Buckle up, kids, PonyCam’s got hold of a keyboard again… 🙈 In the joyous spirit of social media, I’ve already received some disheartening comments/messages about my riding on some of the photos from this xc lesson that I posted before this video went live (not from trolls or ‘haters’, just from fellow riders), and while it doesn’t really matter, I’d still like to put a few things into perspective: This video is not of my 5* debut at Burghley Horse Trials. I’m a once-a-week riding school rider just out having some fun. I am inexperienced when it comes to cross country and because of this, I have a qualified instructor teaching, helping and encouraging me every time I ride. This was my first time taking this (also inexperienced) horse xc, which meant I had no idea what to expect. There are times in this lesson where I was taken by surprise at the horse’s take off point, but slipped my reins whenever there was tension as I always do in those ‘oh s**t!’ moments (of course this can be hard to tell from mid-action photos, but I usually find giving the rider the benefit of the doubt is the kind thing to do). Slipping my reins (something that is normal when riding drop/step fences) means that the horse did not get caught/pulled, regardless of what I was up to in the saddle (and lets be real here, he’s not wearing a flash, it would be pretty obvious to see if he were uncomfortable with anything I was doing on the other end of the reins). I enjoy sharing photos and videos that I am proud of, even though my riding might not live up to other people’s personal standards or look particularly pretty, and as a casual ‘for fun’ rider I am never going to ride as well as other more popular or famous riders both on and off social media, which is A-ok with me. It’s eternally frustrating that (the minority of) people expect perfection at all times, particularly as I try to make a point of always posting my fails as well as my more successful moments, and I’m sad that some people have found my riding in this lesson so disappointing - for me, cross country riding at any level is about being effective, not looking pretty, which keeps both horse and rider safe. Both Magic and I had a brilliant & safe time, both grew in confidence throughout, and both hacked home with massive smiles on our faces, which at the end of the day, is all that matters 👌 x
I also ride once a week for an hour. I read this whole thing and I think some riders needs to chill on the criticism. It's not like you own your horse and arena so you can ride everyday, what else do they expect? It takes so much longer to get it just perfect when you only ride once a week. Don't listen to those few people trying to put you down because riding is a hobby which is all for fun x
My absolute favourite part of this video is your instructor just saying “Go on! Have a gallop! Why not?! Enjoy this bit!” It just warms my heart that you have such a fun and joyous woman teaching you ❤️
I love how at the start Magic was just like "What, why are we going back down again? I just took you up here! Oh no that looks scary from up here, no thanks, I'll stay at this level!"
I love how happy and relaxed you look in those pictures/raws, I always make the most horrible faces because I'm so focused on what to do x) I would've been so scared to gallop that jump tho! But it looked like you both enjoyed it :P
I don't ever comment on videos but I just wanted to let you know your riding videos are a joy to watch. I haven't been riding for about 10 years now and I miss it very much. It's lovely seeing you and the horses enjoying yourselves 🙂

the weirdest filler ive jumped was tons of feed buckets piled up😂we had to make do with what we had and it ended uo being a very spooky filler because of all the colours!

QOTD: I commented last time, but I've jumped another odd filler. It was a little teddy bear! No one questioned why my instructor brought it in, but we all (just about) managed to jump it! It was a fairly low jump, and the bear was no bigger than it. One girls horse ran round it, then refused, but she got over it eventually! Sorry I'm late! Love you ❤ 🐎
Robin wasn’t riding in this particular lesson. Zubie tripped in the arena a couple of weeks ago with another rider and came up slightly lame, he’s fine now but he’s just coming back into lessons slowly (as he’s an old boy now) so Robin’s been riding a couple of the other ponies in lessons in the meantime 😊
QOTD: I still didn't start jumping since I am in a riding school and i go two days in a week and started before few months so yeah.. am I started cantering and little bit of galloping too :3
All the riding school horses & ponies and working liveries in the riding school wear branded pads, it's just a bit smarter than having all different colours :-)
You'd have thought so, I was certainly expecting him to have no trouble, but from the outset it was clear he had pretty much no clue about steps and drops and was also a bit confused by the water at first. I think he was more of a hedge-hopper in his hunting days! ❤️

Scared?! This horse is a very experienced jumper and used to hunt over massive hedges! I don’t think a few 50cm fences & drops is exactly ‘pushing him’.
Emoji Queen She’s not at all, she just knows when to push and when to praise to get you to ride better! You can hear her giving lots of praise throughout the video too 😊
