I even had this happen when I said I enjoyed Black Ops 2 Zombies (not a bad game btw) over Black Ops 3 Zombies (again, not bad, just that I don't like the direction Blundell went with it), and the person I was talking to proceeds to use the "muh modding" argument as if that affects the quality of what the devs put in the game
("muh modding" was used to show BO3's leverage over BO2 even though only PC players can use that feature anyway)

I keep saying this and I'm glad there's people that think the same way.
Mods are confounding variables that need to be controlled in conversations like this. If Sonic Adventure gets improved with a mod for comparison's sake, then Mario 64 needs to get the same amount of improvement with a mod. You get to the same endpoint no matter what.

I remember my first playthrough got a game breaking glitch at the point when you're supposed to travel back in time with the Elder Scroll to see the ancient nords banish Alduin, they just say "here he comes" but he never shows up and the scene just went on forever in awkward silence....😂

Ive been trying to 100% Skyrim but due to my having Anniversary edition, I keep getting killed by TELEKINESIS ARROWS! They’re too OP! (I play on Adept btw)
I feel the same about minecraft. I played minecraft when it first came out like 10 years ago... Now you need to mod minecraft after about 20+ hrs to continue to get an interesting experience. I say this, yet I still prefer the feeling of vanilla minecraft. I go back maybe once or twice a year to play with some sort of theme or challenge in mind for a vanilla world. Best way to play imo

I'm glad I'm not alone on this. I love learning to mod on games I enjoy such as DB Xenoverse 2, Saints Row 2, Skyrim, etc. But I hate it when people would use modding as a copout to justify purchasing or even spend time on certain titles. If i have to pay to larp as a part time game developer to make a game better, then why bother? At this point, I should be an indie dev. At least I can properly monetize it. Plus theres other issues I can go on, but that's for another day.
The Dreamcast conversion mod/pack is to make Sonic Adventure play and look like the original version of the game I agree that most games just mod it is a dumb argument but not Sonic Adventure considering the PC port is a port of a port so if you're going to actually compare Sonic Adventure to Mario 64 compare the original version or use the Dreamcast conversion mod which makes it to be the original version
Modding can make any game good. But the real problem is games you CANT play without modding. And theyre still sold for money.
I don't think it's fair to compare two very different games, just because both games are platformers doesn't make them similar enough to compare, people can enjoy both games for very different reasons. as where sonic is a somewhat linear level, yet speedy action adventure gameplay where story is a little more of the focus where as mario is a slower, more open collectathon where gameplay is the main attraction. Just as people will get mods to try to make sonic adventure better, people will also do the same for mario 64. plus it's not like the presentation for mario 64 was good either, the models are low poly, textures pixelated, voice acting and timing are delivered weirdly sometimes, but these games were released in the 90s as their first ever attempt at a 3d game. and imo both games did really good for their first attempt as they were both revolutionary in their respective specialties.
I will agree the sentiment of downloading mods to make a game better isn't foolproof, it isn't fair to ignore the fact people also say the same for sm64 too. not to mention what the team making sonic adventure was trying to do with what they had at the time, succeeded at, and worked on in future entries.

This is like the difference between Star Wars Battlefront 2 made in 2005, to E A's Battlefront 2. People said, "Just mod it." with the new one, but what people forget is while mods are amazing on the original 2005 and keep the game popular even today like with the Battlefront 3 legacy mod, the vanilla game was already epic. Whereas E A's was a lootbox filled mess and was only playable after all the various patches and updates, and even then, it was hardly a balanced game.
To say nothing of the Aspyr re-release of the classics, which somehow managed to turn a playable classic game into a buggy mess....like seriously, how do you screw up that bad?

Modding the game indeed fixes issues, but keep in mind that it’s not the publisher or team behind the game.
I wished I can reach Johnny Yong Bosch's range in VA work. I met him at Anime Expo 2011. Had a lot of fun and had him autograph a work of mine. It was the best day of my life and life would never get better as sad and depressing to say it.

This has always been my argument against Skyrim. Without mods Skyrim is a shallow game with mid-to-low tier writing, weak combat that has no impact, and is so bug laden that a literal bug (a bee) shot you into the stratosphere when you started the game.

