- In this video find out what i eat in a day as I travel to Newcastle in the UK to try a pease pudding stottie! But the challenge for this video, is that I have to do it all in one day. So I take a coach from Leeds, UK to Newcastle, UK, have to find the best pease pudding stottie, try it, and make it back to the coach station in time for my coach out of Newcastle later on in the day. So will I succeed? Or will I fail? Find out in this video!

What other local food is there to try in the UK?
Comment Below 😀
Have you ever tried using a Megabus? They are a coach service like National Express. They are very good value for money. Coach travel is slow compared to trains/planes but it is a useful affordable alternative I'm very grateful for. 😊
For long journeys I sometimes travel overnight and sleep on the coach. Saves paying for a night in a hotel.
Nice vid by the way. 🙂👍
Well I'm a Geordie from Gateshead and even I have to admit you cannit beat eating in the toon so much variety,
And peas pudding and ham stottie. Food of the gods mate
Good video mate
@@everydayimeating3407 a real cornish pastie in Cornwall not Devon
@@everydayimeating3407 when you were in Newcastle you should have also tried “pan Haggerty” and leek pudding washed doon with a bottle of broon 😋
I have an elderly Scottish friend who loves a ham and pease pudding stottie - fabulous ❤
She has it every time she visits me. Pease pudding is normally made (in my family) with a ham /gammon joint. ❤❤
There is another sandwich which is abit old school in Newcastle called the savaloy dip. Next time you come up, try it!
I love how are not pretentious about the the food you are reviewing, you don’t have to be the big I am, you judge it for what it is 👍👍👍
Hi. My Mum always watches you. She is 83 & partially sighted & has to sit very close to her tv, but enjoys the places you visit & all the different foods you try. She always says "put my friend on" but she really wants to know your first name. We live on The Wirral x
Aww that's nice 👍
I love pease pudding. My girlfriend is a Geordie and I was once invited to her late mother's house for tea where she'd made homemade pease pudding. From what I remember she cooked a pork joint with the yellow split peas in a slow cooker where the fats and salt from the meat would then be absorbed by the peas. It was then mashed up and I've got to say that homemade pease pudding tastes so much better than any shop bought pease pudding! I try and get some every time I go up to the north east. Thanks for the video EIE!
Normally a ham rather than pork joint.
The thing is, is it's so easy to make.
Just put a gammon joint into a pressure cooker cover to half way with water. Cook for thirty minutes. Take out and set aside. Top up the water from the meat with water and add yellow spilt peas. Cook for forty five minutes and you've got a very very inexpensive meal and it's so much better than the pease pudding at a shop. As the shop bought stuff is vegan and hasn't got the juices from the meat.
The
Try it, it's really easy.
@@robtudor3785 Yes that's right sorry it was a ham!
@@Zooumberg Thanks will try to make it myself :)
@@TeamCGS2005 good luck. You can do it in an ordinary pan, but I do mine in an instant pot. It's so easy to make it's laughable.
If you add even more water when cooking the split peas, you can make a really nice soup.
Great review from The Toon . Bet you didn't know you've had a medieval dish .. that's how far back pease pudding goes .. pease olde english for pea,and was originally called pottage. A lot of us add a bit of English mustard to a ham and pease pudding scottie... you can also fry pease pudding and the outside goes nice and crispy , can also be used to top a pie instead of mashed potato or pastry .
Peas Pudding and Stottie Cakes are on sale in all parts of the North East England
Pease pudding, also known as pease porridge, is a savoury pudding dish made of boiled legumes, typically split yellow peas, with water, salt and spices, and often cooked with a bacon or ham joint. A common dish in the north-east of England, it is consumed to a lesser extent in the rest of Britain.
Henry VIII had pease porridge long before Newcastle THINK they invented it.
@@granmut Pease pudding is claimed to originate from the medieval era and the name a connotation of the yellow split-peas from which it is made, however its resurgence from the 1820's linked to the growth of the Stockton & Darlington Railway and industry such as coal mining associated with the railway has led to another
Good to have you up here mate 👍👍
Newcastle is a great city!
