Hello! Friendly PSA: As always, looking forward to the comments that say “omg how did you even fall off though” or “you could have stayed on” (like I didn’t even try not to fall and actually quite fancied a little late morning plunge into the freezing water...) 💦🙃 Please understand, I don’t care if you won national champs on your dad’s uncle’s friend’s dog’s wild mustang that you broke in yourself and have never fallen off - if you land after a fence without stirrups, on the right hand side of the saddle, behind the horses big canter movement with your reins on the buckle, and the horse then immediately dodges to the left while you’re already halfway out of the right side/back door with nothing to grab on to, you’re going to fall, because physics exists 😁👍 x
Facts and omg how dare you! My dads uncle’s, friends, dog’s, squirrels, neighbours, dentists son wild mustang i broke would NEVER make me fall off cause im such an *amazing* rider. ;3
Well said. I think people forget that watching a video of someone falling is wayy different from experiencing it first hand. No matter how great of a rider you are falling off is a part of riding. I am currently a horse riding instructor and I fell off a few weeks ago on a horse I have ridden for 4 years. Stuff happens and it is never a embarrassing thing to fall off in my opinion. It is all about learning from the fall. Saying that someone is a worse rider because they fell off is really silly. Plus if you have never fallen off a horse you have not experienced having to go through the struggle of getting back on a horse after you have had that shock which I think is a big part of ridding and a big part of becoming a better rider.
"You kicked him, you kicked him!" Come on, seriously lmfao. You hooked a leg around him because he moved, as we all do. Hardly a kick. I give you a lot of credit for sharing your rides because the amount of armchair experts in this sport is unbelievable. Lot of Olympians out there somehow. 🤪
hybris eris Caught the numnah too, not even his body (and by accident at that), but clearly that’s unacceptable in some people’s eyes! I’m sure they’d do much better in the circumstances 🙃🙈
My instructor: “ Are you in control.” Me: “DO I LOOK LIKE I’M IN CONTROL? DO I REALLY?!” Me saying this whilst my pony is bucking around the course and I have lost my stirrups AND I was on his neck with really long reins. So to answer your question . No, no I’m not in control .
I fell off for the first time in my own horse yesterday and it wasn't too bad. I got back on again and I was very happy that she didn't run over the top of me or run off she just waited for me to get back up. Thanks for showing me your experience you're a great rider and very brave for getting back on after landing in the water!
I felt a bit anxious watching this video again so I can't imagine how you felt going through this in real life 😲 I admire so much the fact you stayed calm and ready to process that fast what was going on ❤️
Well that was an eventful ride!! QoTD: I basically fell of 3 times in one ride. I was at a show on a shetland who I had brought back into work after him having 5yrs off riding. I was the only one he trusted and I was the only one who could do anything with him. I slowly brought him back to work, and our yard was holding a show. We entered a class that was full of horses (they were like 15.2h - about 17h) and came 2nd. So far so good. Doing the lap of honour, something happened but it made him spook and I fell off. I got back on and started walking him around the warm up field and he bolts again. He serves around a fence 90° ish and serves again. The saddle slipped and I fell off again, landing on my hip. A friend of my mums told me I had to get back on. I didnt want to but she basicslly forced me to get back on. I got on, and he surged forwards. I wasnt entirely expecting this so I fell off again. I didnt ride for 6months after that due to sheer confidence loss. Safe to say he got fully retired after that, but our bond never broke ❤🐴 (Sorry for the long story🤣) xx
Just look at Herbie strutting like a peacock. Always a pleasure watching your videos. Whether you realize it or not, you do inspire those of us who are timid or lack confidence. Please never stop posting.
I had a crazy horse before, especially in the cross country course. Whenever the head tossing started and she would only trot - that became my sign of: if you want to live, get off and because I am not a super confident rider I ended up giving her to my friend. You're so much braver than me.
I'm a disabled rider. I owned a Peruvian Paso for about 12 years, a wonderful horse that was bonded to me and looked out for me and that was the only reason I never came off him. I have terrible balance because of a twisted spine and uneven hips, and there were numerous times where he felt me going off balance and would "catch" me with his shoulder or an extra step. But I've ridden enough horses to know that falling is part of riding. It just is. Anyone who would scoff that good riders don't fall hasn't ridden enough. And cross-country in particular is rough! I love the enthusiasm the horse has for his job; it's truly heartwarming to see.