I think the mod was mentioned in this instance was because the port was bad but you already said you played the dreamcast version
He complains solely on the bugs and glitches that were Port specific it proves he didnt play dreamcast. Its a Common attack vector of SA1 use the shitty ports to say the game is bad.
Used to love Fallout, now I hate it. I realized bethesda made 4 shit on purpose so everyone would mod it forever. They literally sell you broken games and YOU spend WEEKS to fix it. Just reminded by it by the title and subject.
I can still play 1 and 2 and have no bugs. Just sick of fixing games myself for hours only to find content that got fucked up halfway through.
Yeah, 4 is literally garbage without mods. I love the irony that mods bringing New Vegas stuff into the game were some of the most popular. Bethesda must have been annoyed at that 😂

That's even worse with Bethesda games. They're a prime example of devs effectively being lazy with the belief the modding community will just plug the leaking holes on their products. Dragons flying backwards might be funny the first 2 or 3 times, but after a while, those bugs and glitches aren't funny anymore. And the main issue with unofficial patches is that while it fixes the gamebreaking stuff, it might also break or alter things to the modder's own discretion.
Sonic Adventure had good parts, but honestly playing it again recently after beating the Sonic and Tails sections I kind of lost interest. Amy and Gamma are okay, I have NEVER liked the treasure hunting parts of Knuckles and I can only be happy that Big goes by fast.

I've never played starfield, but I wouldn't be surprised if people try do defend it with the Mod argument.

Mario 64 doesnt need quality of life improvements (not saying its perfect. Galaxy 2 fixes a lot of the issues i had with 64) because it was great enough to be enjoyed.

I have this problem with Minecraft fans, they just say "oh modding fix the game issues" ok? That doesnt change that the game has issues, and devs are too lazy to work on them
Also, sometimes mods ruin games, for example, command and conquer generals, is a strategy game with 3 teams, each team has features that other team dont have, which make each team unique and different to play with, then mods come, and give each team almost the same abilities, andits not one mod, many mods does the same thing, thats why vanilla is much better than mods

0:11 I’ve always been more of a Sonic guy, but I’m willing to admit that even though Sa1 is a good game, it’s a bit more janky than Mario 64. Mario 64 is a simple, straightforward, and fun experience, while Sa1 despite its good gameplay and ideas, somewhat feels like Sonic team was just trying to include as many styles as possible instead trying to fully flesh out Sonic’s gameplay. That’s probably just me being biased though. The only part of Sa1 that I really like is Sonic’s gameplay, the other characters are fine, even though I think they could’ve been handled better.
Half life 2 was always bad.
Garry's Mod is great but it cant undo the fact that garry's mod needed to exist BECAUSE half life 2 was bad.
If someone in any way shape or form suggests a mod gives "quality of life improvements" or any other form of Improvement graphical or otherwise, its tacit admittance that the original work was flawed in such a way that these thesean planks needed to be replaced.
If they say "this mod fixes this issues" then they agree that it's a problem! I'm not trying to pay money for a game that requires external mods to make good.

I think mods should'nt be required but for something like the dreamcast conversion mod for sonic adventure its basically the same game but how it was originally intended, and it does improve even from the og game, plus for stuff like big you can basically just get one single mod for that to be able to catch froggy and that's literally it
There's a video of Resident Evil 4 welcome to hell mode. There are a lot of changes in the game, like in the village. There's more chainsaw guy's the zombies are gone it's actually funny, same bosses, though. 💯😂
Kinda ironic since I basically dont want to play mario 64 for its flaws that the ds version midigates somewhat (i will abuse Luigi's backflip glide, idgaf, rainbow ride is the worst sky level I ever played in a game) but even then later mario games made some tweaks with air movement options that I feel 64 badly needs.
And while it does have its issues, The Sonic adventure games I can still enjoy vanilla even with all the improvements mods can do. sonic team has a bad habit of mapping conflicting moves to one button, bounce into a pit when trying to ring dash or attack chao when trying to pick em up? Thats the main reason I use mods for sa2, I can still play without that mod just fine but it is a nice thing to have I will admit. Otherwise I just be like throwing in character skins for fun

Of course playing games with cool mods to your personal preference and experiencing it with friends is fun but, if the game NEEDS it, its bad. Because its not the game thats good, its the friends and mods that are fun and if the game isnt good without it, its not good.

This. This is exactly why I have been hesitant to even try and mod Starfield. I'll gladly mod Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind forever because I enjoy those games so much, flaws and all. But Starfield? Even Fallout 4? Fallout 4 was okay for me, until Bethesda ruined it with their "next-gen" update, but Starfield? I don't even know if I want to attempt that. I already didn't enjoy the original game, so what difference would modding it make? And those are supposed to be easy games to mod!

I've heard it said that Starfield is literally unplayable without mods. Then again, I'm not surprised. Bethesda refuses to make or utilize a new engine and is still using the same one from Fallout 3, just jazzed up a little. I saw a meme of them patching a hole in an antique car engine with duct tape to reference how they make their games 😂
@@General_Kenobi_212 It's for that reason why my hype for TES 6 has died down significantly. Not only is the engine so outdated, but also one of Bethesda's former devs was saying "Don't get your hopes up, it's not Skyrim 2. I mean, it's still gonna be a great game, but it's not the same". Obviously it's not gonna be a Skyrim 2, but that message is a significant lack of confidence coming from them.

