San Ysidro - Sentri Global Entry Driving Directions - Most Reliable Route

  • The route we depict here www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mi... and in the video is a longer way to get to the entrance of the SENTRI lanes. We feel it should be 100% reliable even in times when the border wait is longest such as at the end of a long weekend, or during the busy holiday season.
We've also included a shorter route to the San Ysidro SENTRI, that is not shown in the video: www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mi... Please be advised that if you attempt to take this shorter route when there are longer wait times, you may be redirected by traffic officers to get the back of the line. This can be very confusing for a lot of border crossers, which is why we have opted to show the longer route depicted in the video.
Important note: DO NOT RELY ON GOOGLE/WAZE/APPLE NAVIGATION. It is often inaccurate and will take you to the wrong lane
And if you are not yet a member of the SENTRI/Global Entry program to enjoy shorter border waits, you should start the process now: ttp.dhs.gov/. For more information on the different border lane types and what documents are necessary, visit www.bajabound.com/before/retu...
We also highly recommend using Baja Bound insurance when traveling to Mexico www.bajabound.com/

Wanted to chime in and thank you for this. Watched the video a few times before my trip, had it loaded up and ready with my passenger, and found the route no problem.
It's worth noting that the overpass at 1:58 is one of several that look similar and blockage from trees can be an issue (especially the Caffeño sign). The VIA Corporativo building is a GREAT landmark.

The road past the Padre Kino roundabout/statue is slightly different now, but still an excellent video and it will get you there, just don't be in the far left lane after that roundabout on Padre Kino.

I have lived in Playas now for a year. I sure wish you posted this back then. It would have saved me much stress and embarrassment the two times I ended up going the wrong way on a one way street. This is the route that I have eventually settled on months after moving here. This should be very useful for all new Sentri users.

Thank you soooooo much for this video. We've had global entry for a couple of years now, but seemed to only make it once to the Sentri crossing with ease since a lot of the crossing signs are spray painted ( makes me seem that this has been done on purpose for people to direct visitors for money, which we have done before, or to get bribes from cops which has been stated). We should have no problem crossing now! 🤗

First time I ever went to Mexico was several weeks ago, at this crossing. I NEVER want to go back, the roads in Tijuana are absolutely crazy and very poorly marked. My only saving grace was a friendly taxi driver that led me through the maze. Very nice guy.

I just used your video yesterday. You put an fantastic effort in this video and i highly appreciate this! However, being 2 people in the car watching this video upfront and during driving made us pass the right exit after the coffee sign. At multiple spots we were also insecure about the turns. Perhaps an oedometer count would help. We slowed down the video multiple times to not pass the turns. However that point it isn't a fluid guide no more and in between you accelerated the video. It all confused a little bit, even you did so great. 2nd attempt i helped and we found it. Kindly thank you!!!

With the construction on the Via Internacional for the new highway, does it affect these directions? I got lost last time, to ultimately get pulled over and had to pay cops to let me go!

I'm likely going to Mexico for the first time in years as I haven't gone since COVID. Nice to see it's still the same complete nightmare I remember it to be. That roundabout and exit is one of the most terrifying things ever in traffic. And the end that 4 way intersection noone stops at. Complete animals driving in TJ

I didnt want to wait a year for my daughters sentri appt so i looked at neighboring cities who offered appointments sooner than in san diego (very busy office!) we ended up making a trip out to phoenix and got it done in 3-4 months as opposed to a year out

Once you’re in the website make sure you select the office in San Diego and keep refreshing. Usually between 10am and 12 pm people will cancel. I was able to get an appointment the very next day doing this.

We got pulled over going on 2nd round about and the police were going to give me a ticket and impound my car. Then he came back asked for money. Ugh. I gave him $30 bucks and let me go. Is there a way to report this corruption?

Made a wrong turn entering the Sentri lane. Was pulled over by a Mexican traffic cop on Padre Kino, then the extortion began. Was told that I was in violation of Sentri lane and would have to go in front of a judge with the following penalties. A fine of $600, possible loss of my car. I said there's roundabout 200 feet ahead that would allow me to exit the Sentri Lane but the cop said that was not possible and I was in serious trouble and I would have to follow a police car and stand before a judge. After sitting in my car for a short time the cop comes to the window and says the whole thing can be forgotten if I paid him the $600 dollars. I said I didn’t have $600 so he came to the passenger window and demanded $400 which I did have. All of the threats and negotiations were pre written on his phone in English which he kept showing me. He said don't show the money above the window but put it on the passenger seat. He quickly took the money stuffed it in his pocket handed me my license and quickly walked away to extort the next driver.