I used to have a horse called Herby 😢😪 he died of cancer a year ago 😢😭 but he was in a lot of pain so I sometimes think it was better that he got put down. I live ur vids by the way! ❤️
Qotd: i fell of four times in ten minutes 😂 the horse I was riding thought to be at the Olympics or something, because she started to overjump and bucking, full of excitement... I had cramps the third time I fell off 😂 so, another rider (way better than me) tried to jump her and she almost fell too hahaha Gosh, I loved so so much that mare
QOTD: Twice 😔 My saddle slipped I I rolled off the side and then we were going down a steep hill and my pony sped up and I slipped off the side again 🤦
Yep, that is why I decided to lunge mine before work, after I fell off during a canter due to his excitment on my last ride. He is pretty young (5yrs old) and he is very good, but with my lack of experience I prefer to have him more relaxed. Good idea to swap horses; as you said, is not always necessary to get up on the same horse in a situation like yours
u improved so much. Fresh horses are so cheeky! I love cross country, last time I did it I rode this fresh little pony who bolted off with me :) 😂😂also I’m somewhat early 😂😂
My nerves are so bad watching this because i know how scary it is feeling out of control when you’re xc.. Last summer I was doing a double of two small logs and the horse i was riding, also called Herbert, did 3 strides where it was meant to be 5 (without me asking) and I hadn’t ridden him much yet.. it was the scariest lesson ive ever had because i just felt like i had no control!
I fell off twice in a lesson on a horse called Laddie as well 😂 He loves jumping and it was the first time he refused so I wasn't expecting it and I fell 🙈 The second time I just lost balance and fell on my side which I took a month off riding for, 3 days off school and an X Ray. Was VERY painful the day after especially 😭
I fell off twice in a lesson on a horse called trooper. A horse banged on the stall door it scared trooper he bolted then I fell. Then he bolted in the same spot I lost a stirrup but I was still on then trooper bucked almost went head first into the wall.
Thank you for doing this video!! I enjoyed hearing what you were thinking and what you were feeling through out it! QOTD: I fell off 3 times in a lesson once. The first and second times, I fell off going over a jump and the third time the horse i was riding got too out of control and ran straight into the other horse in the lesson, which made the horse i was riding annoyed so she bucked and i was off again!
Oh boy, how exciting. I've ridden a horse like that, and I absolutely love her, but she is forward and will take off like a shot if you give her the command. If you come out of the canter, and you are tense in anyway, she will go back up into trot. She's not a disobedient horse, she just loves to go, and takes tenseness as a cue to go. I've really had to learn to master my nerves on her, but I do love her, she is so wonderful to ride.
I lost count of the amount of times I fell off cross country one day but I know it was more than 10 😂 I learned the lesson that sometimes it is too dangerous to continue and you should just leave it when the horse is having a bad day that hard way! At least you were smart and decided to leave him after fall number 2 😂
QOTD: I was about nine and I was on a little pony called lottie who was a little green at the time (I was also quite novice!) we were doing canter poles and lottie bolted over them the first time and tripped on one of the poles so I fell off. Then, we did another lot of poles and she stopped dead so I fell off again 😂 THEN I was swapped onto a little cob called flash and he bucked me off so I just watched for the rest of the lesson!! It was very embarrassing but I was okay! Love you ❤️❤️❤️
the first log you jumped reminds me of last lesson i had i jumped and cantered for the first time which was alot easier then expected but was still a little hard. somehow i did not fall of when the horse refused the third time. it was super fun and im really excited on next lesson. do you have any tips for cantering or jumping?
Omg I have fell soooooooo many times, once I was at a lesson and I was doing grids and my horse balked and I went over the jump but my horse troted off, I was kinda mad, but watching her troting of with her tail up was so funny!!!😂😂🐎🤦🏼♀️
I love this video. I felt so bad for you. I know how it feels so I understand how cold you must have been. Its even worse when it's really cold outside 😂❄️
I enjoyed it only because as soon as there is a chill in the air they literally go buck wild , I was dumped off 2 weeks ago and couldn't get back on cuz my leg hurt way too much so I've just been doing ground work, they are so powerful we sometimes forget we weigh nothing to them.
Those haters have no idea what they're talking about. You handled that situation SOO well! I really enjoyed this video! Please do more of these if you have time! Could you get Robin to do some voiceovers of her rides if she wants to as well? I think that would be super interesting! Love your videos! they keep my horse deprived self sane! ❤️
We have a 'laddie' on our yard called Scarlet who is exactly the same as the one you get swapped onto 😊 such a lovely gem of a horse. 💖 P. S I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hits the deck more than once in a session every so often!
Ex eventer and box rest 😆 those ears say it all haha. Bless him, you did well, I fell off in water and its horrible it was a hot day but my clothes dried off and stuck to me 😖 I also had little bits of dirt and stones in my clothing.
