thanks, the old guy in Florida 😎😃

I'm old enough to remember penny rolls being in those colors, in fact my friend's 94 yr old mom has alot of them still completely filled, and she has those holders empty in mint condition. If I were you I'd leave them sealed and make them a 500k to million dollar brown bag of coins sold at auction, because those rolls may contain so.e of the rarest pennies!

Ouch. I am personally mourning the loss of several great coins. 😔
They were so icky with black and green filth😣
Suffering from personal or neighboring cases of zinc rot, they were the rejects in the box in the corner. The one's that didn't even make the cut to be rerolled and returned to circulation, but I just didn't have the heart to throw away. For the most part, the dates were not even visible.
I dumped a handful into hot soapy water, rubbed them, rinsed them, and layed them in a single layer in glass cake pan. It had made no difference whatsoever.😞
So I thought about natural cleaners, something with grit. . .
    I decided on baking soda.
Scrubbing each coin individually, between my thumb and forefinger, with baking soda, I could see the black finally breaking down and the coins surface, in some cases, over the majority of the coin.
But there were still really bad patches I could not scrub off. I added vinegar. That did something to them I can't quite put a finger on, but did not aid in the further cleaning of these coins. A couple looked like they could possibly be promising finds, but not in that condition. . .
So I mixed up a weak solution of CLR, thinking it could be calcium, and surely rust was involved, or at least oxidation, in those hideous spots.
I rinsed them off, dropped them in, let them sit a few minutes, rinsed them off again, scrubbing when needed, and marveled at the results. I only started with a few. Satisfied with the results, I dumped the rest in.
The doorbell rang. We went to dinner with friends. We came home and went to bed.
    😳next day
    😢😬
    😭😭😭
That was a couple of weeks ago. The first ones I cleaned have a pourus texture and strange appearance. They are worthless. The ones that spent the night in cleaner. . .they are unrecognizable.
I wish I could post a picture here so no one else ruins a good coin by cleaning it.
But what do you do with really dirty coins?
