I have to mention that my grandmother was an extra in Back to the Future. She played one of the teachers in the high school scene. And my grandmother was an actual High School teacher at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, a city directly next to Whittier. And this was a wonderful little video that you guys put together. Thank you very much.
Amazing. I'd shown my fiance the Russo Brothers Marvel movies (and Community) and the Back to the Future series both in the past month, and she was nice enough to let me show off my behind the scenes knowledge of both my favorite childhood movie series and the modern movies that bring back the sense of wonder. Having you guys sit down and interview each other is unprecedented. Thank you so much for the advice, the personal anecdotes and the education!
To say I enjoyed this is an understatement. What a fantastic final class featuring Mr. Gale! Learned a lot from everyone involved and some fun, unknown, BTS information on Back to the Future. Thank you Joe and Anthony Russo, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely for this season. Looking forward to when classes resume at the #RussoBrosPizzaFilmSchool!
Yes, it's been educational. Now I feel extra pumped to go back to the computer and back to writing in just a moment. Page 101 is waiting... and she really doesn't like waiting... Thank you for all these great episodes. Hope you guys will keep doing this. Shout-out from Germany!
Great talk! Love this! This movie is so special for so many reasons...another cool one being it has 2 climaxes - (1) During Earth Angel when Marty is falling ill, George gets pushed away by that kid from The Burbs and then fades away into the dance crowd...Marty is on the verge of fading away himself (literally out of existence) as George returns and pushes that kid away, Earth Angel "The vision of your happiness, woah woah...." They KISS and Marty springs back up to life! Climax 2 of course is when Doc and Marty send him BTTF...Marty starts the car (finally) and is about to his 88mph right has Doc grabs the extension cord and plugs it in and BOOM! One of the best movies of all time...super exciting even on the 100th view...timeless.
This was great. I lost count of how many times Gale would drop a piece of knowledge or an anecdote that made me grin, and there were the Russo Brothers and M&M grinning right along with me. I grew up on the Back to the Future movies, so this was invaluable as a wannabe writer and film geek.
After you learn these structural tools and let them wash over you, dive into how scenes work, on their own, with each other and so on. After all, we don't want a span of ten pages between events to feel like we're just writing to the next thing. Every moment can by dynamic, it's a lot but it's doable. Every scene is a battle, the feelings of the wins and losses of each battle build over time to create an emotional journey in the mind and heart of the audience. Love you guys.
Thank you! This episode and the "Flash Gordon" episode have given me a lot of insight into act structure. It was also a joy to see how they responded to Bob's behind-the-scenes stories.
I love this episode. Bob Gale intuited story and helps me put storytelling in such a better way. I jotted down 12 notes from your conversation just from the last 20 minutes of this. I hope you can get Mel Brooks for season 2. He’s 94 but I think it’d be highly informative (especially the comedy angles). Edward Zwick is another request! Thanks for Pizza Film School!!
I really love the way that Bob Gale talks about not doing another BTTF movie, i completely agree with him. Hollywood, Universal or Disney would destroy the BTTF franchise with another movie. It's the perfect trilogy and don't touch it. thank you!
People wondering why this channel has low views. I personally think it's the name of the channel. AGBO is pretty ambiguous. This channel is definitely a hidden gem on TH-cam. I myself accidentally stumbled on this channel. I was watching Chris Evans and Paul Rudd interview each other and randomly decided I wanted to hear the Russo brothers talk about something. Searched "russo brothers" on TH-cam and found this channel. Totally unintentional.
I love these. I think one I properly digest all of what the group is saying, My ability to do a history lecture will improve tenfold. Also, this episode’s jump cuts were top notch!
I never saw Marty as poor. He wears designer clothes, has his own phone, has candy by his bedside, owns a guitar and payed for lessons..has two tvs?? I was always so confused why they only have one car.
Great Scott... I am so happy they did this movie. It's always an absolute pleasure revisiting the Godfather of time travelling movies, in my opinion. Although it's funny how the Russos refered to the time travelling logic here as bullshit in Endgame
Tony Stark : [discussing the "Time Heist"] I believe the most likely outcome will be our collective demise. Scott Lang : Not if we strictly follow the rules of time travel. That means no talking to our past selves, no betting on sporting events... Tony Stark : I'm gonna stop you right there, Scott. Are you seriously telling me that your plan to save the universe is based on "Back to the Future?" Scott Lang : [chuckles] ... No.
Absolutely loving the series gents. It has been so illuminating as I work on my own material. Not sure whether you plow the comments for fan ideas but, one film that has stuck with me, as much for its tight storytelling and clear characterization has been The Tailor of Panama (2001). Andrew Davies ... (screenplay) and John le Carré ... (screenplay) and John Boorman ... (screenplay). Any chance there is a discussion to be had about this feature?
Back to the future 4 CAN be done. Close the chapter on Doc and Marty while introducing new characters for a trilogy reboot. Logline: If you could tell your 10 year old self something, what would it be? Marty rebuilds the time machine in 2035 in order to find the 10 year old versions of our new characters, whose childhood science project created a dystopian future. The kids are forced to meet their older versions and figure out where it all went wrong. But, there's a twist, and Doc Brown is involved...
Russos trying to force their numbered, rigid structured version of the writing process on BttF while Gale just kind of goes... That's not how we did it...
Hey how about talking about either “The Master” or “Punch Drunk Love”, both are at the same time subversive and adherent to typical story structure. Or I dare you to do Anomilisa or Synecdoche New York.
Russos: It's interesting to think of how the three-act structure applies to Back to the Future. Bob Gale: We don't believe in the three-act structure. It's an outdated relic that we didn't apply to our screenplay. Russos: So, anyway, it's interesting how the third section of the first act starts on page 17...
I’ll have to disagree with Bob that Marty doesn’t change. I’d say he has some new perspective thanks to the journey he goes on and had more confidence/believed in himself more.
I'm gonna need you guys to do Marvel zoom reunion with Kevin Feige and all of the Phase One directors Jon Favreau, Louis leterrier, Joe Johnston, and Joss Whedon With Christoher Markus and Stephen Mcfeely involved in it as well, If only so we could hear our favorites ask each other questions and share experiences from their respective films, from setting the tone and being the catalyst of the entire thing. I don't know If you guys read comments on here or not, but I swear if you can do that, Man that would be great.
These videos are great. I would love to see a visual graph for the acts, inciting incident, etc drawn out as you break it down. Just for a visual reference. Tested just posted a video on how to annotate live videos: th-cam.com/video/ALesylse5a0/w-d-xo.html

