    Another option for the tyres - 3d print a negative mould and use black silicone caulk mixed with cornflour for the rubber. The cornflour makes it set faster and gives it a dark grey rather than pure black colour. I used it to make some tyres for a Tamiya XR311 and they look pretty good.

    • @TryptychUK
      @TryptychUK 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Resione make an excellent flexible resin which is great for tyres.
      It's also paintable.

      That's kind of what I'm thinking of. The cornflour thing I haven't heard of before - sounds fascinating... 🤔😎

      @@StaplesandVine Just print it. Be sure to have a heater though, it is VERY viscous, so you need it to be about 30C+ and supports need to be heavier because everything flexes as it gets heavier.

      @@StaplesandVine I've seen caulk and corn flour used to make phone cases. I'm doubtful about the quality of phone cases, but as RC tyres, it does not sound that bad 😅

  • @TryptychUK
    @TryptychUK 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It seems you are having hassles removing the supports.
    I remove all mine after washing, but before curing, when the resin is still soft.
    It makes life a lot easier.

    • @StaplesandVine
      @StaplesandVine  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I normally do as you do but filming stuff for TH-cam tends to dictate when I can get to the prints. 🥴 Sometimes the prints sit around for a few days and naturally post cure.

      @@StaplesandVine I would, but it's not always that easy. Parts get too thin to print right. Sometimes making corrections is a huge job.

    Amazing project! I'm looking forward to purchasing the files for a build of my own!
    Is it possible to mold the tires from the resin negatives? There are moldable plastics with a black/grey hue that may serve you well.

    Why don't you just print the tyres in flexible resin/tpu?

    • @StaplesandVine
      @StaplesandVine  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is an idea but print quality, material cost, and print failure rate make moulding and casting a far better option.... Have you ever tried to get a rough rubber surface smooth?

      @@StaplesandVine I've printed plenty of wheels in flexible (rubberised) resin that needed no more cleanup than any other resin print. Printing quality isn't an issue, material costs aren't much more than abs-like resins.

      I'll certainly take a look. Can you recommend a good resin? it will be fascinating to do a comparison. 🤔😎

      Currently using Siraya tech tenacious flex. Fx60 is OK, liqcreate flexible-x is great but more expensive

      Flexible-X is by far the most rubber-like, it's quite elastic as well.

    A real beauty this one, and it's not even painted or weathered yet.

    I have a few ideas, firstly for the screens. Since you'd technically need to get lights in all the marine status screens, look into LED panels so that you can just slide that behind it as a single unit that will light up the entire screen board. Secondly, for the tires i think you should be able to make a mold by using the tire file and reversing it to then just casting the tire in black silicone so it has that "sticky" rubber feeling to it.
    Cant wait to see the next one, this beast is gorgeous and as a builder myself im blown away but the amount of detail and smart work you're putting into this tribute to one of the best vehicle designs ever made.

      Yes I had looked into the one big screen idea. It would liook great but I have near zero depth to play with and in 1/24 scale there is little room for manoeuvre. I think re the tyres casting in soft rubber will be the route I first go down. I think we will all learn a lot from the final result. 🙂

      @@StaplesandVine I was thinking about the depth as well, i guess the other alternative would be light filament noodles, or maybe LED strips (they're about the size of the screens too) but im worried the strips might be WAY too bright however.
      Best of luck sir, we're all eagerly awaiting the next step.

    For the Rubber-Tires u could print them as a Mould and use a Urethan that cures soft!

    • @StaplesandVine
      @StaplesandVine  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is actually a really good idea, certainly not a method I had thought of..... 😎🤔

      @@StaplesandVine Check out videos on how Real big Tyres are made! It should give u an Idea on how to design the Mould. I wouldnt recomment a One Piece Mould, because the Tyre has many Undercuts due to the Grooves.
