Our mother never used Jiffy cornbread mix-Evah! Jiffy is sweet and my mother never made sweet cornbread even from scratch. I know some folks (including my niece) put sugar in grits, too, but no. We always had buttermilk cornbread I use it for my cornbread dressing which I am so ready for on Thanksgiving.

I love both collards and cabbage I grew up on both lol I really can’t choose lol ☝🏽However! on Thanksgiving we are most likely have collards and we eat our dressing with the collard greens, so it really don’t be a need for cornbread on thanksgiving and honestly I don’t remember really seeing cornbread on thanksgiving because of all the pans of dressing 😆😆 but any other day I needs my cornbread hot water or buttery sweet baked with my collard greens.
My mama is from North Carolina and she only had fried corn bread growing up, but I grew up in Florida with a lot of my Georgia folk so with that being said. depending on what's being (and who) cooked determined the style of cornbread I ate. It can go either way for me🤷🏾♀️

One of my relatives makes cornbread WITH EVERY MEAL. One month of staying with her and I NEVER have to eat cornbread as a side EVER AGAIN. Boston Market bout the only one that can bring me back.
Homemade cornbread is awesome. Hot water cornbread is basic to me. I love both collards and cabbage but I would go for collards before cabbage. Really depends on if they are cooked right.
Collards hands down. Corn bread is out. My mother was straight out the south, so homemade cornbread was everyday and hotwarer or hush puppies when she fried fish. Thanksgiving and Christmas was homemade yeast dinner rolls.

The best cornbread is buttermilk. I never heard of jiffy until high school. So no thank you are sweet corn bread, sweet grits, and sweet greens.

EJ, same. 1+3 is all I need. 3 has to have a ton of smoked meat in it. I never wait for the cornbread to be done. I may wait for hotwater cornbread, but that's a big maybe. I'll eat dressing too, but if there isn't any, I won't be mad.
I love both collards and cabbage I grew up on both lol I really can’t choose lol ☝🏽However! on Thanksgiving we are most likely have collards and we eat our dressing with the collard greens, so it really don’t be a need for cornbread on thanksgiving and honestly I don’t remember really seeing cornbread on thanksgiving because of all the pans of dressing 😆😆 but any other day I needs my cornbread hot water or buttery sweet baked with my collard greens.

My mama is from North Carolina and she only had fried corn bread growing up, but I grew up in Florida with a lot of my Georgia folk so with that being said. depending on what's being (and who) cooked determined the style of cornbread I ate. It can go either way for me🤷🏾♀️

This is February '22, so I'm late responding. I was taught to cook by my mom. She mixed her greens. So not only collards but, included in the mix are mustards, turnips, & cabbage!

One of my relatives makes cornbread WITH EVERY MEAL. One month of staying with her and I NEVER have to eat cornbread as a side EVER AGAIN. Boston Market bout the only one that can bring me back.
Homemade cornbread is awesome. Hot water cornbread is basic to me. I love both collards and cabbage but I would go for collards before cabbage. Really depends on if they are cooked right.

Collards hands down. Corn bread is out. My mother was straight out the south, so homemade cornbread was everyday and hotwarer or hush puppies when she fried fish. Thanksgiving and Christmas was homemade yeast dinner rolls.
I love collards more than anything! I have not seen ONE LEAF since I left the States. We don't even have kale where I live now, only cabbage.