That's awesome to know!

These shows are my new favourite thing on TH-cam. These and the Ryan George pitch meetings.
yeah yeah yeah
Ryan George is TIGHT
Thank you for a great season.
I hope there is a season 2 in the future, or futures.
This is THE film that captured my entire imagination as a kid and made me want to make movies!!
I just stumbled upon this series. Very interesting conversation talking about a classic.
"You don't kill a dog unless it's John Wick..." Brilliant.
I could listen to him all day long, my wheels just keep spinning!!!

IMO’s pizza! I never would’ve expected a St. Louis classic to show up on pizza film school. Love from St. Louis.
HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST CHANNELS ON TH-cam
Why doesn’t this channel have more views
It's also pretty in-depth, which many people aren't interested in. I love these videos though. I could watch a hundred more.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
This series was such amazing stuff. Please keep these coming!
Great episode to finish the season. Thank you Bob Gale, Markus & McFeely and Russo Bros. for doing this.

Haha I love the film connections with Endgame and Back to the future!
Time just flies by listening to these, its so fascinating. Thank you guys for us.
This is heavy! I could have watched this for another two hours. Thanks guys!
Thank you! This episode and the "Flash Gordon" episode have given me a lot of insight into act structure. It was also a joy to see how they responded to Bob's behind-the-scenes stories.

Thanks for Pizza Film School!!
This was fantastic. I’m looking forward to more.
Epic. Thank you for this!
Thanks for this show. I am a fan of you Risso Brothers and this film. I am also a filmmaker from Cleveland Ohio.
"Great Scott!" It's awesome to find out so much about our unique and talenred screenwriter and screenwriting in general. Stay safe and keep it up!
Lots of great advice about screenwriting in this episode, thank you!
Thank you for doing this, everybody. As enjoyable as it is edifying!
LOVED the series! Hoping there's a Season 2!!! :)
Still waiting.