@@everydayimeating3407 if you come back try smoke n sear on Heaton road just outside the city centre - unreal bbq stuff and guaranteed best hash browns in Newcastle 👍👍
Hello my friend, when I knew you were in Newcastle thought of the Stottie, lovely combo ham & pease pudding & a popular filling. Yes I agree it is hilly there, the rail fare is extortionate, pleased you cut the cost with a massive saving travelling by coach!! Lovely to see you as always, looking forward to watching upcoming videos. Take care 💜💜XX
I didn't know Pease Pudding originated in Newcastle? In the 70s when I had an after school job at the local supermarket in London, an elderly lady called Lill came in every evening for a small tin of pease pudding and a quarter of black pudding for her tea. Bless. She was probably born in the 19th century and lived through WW1. I always associate pease pudding with Lill. I tried it once, not much flavour, but didn't know it was served cold in a sandwich. The stottie did look nice. And yes, train fares are ridiculously high. London next for David Beckham's favourite Pie & Mash at Manzies? On the Coach?
It didn't, big headed Newcastle always likes to take the glory for anything and everything.
Danke für das Video. Sie zeigen immer Sehenswürdigkeiten und nicht nur das Übliche. Danke.Bitte passen Sie auf sich auf,es sind schwierige Zeiten.😊
Train prices are just a joke and something needs to be done about it. For all the bleating about cars' impact on the environment the government does nothing to either subside or improve rail prices so that people actually feel inclined to choose them over car.
I couldn't go on a coach like that as I'd have a panic attack
I think I can manage 3 hours or so on a coach but if its a 6 hour couch trip. Not sure if I could take that
@@everydayimeating3407 the government should have at least done something with rail fares in the same way they did with the £2 bus fares. Why not make all rail fares (outside of to/from central London) 50% cheaper or something? Even if it were a short term thing, it's still something that might encourage people to consider rail travel
@@PotatoPirate123we aren't all wet lettuces who have panic attacks
@@Mcc19777 what is this comment even supposed to achieve? Expensive trains are ok because buses shouldn’t give you panic attacks? It doesn’t even make sense.
I find trains cheap to be honest... If you're more organised and buy in advance, look for deals and take advantage of discount cards, it's very good value.
Hello I live here in Newcastle, I commend your intrepidness, Newcastle is an unusual place for some, plus this is a sparsely populated area of England, I think like less than 4-5% of total population of country live up this way in NE England, underpopulated. As cities come in my opinion it punches way above its size, not a big city compared with others but we have better architecture and landmarks, we have an excellent Metro Train system, also we have pretty good parks and large open green spaces. If you come up again you would appreciate the Grainger Market. Northumberland has great food also if you can get up there, Craster Kippers are a must, and you can get excellent in high demand crab sandwiches. Thanks for promoting the City
Made think about old nursery poem, peas pudding hot peas pudding cold, that's good for a old lady!
Sandwich looked really delicious. Was the bread buttered? We used to have pease pudding out of a tin with our Sunday roast during my 1980's London childhood and I never liked it. But I like most of what I hated then so I really must give pease pudding a grown-up try!! Incidentally, I'm glad you didn't give us a National Express toilet review as in my experience using one is like trying to wee in an earthquake 😰😰
luv Newcastle great city great people, great pies, China town is funny, forgot good beer, nice review
China town/Stowell street isn't the same anymore now that the Palace Garden restaurant and the supermarkets have closed
We used to have a large coach station but it got demolished. It was opposite St. James’ Park and Newcastle Breweries.
Deffo better off on the couch, rob dogs them trains. Great vid, love Newcastle lovely people..
That looked interesting
Until next time take care 🤗🍀
Thanks, you too!
Newcastle castle, that was just the castle keep, the actual castle was a lot bigger there are still parts of the castle wall around Newcastle.
Hello, interesting food trip, I never heard or read about this sandwich before.... Probably typical of Newcastle.... Greetings from Italy 😉
Greetings! 😀
Coming from Newcastle I know all about “ Ham and peas pudding stottie” bloody scrumptious chap. I love peas pudding 👌👌😋😋
We've a few local foods in Scotland, such as Lorne sausage, white pudding, Cullen skink and tablet. I live in Glasgow but these foods are available throughout Scotland but possibly too far for a day trip. I've been following for a while but my first comment. I enjoy your laid-back approach. Train prices are insane unless you can book ahead with a railcard. Please keep doing what you're doing I enjoy each and every video. I've visited Newcastle a few times and always buy some Pease Pudding from Grainger Market but wasn't aware of the Stottie. I'm originally from London and regularly had Pease Pudding at teatime growing up in the 60's and no Northern/North Eastern roots as far as I'm aware
The stottie is worth a try for sure!