I think its the same with Cyberpunk 2077 . The game isnt bad because of the vugs and technical problems . Its designed to be bad and no matter how many updates , mods and changes it needed , it is still a bad game from design.
Modding the game to be better isnt an argument for the game but even against the game which means often that the game was actually bad and needs only mods to be good .
Thats why skyrim is extremly mediocre alone . Successfull but mediocre beyond any pain-tolerance whatsoever.

I am not sure about that. I mean, I am a Mario fan, but never like Mario 64 and Sunshine. 64's controls made him feel even and didn't turn on a dim, he work do a walk around when try to make go back whick leads to a lot game overs and it was very unfun, especially to 100%, Sunshine had better controls but it was the worst collectioning type game I have played around that time. 64 just didn't hold a candle to better 3D platformers around the time, like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Conker, Banjo-Kazooie, Rayman 2, MegaMan Legends (I know its not a platformer but still a great 3D game) and Sonic Adventure. Mario just had a rocky start in 3D, to me Mario Galaxy will be always first good 3D Mario. Galaxy is when 3D Mario finally gotten good, a long with Galaxy 2, 3D World, Bowser's Fur and Odyssey

The sonic levels are just ok to me. But that's just what 1/3 of the game. The rest of the game ranges from bland to bad. So the game as a whole falls flat. The good can only carry the bad so far.
@@ChitinChazz I dont think any part of the game is bad, just bland (talking about dreamcast version rn). The game is overall pretty easy so i didnt get frustrated at all but there were some moments where i was just bored. The sonic and knuckles campaigns were the best ones. I dont rlly get the mario 64 comparison like ik it was a twitter sonic cope thing but like they are so different. Mario 64 is a way more consistent game that has the advantage of its mission based structure in order to reuse the same map 8 times while sonic need a new obstacle course for every level. The unfortunate thing about alot of sonic games is that they like to fill them with stuff that isnt the core sonic gameplay to pad out the games cuz most of them are like an hour without that stuff. If you want to really play an entire sonic game that stays consistent then you should prolly play heroes, colors or generations.
Also a big reason why people say to play modded adventure 1 is because theres no definitive version. Dreamcast runs at 30fps while DX and all subsequent ports are 60fps but add a buttload of glitches that werent there originally and the games ambient lighting is messed up. Its a shame that the game needs to be retained by fans but it seems sega doesnt care about it anymore.
Sounds like you just didn't like it. No harm in that. But if you went on some rant about why it's a bad game then maybe that was your mistake. The steam version is known to be the worst version and one that came out years after the port that came out years after the game. The controls are worse due to something to do with the gamecube, same with the lighting. This would explain why so many insist you play the modded version. But you are right modding a game does not change the issues in the base game. It's just in this rare case the 'base' game you played wasn't the base game. It was a butchered port of a butchered port. So saying Sonic Adventure is a bad game would be contentious, aside from fanboyisms.
I played the original Dreamcast version too, and I still didn't enjoy it. I just don't think SA1 is a good game, and I doubt adding a few mods will change my opinion.

The mods are litterally undoing the shit DX added.... Sounds more like the old ship of thesius was better than this NEW one they gave us full of holes.
I think another reason people like Super Mario 64 more than Sonic adventure is that one is a lot simpler to get into. When I pick a level in Mario 64 the objective is told to me right away, Sonic adventure on the other hand had me confused enough that I had to put it down.
despite the fact that the name of some stars could also be difficult to understand for a newcomer, as for sonic adventure. the objective of a level is always told to you directly. reach the end of the level, beat sonic in a race, find the 3 emerald shards, escape the robot chasin you (another reach the end of the level), reach the end of a level but shoot enemies to keep your timer from running out and fishing. 6 objectives for 6 characters who play different and who's levels are designed for it. as for mario 64, since it is more exploration based, the name of the stars are also a little vague as to encourage exploration. Now I will admit the hub worlds in sonic adventure are also pretty confusing, but that isn't the point you brought up.

I played the dreamcast version too. I think sa1 is lazy, poorly made, and the game progressively gets worse and worse as it goes on; regardless of if I played the dreamcast or steam DX versions.
Modding a game requires you to buy a bad game. The devs have no reason to change if you give them money.

I say the modding argument works when there's a version of the game that is better on a different platform and the PC mods just fix issues on the PC port that should've been fixed by the devs. Bad port =/= bad game imo.

What if bro played on a console and couldn’t mod the game at all meaning the only experience he was stuck with was the base game from its original release.

Sonic Adventure sucks ass😂 compared to Mario 64
