- In this fast-paced world, rife with distractions, there's an opportunity for religious young people to "establish a lasting spiritual foundation" for their lives.
An eight-week monastic internship is available to 18 to 25-year-olds at Quarr Abbey, a Catholic Benedictine Monastery on the Isle of Wight.
Josh Caminiti, a 23-year-old from Canada, who is about to start a new job as a business consultant in London, took part in the programme and told the BBC about his experience.

Monastic and religious life is a calling for many. It is true that there are some who are evil but many are good. No matter which religion it is, there will be bad apples in there.

So a monk cannot have a smartphone or a laptop in his room...That is a lot to sacrifice to lead non-materialistic life.
They use a laptop to type up documents. There was a time less that 40 years ago in which there was no internet and no mobile telephones. Monks don't use these unless its necessary. I know in the library there is usually internet access with a filter. Obviously email is used for communication. They also have a community website and community facebook with a webmaster.