Well pease pudding originated in the North East so someone in your family must have connections somewhere ..😊
@@Ionabrodie69 No one is left to ask now
That sandwich looked amazing! So fresh and tasty and filling.
You could tell it was a freshly made good video glad you enjoyed how about Cornwall for some proper corniche pasties mind you ,, you would have to set off really early something to think about !!!!
That would be a long trip!
Its called pea dhall here in sunny Ethekweni KZN RSA,home of the Durban Bunny Chow.
A quite substantial and delicious looking sandwich! 👍😊 I'm looking forward to being surprised by your next food journey. 👍
Coming soon!
I remember up in Stockton having to queue up for a hot roast pork and pease pudding stottie, it was lush. Also something to try around the boro area is the local saveloys, savoury ducks which are actually similar to those Mr Brains west country meatballs but far better and of course the locally made pease pudding. Cheers
Suggestion for a future challenge. Fly to Cologne-Bonn airport from Manchester then a 20 minute train ride into Cologne (€3.60). It's a 5 minute walk from the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) across the front of the Cathedral and then take a left to Fruh am Dom which is a traditional Brauhaus where you can try their pork knuckle (Schweinehaxe). You won't be disappointed.
Sounds great!
I would love to see a q&a where we get to learn more about you and what made you start TH-cam 😊❤
Train prices are a bloody liberty. Well done for making savings.
Coach journeys can be nice and relaxing, especially if it's a nice day. I can't comment on the food because I don't eat any of the items, and I'm allergic to peas. Glad you enjoyed it, though.
Great video
I live in Whitley Bay (just 10 miles from Newcastle) and doi like a pease pudding and ham sandwich, although haven't had one for a while .. must try again soon.
i thought you were going to mention a very cheap bus ticket, but I don't think £23 is that good. I've just looked up train fares, advanced tickets from Leeds to Newcastle for next week (as an example) and return train fares were priced at £25 - £43
Hi friend, that sandwich looks well nice 😊I would have had one twice the size lol😊
Cheers for the video, enjoyed that, the ham peas stottie looked tasty, I'd definitely order that that and I'd enjoy it, does look filling for that piece. Look forward to your next adventure man
Thanks!
👍
Geordie Pease pudding is far better than the tin variety you can get. Two big Pease pudding producers in the area Durham foods of Durham and Dicksons of South Shields i prefer the Durham one myself
I know they supply Aldi and Lidl so look for it next time your there
Will do!
So that's what peas pudding is. Now I know what the song means. Thanks for the upload. Bread looks great.
The Return of The Coach Ticket sounds like a film title 😅
Hahahaha!
I was looking to go to Manchester from London by train for a day for September, couldn't believe the prices, absolutely absurd, so be travelling by coach
Had to click on this newcastle is an amazing city
Wow what a difference between how you travelled vs the train fair, a nice videp.
I would imagine more people use Megabus or Flixbus because they are more centrally located in Newcastle, certainly closer to The Big River Bakery.
Hello 👋 EIE
That looked like a mighty fine sandwich 🥪 thanks for sharing your day 😊
Thanks for watching!
That sandwich looked really good.👍 I need to try one myself.🙂
You should!
Ham peas pudding with a good dollop of English mustard is the best, still a great review mate, keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I need to try it with mustard next time!
I make a real good split pea with ham soup, here in the US. It's thick and hearty. I could thicken it further and it would be like a stottie for sure...just split some ciabatta bread and that would do it. It sounds great. I'd try making it with yellow peas!
It originates in the North East of England.. and the stottie is the bread 👍🇬🇧
@@Ionabrodie69 thank you!
When I was a kid in the eighties living in Sunderland we ate tongue and pease pudding stotties. Yes tongue, works better than ham. Yumm 😂
When I was in Newcastle it was peas pudding and saveloy, that peas pudding isn't half heavy 😂
As a Geordie I must be one of a rare breed that doesn't like peas pudding. I love other sandwiches in a stottie though
An idea ... review the precursor to UK fast food joints.. The Wimpy!
I love Newcastle
Me too!
Ham n peas pudding stottie, the king of sarnies 😋
The train prices are ridiculous in this country. I'm in W. Yorks and never heard of peas pudding or stottie but will definitely try if I get to Newcastle. Looks like it would fill you for hours.
Its worth a try for sure!
Just looked up journey from ebbsfleet in dartford to Stratford London, is on fast train takes 10 mins, £22.00 if you please! Plus 10 quid to park, think I’ll give it a miss. Would love to see Westfield shopping mall but that is ridiculous .
