Now, I'm realising that in Infinity War, Thor's arc resembles Luke Skywalker's arc in The Empire Strikes Back. In the first act, he gets beaten by a giant monster, then gets saved by Han Solo ( Star Lord ), then he goes on a personal journey to Degobah ( Niðavellir ) to learn the skills/ get weapon from a dwarf character, accompanied by R2D2 ( Rocket & Groot), then returns to fight the villain in the third act and loses, ending with a Cliff hanger

At around the 35 minute mark when Mark is talking about having to hold the lightsabre with two hands - For me, the sabre fight at the End of Empire is the best in the series. I’ve always LOVED that Luke has to hold the sabre with two hands while Vader just swipes him away with one. It’s terrifying!

I agree to me this one is the best, with jedi second close, I love the bare figth, no unnecessary twirling we see in the prequels, the lighting, set, tone. Just perfect. The only other one I feel as strongly is Vader’s hallway massacre in rogue one, his moves perfectly match the style in empire

I saw Empire in the theatres when it came out when I was 9 years old. The three year gap between that ending and Jedi was absolutely agonizing.. in all the years since then, I'd never had another movie experience like hat until Avengers Infinity War. So having all these guys talk movies together is amazing.

16:14 - Hey Joe Russo, about the Leia: I love you and Han: I know.
In a 2010 Vanityfair interview, Irvin Kershner revealed more to this line, and the fact that George Lucas did not like it.
Question: One of the biggest surprises in the book is that, in 1980, you had to convince interviewers you were not just following George’s direction. Obviously no one thinks that today. What was the biggest argument you and George had over a particular scene?
Irvin Kershner: There was really only one disagreement. It was the Carbon Freeze scene when Princess Leia says, “I love you.” Han Solo’s response in the script was, “I love you, too.” I shot the line and it just didn’t seem right for the character of Han Solo. So we worked on the scene on the set. We kept trying different things and couldn’t get the right line. We were into the lunch break and I said to Harrison try it again and just do whatever comes to mind. That is when Harrison said the line, “I know.” After the take, I said to my assistant director, David Tomblin, “It’s a wrap.” David looked at me in disbelief and said something like, “Hold on, we just went to overtime. You’re not happy with that, are you?” And I said, yes, it’s the perfect Han Solo remark, and so we went to lunch.
George saw the first cut and said, “Wait a minute, wait a minute. That’s not the line in the script.” I said ““I love you, too’ was not Han Solo.” Han Solo was a rebel. George felt that the audience would laugh. And I said, that’s wonderful, he is probably going to his death for all they know. We sat in the room and he thought about it. He then asked me, “Did you shoot the line in the script?” I said yes. So we agreed that we would do two preview screenings once the film was cut and set to music with the line in and then with the line out. At the first preview in San Francisco, the house broke up after Han Solo said I know. When the film was over, people came up and said that is the most wonderful line and it worked. So George decided not to have the second screening.
George was the best producer I ever worked with. He left me alone and only came to England a few times. I told George at one point that I was behind schedule, not that it was anyone’s fault, but because it was so complex. Many of the special effects that were done on set often did not work at all. His answer was, “Keep doing what you are doing. Just keep shooting.” This was the greatest thing for a director to hear from a producer.

In a 1978 British TV Interview Alec Guinness said that when he first received the script for Star Wars what drew his attention was "written by George Lucas". He said he knew he'd made American Graffiti and so anything by him would be interesting and worth reading. Finally confirmed they split the middle into four sequences! Always wanted to ask!
Can the russo brothers please do an episode breaking down their avenger film plot structures so I can know for sure?
I knew based on their commentaries that they used Midpoints, but because I analysed the avengers (including Civil War) films as four acts and they kept referring to them as 3 acts, i was never sure. But essentially its the same, just that the middle act is split by the midpoint (so commonly referred to as act 2A and 2B i just refer to as acts 2 and 3) and both acts are again split by sequencing much like the Inciting Incident seperates the ordinary world and key decision / crossing the threshold (i.e. in Civil War, the ordinary world is Cap and Tony dealing with the perils of collatoral damage, and the Inciting Incident introduces the Accords, seperating the sections about living consequence free to the sections where Tony is guilt ridden and Cap is deciding whether to sign them, until Cap finally decides not to sign - end of act one. I THINK).

Also, Mark didn't realize that Vader wasn't using two hands at the beginning of the fight. He didn't take Luke seriously and was just testing Lukes abilities. That changes at some point and he goes all in. You can see how he positions his SECOND hand on the hilt because he wanted to break Lukes resistance. You can see it. The saber fights in "Empire" and "Jedi" seem very emotional. It seems like something was at stake. The prequel fights were like a ballet. Harmless.

I just love to think Mark Hamill finds any reason he can to dive into a Harrison Ford impression.

The one film that changed my life forever! "Star Wars - A New Hope!" I was a 5 year old starry eyed boy growing up on an Air Force Base in Austin...I bugged my late Dad Bob to take me to see Star Wars, that I saw a trailer on tv. He took me in his blue Volkswagon Beetle to a local drive-in. I fell in love with film, and I thought I had a "vision" that I wanted to make my own films. But, I didn't know how I would do that.....Until I found out, years later...I could WRITE! Now, I'm an up and coming Screenwriter
in Boston...I have two Screenplays in the works at the moment. Google : markusmclaughlin dot net! :D

Great video! Thanks for doing those. But why not just use a structure with 5 acts like Shakespeare did?

I feel so much like Mark Hamill has raised me right.
All the kids at school were Han Solo this and that. I am always a Luke fan. I feel like I could bring my toys out and waste hours.

Mark Hamill’s life must be so weird. He has to answer the same questions to thousands of people over the years.

Indeed, this would (fairly) irk most people (See: Harrison Ford :P) but he has such a passion for both Star Wars and the fans that he seems to genuinely love recounting and regaling these stories to people, the mans a gem:)