I've never taken my pony xc yet but I'm hoping to get a stronger bit before since she can get a bit cheeky when jumping and has bolted off with me hacking and I think it will be quite exciting when we mix the two so I'd like to have a bit of control 😂
We were having a gallop around the arena and my stirrup leather ripped, so I lost balance and was to the point where I was almost on the neck of the horse, and I didn’t want to risk anything so I let go and backflipped off onto the sand. I didn’t really notice anything happening to the stirrup leather and neither did the instructor, so I got back on and fell off the same way. My head hurt so badly for the whole day, and I still had to get through the rest of the school day.
I fell and didn’t get back on to jump which meant that I lost my confidence jumping so I see how important it is to get back on again ( I have my confidence back now but unfortunately I can’t jump due to the corona virus)
QOTD: twice the first time he bolted over a tiny cross pole and jumped it massive and because I’m tiny on him I couldn’t really grip and fell off then after that tried to go over a pole and my mum stood to the side so he couldn’t dodge it but instead he bolted and swerved round her and I fell off and broke my elbow
Lol I totally feel you! The amount of times I fall off is kind of pathetic. (I manage to get bucked off and bolted on by every single horse at my barn lol) In fact I’ve gotten bucked off while trying a new barn, (but that a fun story for another day) but I’m lucky enough to have never fallen off while on the XC course (I’m a hunter rider but I when I vacation every summer I ride at the same barn and on their XC course) but I’m sure it coming for me lol. As many of us equestrians like to say: Falling off is a matter of when not if! 😂
Only ever fallen off twice in one ride, but when I was 6 I got a 4 yr old pony and must've fallen off him like 1-2 times a month for like a good like 2-3 years while he was learning lead changes and other Very Exciting things haha. After that it was maybe once every 4-8 months I'd say. Taught me how to fall quite efficiently and gracefully tho. I'd say I'm quite experienced that hitting the dirt haha
QOTD- only once in a single ride, and only 3 times total. I've been riding since I was 10, and I'm 30 now. My instructor says my seat is made of glue lol which was great for me but also not, because any horse that decided to be naughty, she put me on! Only times I've ever fallen were the day I got my horse - it was a show, she was gifted to me (had been leasing her so I knew her well) and I was just so excited that I popped her over a warmup jump at a bad angle, lost my stirrup and then she tripped on the landing lol off I went! I fell off the next day at lessons too- not her fault. Playing follow the leader and the horse in front of her kicked the pole toward her face. I predicted she would dodge right, but she went left and off I went again 😂 3rd time was a friends horse I was thinking of buying. I wasnt used to her saddle and he spooked- I just remember looking down and I was a good 4 feet above the saddle, thinking, "oh god this is gonna hurt' and ended up landing on my right hip. So much pain!!!! That was probably 10 years ago, haven't fallen off since!
wish that’s really impressive lol i supposedly have a good seat yet i’ve fallen off 17 times in the span of 4 years (i’ve been riding for 5 but didn’t fall off at all the first year)
I fell once a few months ago, my lease horse is aggressive towards other horses and someone was lungeing in the arena, so we were cantering and he lunged at the horse which unbalanced me. I pulled him to the side and tried to find my seat but he put his head all the way down and stopped really fast so I flew over XD ended up with a concussion- of course didn’t know that right away so I hopped back on! 😋
I hate to say this but that was really funny I’m sorry that’s kind of rude but congratulations for falling off twice and into water and also props to you for getting back on the horse and jumping the other one
I remember watching this when you uploaded it! I actually felt a bit nervous for you watching hehe. Where are you based? The guy in front on your way home looks familiar x
I was on a pony going cross country for the first time. The pony was new to the barn and I had only a year of English riding experience. I live in the U.S and I did western before English. We didn't know if he had been xc or not and he was the only pony available for me to ride. We went through the water first bc it was hot. He put his head straight down and bumped his bum up a bit. I wouldn't say it was a fall it was more so a slide off lol. But anyway we went to our first little jump and I was just showing him the jump at first. He jumped straight up and back down with his head down over it and that was the first Tim I actually fell. I was a bit shaken bc I wasn't expecting it. After that he was just being naughty and hot headed so I just walked him around for a bit. I decided to jump some more jumps and he did fine. The last jump I went over I fell the same was as the first jump. ( left side of my head and shoulder) And something just didn't feel right so I got on and walked him back to the trailer. I later went to urgent care then the hospital and I had broken my collar bone. Sorry for the long explanation but I guess its kind of similar to yours.
i’ve actually never fallen off😂 i’ve had a couple of bolts, bucks, and rears, including small spooks. pretty much anything but i’ve never fallen off. lol. do you believe that you have to fall off a certain amount of times to be a real rider?♥️
Panda Plays Games not at all, just means you sort of prepared yourself for the bucks/bolts ,or you just have a great seat and balance😂 And it also depends on the horse and the level/ style of riding
Lizzy Whitaker i usually riding a grey mustang mare. she’s pretty sassy lmao. i’ve only been riding for about 6 or 7 years. but i hear a lot of people saying you have to fall off 6 times before you are a real rider or something like that.