Thank you fellas. I LOVE this.
"Listen.. I gotta go, but ah, I just wanted you to know it's been educational." -Marty Mcfly👏👏👏 well said. Most excellent job everybody!
This is absolutely awesome!
Thanks for showing us the ropes Russo brothers!
Best episode yet!
This was fantastic. I'm glad Scott Adkins mentioned this show in the Art of Action.
Best channel on TH-cam. Another great episode!
This was very entertaining. Thank you very much.

Its a really bad time to be "pizza" anything.
Oh they need to make this for parts II and III. There's so much good stuff here.
This just got posted after me and my younger brother just got done watching this movie earlier today.
Weirdly, I also watched this last night.
I love these. I think one I properly digest all of what the group is saying, My ability to do a history lecture will improve tenfold.
Also, this episode’s jump cuts were top notch!
This was such a gem
Thanks, Joe! Thanks, Anthony! Thanks, Markus! Thanks, McFeely! Thanks, Bob! #AGBO #RussoBrosPizzaFilmSchool #BackToTheFuture
Best one yet and the most inspiring.
I never saw Marty as poor.
He wears designer clothes, has his own phone, has candy by his bedside, owns a guitar and payed for lessons..has two tvs??
I was always so confused why they only have one car.
One of my fav movies of all time! :D
I like the idea of Doc going through time and saving Marty every time he dies.
Love this!

Video shows how much I knew about Back to the Future.
If this existed in 2006 I wouldn’t have gone into debt for film school lol. Great work from real artists.
the Russo, Markus&Mcfeely are my hero's
Last episode of the season?! 😭 i want these to go on forever!
Will there be the possibility of having your program, with Spanish subtitles?
22:07; you see him pay off the cop in the deleted scenes.
Is another video coming out soon?
I wouldn't nor do I want it to happen but If they "did" make a BTTF reboot, These would be the best people for the job.
It is fascinating how the perfect movie could have been terrible under different circumstances.
F**king brilliant.
Please do Being John Malkovich next season! Focusing on story structure and crafting something Meta (Like their work on Community)
BETTER THAN ALMOST ANY COLLEGE COURSE
Yep. I’ve already learned more about screenwriting watching these videos than I ever would in a screenwriting class.
Same thing as BTTF Bonus Content and Featurette but in LQ
Russos trying to force their numbered, rigid structured version of the writing process on BttF while Gale just kind of goes... That's not how we did it...
I never doc Brown paid off the car. I always thought he had a permit.
Hey how about talking about either “The Master” or “Punch Drunk Love”, both are at the same time subversive and adherent to typical story structure. Or I dare you to do Anomilisa or Synecdoche New York.
Gale didn't seem thrilled with applying his movie to the three act structure
Russos: It's interesting to think of how the three-act structure applies to Back to the Future.
Bob Gale: We don't believe in the three-act structure. It's an outdated relic that we didn't apply to our screenplay.
Russos: So, anyway, it's interesting how the third section of the first act starts on page 17...
Overdue, fellas
F! This is so informative and also blowing my mind about Back to the Future. The movies are perfectly crafted by a great writer!
I always understood that Emmett Brown was paying off the policeman
The knowledge of the lightning hitting the clock also establishes the ticking clock. Please do JAWS!!!
Please do Taxi Driver with Paul Schrader next.
Tmw you realize bttf series is basically a 1960s tv show
I’ll have to disagree with Bob that Marty doesn’t change. I’d say he has some new perspective thanks to the journey he goes on and had more confidence/believed in himself more.
For Season #2, I suggest "Conan" by John Milius.
John wrote some of the iconic stuff in Dirty Harry and the Indianapolis speech in Jaws, I believe.
The Cohen brothers need to make a Marvel movie
Please do Lord of the Rings with Peter Jackson.
While you’re at it: Do ‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’ with Lawrence Kasdan.
So Back to the Future was not a bunch of bullshit after all ;)
Rejections often lead to bring revolutions, all depends how bad one wants the function.
Pete's Pizza = Chicago's best!
IMO’s!
Paul, you watching this?
yes
Fascinating!
Get George Lucas 😁
shout out to minnmax
I think they'd be more entertaining if it was done on a set. Then maybe they'd get more views.
"So back to the future is a bunch of bullshit"
.
Pizza film school huh? Funny that pizza is the focus...pedo much?
This idiotic opening noise should be removed
