  • Covering some of the toughest vertical terrain Spartan has to offer, the Spartan Mountain Series presented by Air Force Special Ops tests your upper limits. In stop #2 of 7 of the 2019 Mountain Series, racers take on the Big Bear Sprint in California.
Watch Spartan elites Veejay Jones and Ryan Kent leave it all out on the course, and Rea Kolbl and Nicole Mericle fight the elements. Who comes out on top?
Whether it’s scaling a glacier to rescue crash victims or coordinating precision airstrikes against the enemy during an intense firefight, the elite warriors who make up Air Force Special Ops push themselves every day in training, so they’ll be ready for any obstacle thrown at them. No matter how big. That’s why Air Force Special Ops is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Spartan Mountain Series. We believe that every person has it within themselves to reach beyond their mental and physical limits to cross whatever finish line they’re pursuing. Just like Air Force Special Operators, if you’re dedicated and train hard enough, no mountain is ever too big to conquer. Aim High.

why don't they lift the tires like powerlifts do instead of doing it like a deadlift?

It's extremely difficult to stay with the leaders, so big kudos to all cameramen. However, I continue to struggle with the videos editing. What better example than this: at 31:00, when the men's leader is about to do the multi rig, why does the video shift to the women's leader, who is just running by herself? Unfortunately, situations like this happen fairly often. It's super frustrating for viewers!

@dwade no, just bad timing in camera shifts imo

dwade literally what I just said, bad timing switch. They automate cameras in live streams most of the time with a delay, so for example by the time they realized they fucked up, there was probably a 10s delay of them waiting for the command to prompt a camera change.

43:30, why can they step in front of the barrier for the spear? There are some really obvious faults being shown in this. Not dragging the metal plate the whole way, starting helix not on the first area, stepping past the spear barrier. How is this allowed?

The athlete was not stepping in front of barrrier at 43.30, she was besides the barrier but there is a rope between the two barriers which prevents athletes from stepping in front of barrier

why do they need to monitor their heart rates?

As it is an endurance competition having knowledge of your heart rate can give you a number indication of how hard you are working, whether you should push harder or relax slightly. Obviously nothing beats sensory input of feeling pain and strain.