Panda Plays Games you don’t have to fall off more than six times, it really depends on how well you ride your horse and how you handle a situation on when you could possibly fall off, sounds like you can handle your horse when it acts up or does something silly, and lots of people generally fall off because of an accident, it could be a bad one where the horse could fall down or something small like there legs could get a bit tangled up, unbalancing both horse and rider, and the rider could be totally unprepared for it and fall off
Panda Plays Games I personally hate the whole ‘you have to fall off X amount of times’ thing - everyone’s riding journey is different and some will inevitably fall off more than others! Well done for staying on for so long, you should be proud! ❤️❤️
My cheeky little pony mare does this to me! You should have seen me come off 2 times after the SAME JUMP. I kept giving her the a-okay to take a huge distance, and she did the signature pony move, head down between her front legs and crow hop. TWICE! You best believe I was sore 😂
That’s how my 13’1 pony is I always have blisters and her legs go one million miles per hour she’s so fast and over jumps everything( including ground poles)
some one He wasn’t that old, but had some long-term lameness issues from before he joined the riding school. The yard did a great job of keeping him sound and happy for a long time but his issues eventually caught up with him and it was kindest to let him go x
It's a good thing you landed in the water then on the ground because in Cross country they say it's better to land in water than on the ground because the water will break your fall
Hello! Friendly PSA: As always, looking forward to the comments that say “omg how did you even fall off though” or “you could have stayed on” (like I didn’t even try not to fall and actually quite fancied a little late morning plunge into the freezing water...) 💦🙃
Please understand, I don’t care if you won national champs on your dad’s uncle’s friend’s dog’s wild mustang that you broke in yourself and have never fallen off - if you land after a fence without stirrups, on the right hand side of the saddle, behind the horses big canter movement with your reins on the buckle, and the horse then immediately dodges to the left while you’re already halfway out of the right side/back door with nothing to grab on to, you’re going to fall, because physics exists 😁👍 x
PonyCam I love the come back 😂😭❤️
Facts and omg how dare you! My dads uncle’s, friends, dog’s, squirrels, neighbours, dentists son wild mustang i broke would NEVER make me fall off cause im such an *amazing* rider. ;3

Equine Millie Hi Millie, she was agreeing that I DIDN’T kick him, not that I did kick him :-) x
PonyCam ok sorry
hybris eris she was riding with a helmet camera you idiot
My instructor: “ Are you in control.”
Me: “DO I LOOK LIKE I’M IN CONTROL? DO I REALLY?!” Me saying this whilst my pony is bucking around the course and I have lost my stirrups AND I was on his neck with really long reins. So to answer your question . No, no I’m not in control .

I know how that feels
I was nervous watching this lol
Omg your amazing for getting straight back on even after 2 falls x We are all cheering you on ❤︎ Stay Safe xxx

It goes to show you will always get back on! Your a great rider, stay safe! 💖

EM Equestrian she didn’t fall off Laddie 😂
Emma’s Equine19 um yeah I know I was saying I was riding a horse also called laddie 🙄
EM Equestrian lol ok fair enough no need for the attitude
I fell off twice in a lesson on a horse called trooper. A horse banged on the stall door it scared trooper he bolted then I fell. Then he bolted in the same spot I lost a stirrup but I was still on then trooper bucked almost went head first into the wall.
Emma’s Equine19 she wouldn’t have to have an attitude if you learned to read properly.

For the quarantine are you doing throwbacks??? I love them
your voiceover actually makes sense, whereas I just ramble on and on about nothing even remotely sensical
Absolutely love voiceover-videos 😍 also, are you wearing safety vests when doing xc? That second fall looked painful 😥
Märta Jansson Yes we can’t go XC schooling unless we are wearing a body protector.
I lost count of the amount of times I fell off cross country one day but I know it was more than 10 😂 I learned the lesson that sometimes it is too dangerous to continue and you should just leave it when the horse is having a bad day that hard way! I just found your channel and I love this video so much!!!!