Err if you book in advance you can get the return price by train down to under £30.00 took me less than a couple of minutes to find.
You should travel to Whitby or Scarborough for fish and chips on the Coastliner Bus it’s only £2 each way !!
Thats a bargain!
Welcome to gods country my man, hope you enjoy your stay here! Get out and about and chat to people, we are a very friendly bunch up here 👌
From the north east but I can’t remember ever eating one. Parmo is another item well worth eating.
The wingers are out today. Wow. 😂. Aussie Bob ❤
Here's what my American friends say about trains in the UK: "They're so inexpensive and reliable!" As Albert said, "Everything is relative."
Trains must be ridiculously expensive in America?
I live in Durham getvpease pudding all the time a full stottie lasts me four days a bottle of pop and a piece of fruit perfect packed lunch
Its a hearty sandwich!
Take it to another level by having a cup of tea with it, best sarnie going.
National express has always been much better value compare to rail. Great video, is that a new camera?
I agree! I've been using the same camera for a while now
Try a Parmo in Middlesbrough. You won't regret it!
A bottle of Brown Ale would have finished that off nicely
Trains in this country are a complete rip off. If you are travelling any distance at all it's nearly always cheaper on coach or indeed to fly !
Very true!
Thanks man. I’m hungry again. Aussie Bob 😊
Totaly agree with your entire day out.Train Prices are simply too expensive. 1 year ago i was near the Newcastle Bridge but never tried your lunch. It was superb almost 'incredable value' how many food reviewers if ever review a £3 lunch? Such a great day out in superb weather😅
Exactly!
Hi from sunny Los Angeles🙋♀️
Looked like a tasty sandwich. Being an American though, that sandwich looked under-filled. 😂
I bet the sandwiches in America are massive!
We don’t gorge ourselves in Britain.. probably why we don’t have obesity problem you have.( although it’s getting there as kids spend too much time eating American imported junk food and sitting on their arses looking at their phones ) 🤨
Devon/Cornwall for the best cream tea. Bit of a train journey from Leeds though.
Its a bit of a trip going to Devon/Cornwall. Not sure if I can even do it in a day lol
Yet you stood on another iconic bridge the swing bridge classed as the first swing bridge and the oldest in existence that still operates although these days not very often
Big River ham and pease pudding stotty is as good as you get. Rivals Greggs of Gosforth from the 70/80s
Its a great bakery!
Another great food adventure.
It was!
Much better value on the coach, even with the extra travelling time.
I agree!
Crusty bun , Wiltshire ham , peas pudding, Colmans mustard ..walkers crisps ..my absolute go to bait for a 40 yr work life at Rownrtree Macintosh..one of the finest employers this country has ever had ! …( that was until the Swiss megalomaniacs came )…

14:16 what is up with the state of that road?!?!
Very nice I could almost taste the stottie ,although I had pickle in my illusion .
Try a Savaloy dip ,the king of sandwickes .
Greggs used to do a ham and pease pudding stottie but took it off the menu because it wasn't selling 🤷♀️
You work hard so we don’t have to finding these places👍🇬🇧
Another entertaining video keep up the great work mate could you maybe do a couple of £50 challenges I think they would do really well with all your new subs
Thankyou it looked different . take care
Thanks, you too!
I learnt years ago that Yorkshire folks are frightened of tryin Pease pudding .
Pease pudding hot
Pease pudding cold
Pease pudding in the pot
Nine days old
Tate’s fish and chips, Boston Lincolnshire 😊
Should have put pepper and colmans mustard on the stottie
So, is it a river or it is the sea?
We thought you were going for a chicken parmo, which is delicious 😋
Next time!
Parmos are from ‘boro though
Staffordshire oat cakes! 😊
hmm never tried a stottie, looks yum though.
Its a great sandwich!
Pease Pudding and ham used to be a standard meal.
Bury Black Pudding. Bakewell Tart.
All that way for a sandwich? It had to be good! 😂

Three hours?...enough time for ten pints and a stottie cake, geordie breakfast of champions.😁
Melton Mowbray for a pork pie
As long as you had a decent legroom then YES the coach
The leg room was good! Better than a Ryanair flight!
I thought this was Newcastle in Australia initially….
That shop is in Shieldfield
The train ticket would have been much less if you’d been able to book a month in advance.
