Yes. That’s what breaks me about this song. I relate this song to my relationship with my mother, and that ending is heartbreaking for me because it’s how I feel.
The last line “I sit and watch you” is going back to the beginning because the whole song was a scenario in her head. So the clouds went in reverse at the end to depict going back in time since she never moved from watching him.
"did the sky just move in reverse?!" - I never actually noticed that before, thank you so much for that! Yep it did, and it was so symbolic. She does that kind of thing in a lot of her recent official lyric videos but it's SO subtle that not that many of us notice... lol
Aside from the personal sadness of the song, on a more social and/or political level, I feel this song shows why tolerance is usually not enough. When people say "we need to learn tolerance of differences", to me this shows why that will never work to move us forward as a society. I don't want to be tolerated for my differences and what I bring to the table (society). I know and want the rest of society to know what each of brings is important and should be celebrated not just put up with.