I have never done cross country but it looks really fun
Oh no! I really hope your ok, looks a bit scary!!!🤭❤️ happy you still got up though x
I ride at the same riding school as you Claire i am in the intermidiate plus group after your ride you inspire me so much 🐴🐴

Its the fact he is so proud of himself when walking home 😂
Ellie Witheford I don’t think I’ve ever seen a horse happier with himself 😂 Loved him for it! ❤️
I love this video. I felt so bad for you. I know how it feels so I understand how cold you must have been. Its even worse when it's really cold outside 😂❄️
Augustina Waterdotter I was FREEZING! The strong winds blew right through me after I’d been dunked! 🥶
@@PonyCam I fell off during the warm up and we had another 55 minutes to go. We ended up walking through the water to get the horses used to it 😂❄️💦

Worth their weight in gold, aren’t they!! ❤️
HERBIE
You're so brave!!
Yay! First comment also it’s nice to know why it happened
Where is this? Is it a riding school? It looks like an amazing place and the horses all seem really nice❤️
Herbie prancing home his brain: I got Claire of my back twice :) yippee
Only Equines! He was one happy horsey! 😁
I love ur vids you and your vids are soooooo great
Great video. Nice to have a voice over. QOTD: In lessons ive only fallen off once but have almost fallen off alot of times.
I just love your video’s
Ex eventer and box rest 😆 those ears say it all haha. Bless him, you did well, I fell off in water and its horrible it was a hot day but my clothes dried off and stuck to me 😖 I also had little bits of dirt and stones in my clothing.
I laughed at this video so much when I saw it lol😂
Jamielynn Cassidy Believe me I had a good laugh watching the footage back to the time too 😂
iconic fall
Great riding!
Good video, as always.
Is the water warm?
I know that feeling. Got nervous watching you. 😂
Oh I shivered when you fell into the water
Christmas Ghost Not as much as I did! 😂🥶
I fell and didn’t get back on to jump which meant that I lost my confidence jumping so I see how important it is to get back on again ( I have my confidence back now but unfortunately I can’t jump due to the corona virus)
I can't jump yet because I haven't learnt :( But I'll get there!
Love your channel!
I would love to see you do a voice over about Bounty. I love the bounty video
I love your videos I cant wait to start riding again
I love watching your videos especially when I can’t ride because my stables are closed due to covid19
he is lovely!
I fell off in a really similar way to the first one recently (not into water though thankfully!) Deja vu watching the helmet cam aha
QOTD: Once I was riding my pony bareback and she was just not having it and bucked me off.
I fell off 3 times in one lesson, although 1 of the falls I would like to think of as a graceful dismount as I landed on my feet 😂😂
I predicted she would dodge right, but she went left and off I went again 😂
3rd time was a friends horse I was thinking of buying. I wasnt used to her saddle and he spooked- I just remember looking down and I was a good 4 feet above the saddle, thinking, "oh god this is gonna hurt' and ended up landing on my right hip.
So much pain!!!!
That was probably 10 years ago, haven't fallen off since!
wish that’s really impressive lol i supposedly have a good seat yet i’ve fallen off 17 times in the span of 4 years (i’ve been riding for 5 but didn’t fall off at all the first year)
Hope your ok I fell off today (my horse threw me onto the fence it was so painful lol)
Your so good at riding!!!!!!😊😊😊
Oxfordshire, the XC course is Swalcliffe. The man in front at the end is just a rider/livery owner at my the yard :-) x
What camera do u use x
She uses a GoPro Hero 6, it says in the description xx
Jess the horse oh okay thankyou xx
PonyCam okay! thank you!!♥️
My cheeky little pony mare does this to me! You should have seen me come off 2 times after the SAME JUMP. I kept giving her the a-okay to take a huge distance, and she did the signature pony move, head down between her front legs and crow hop. TWICE! You best believe I was sore 😂
Yayy first !!!!!! Ilysm!
ohh no that’s so unfortunate🙈 he looked like he was loving his life though haha! Just wondering how big is he?xx
Rosie Mae x Yeah he definitely had the time of his life! He was around 16.1hh xx
That’s how my 13’1 pony is I always have blisters and her legs go one million miles per hour she’s so fast and over jumps everything( including ground poles)
Have you ridden herbie recently? x
Valentina Axelion Sadly Herbie passed away at the end of 2018 x
some one He wasn’t that old, but had some long-term lameness issues from before he joined the riding school. The yard did a great job of keeping him sound and happy for a long time but his issues eventually caught up with him and it was kindest to let him go x
It's a good thing you landed in the water then on the ground because in Cross country they say it's better to land in water than on the ground because the water will break your fall
love your vids
